For All the Germaphobs Out There

I know many of you take a lysol spray to your hotel rooms before you settle in, and I plan to do the same, but what about the beds? Is there anything out there I can spray on sheets and pillow cases?

Thanks

I spray the pillows and sheets with lysol. We also bring pillows from home and our favorite blankets.

You can buy the sanigaurd online at a few select sites still I believe. Lots of schools/universities use to combat MRSA and such. It is EPA approved for use on fabrics also.

Just ask for it when you book your room and explain why. I have severe allergies and a immune disease so must be very careful. Special needs can take care of this for you.

We request all linen changed, but not until we arrive in the room - we call housekeeping, explain the need and wait there until housekeeping changes the bedding - this way I know it's really fresh and completely changed.

I've not taken Lysol in checked luggage because did not think aerosols are allowed due to the flammable issue...but I really like the idea of the Clorox Anywhere! I usually go over the room with lysol spray (it is awful) and lysol wipes, but the spray requires being able to get to a store, which is not always possible, so the Clorox Anyway is the answer..and it's not an aerosol!! :cool1:
If you can't take aerosol I should be in serious trouble because I take my hairspray EVERYWHERE! :lmao:

My son is extemely allergic to dustmites. When we arrived, after 9 pm, we called housekeeping and asked for new bedding. They were happy to help and of course I gave them 5.00 for their trouble. I also asked for more towels and toiletries at the time. It was fabulous!!:cloud9:

Well I usually request that there are no comforters on the bed when I check in. I deal with health issues so I have to be extreme but frankly I am a germaphobe anyway!

Here are some tips. Ask to have the comforters removed before your arrival. Pick up a couple flat sheets at walmart ( a twin flat sheet is fine even on a double its big enough) . They are like 3.00. Throw those over the existing sheets on the bed.

I buy space bags ( most stores sell these now) and pack a few blankets in one and suck all the air out so it wont take up any room. You could do this with pillows as well if you wanted. They puff right back up when you unseal the baq.

If you have any allergies I noticed on Disney site the other day that you can request a VIP cleaning. I think this is great for people with severe situations.

I also like clorex anywhere spray because it disinfects safely without a lot of chemicals . You can use it next to food even. And the smell of lysol gets to me after a while. This has no odor.

I always say that the people that get a room after me should thank me! lol By the time they check in I have throughly scrubbed the room !

So, Disney is admitting they don't clean the room as well as possible between "ordinary" guests? :confused3 VIPs get really clean rooms, the rest of us shlubs get an sorta clean room?

I ALWAYS spray lysol everywhere. The first time I went on vacation when my kids where little, my DD got plantars warts. So I spray the bathrooms run hot water in the tubs ,showers and sinks you name it I spray it. If I could go to the pool areas and spray there I would. Other than that I bring all of our own comforters but I still sleeping on there sheets. EEk! Always wash the coffee mugsif you use. them.

you are misunderstanding the difference between cleaning for the average person and cleaning for those with immunity deficiencies. Be glad you don't have to know about such things.

Not a germaphobe, but have to ask, isn't there a chance that such a disinfectant bomb could set of the smoke alarm/sprinklers, particularly in the close quarters of a hotel room? Just curious.

The container says that one of the recommended uses is for a hotel room. :confused3

This is a very interesting topic and I can see why people would like to stay in a hotel room that is clean. My room at CSR was very clean and I didn't do a thing except remove the bedspreads. No disrespect intended to anyone with health issues, but aren't the parks 100 times grosser than any hotel room? When I think of the germs on the rides, handrails, benches, restaurant tables, buffet utensils, etc., well, I just try not to think about! I guess that's what Purell is for, but you can't Purell your hands, arms, legs, every time you come in contact with something. I would think Disney would be a dangerous place for someone with immune deficiencies.

Oh, what is this bomb spray? I really need it. I bring Clorox wipes to do the bathroom surfaces each day, but the comforters gross me out. I always ask for a complete change of bedding when I check in ( but you just never know, if you know what I mean)! The hardest thing for me is the fact that my DH is not only not a germphobe, but, frankly, a slob! He'd lick the floor if I dared him to.
Lucy's Mom

I got a good laugh at your post. My family of 3 (DH, DS & me) are so not germaphobes either so I get a chuckle at those who are. My parents were never the type to tell you to wash your hands after you use the bathroom or before you eat dinner (unless of course your hands were REALLY dirty).

I think not being germaphobes has really helped us. The reason I say this is because we are allowing our immune system to do what it should. I know my immune system can't defend everything or I wouldn't get a cold every year. It's actually funny because I get a cold 2x's a year at about the same time (Spring & Fall). I just deal. Our DS is 4 and he's never had the flu, had a cold or 2 and 2 ear infections. My friends ask me how he's never sick. I just say I let his immune system work instead of using every antibacterial device known to man. You hear all the time that viruses and bacteria are mutating to become resistant to anti-bacterial stuff.

Yes, I do wash my hands with soap while I'm preparing food to avoid cross-contamination especially with meat. But a lot of times I just rinse my hands off and not use soap.

I keep my house clean but I don't use Febreeze or Lysol and spray everything down.

And I would probably lick the floor too if you dared me but I'd only do it for a minimum of $50. :rotfl2:

So, about this VIP cleaning. How do you know that they even did it?

kinda off topic..... does anyone know if the saniguard will also kill some bugs, I am really afraid of bringing home bed bugs as I have heard of disney having problems with these. I do have a VIP cleaning scheduled because I have a severely asthmatic child that uses a nebulizer. He too is very allergic to dust mites,

Thanks......

There is a big difference between being a germaphope and using good personal hygiene.I can't imagine a child not being taught to wash his or her hands after using the bathroom.:confused3 One of the reasons that so many people are concerned about disinfection is because of people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. I am aware that the overuse of anti-bacterials is counterproductive and I prefer using plain soap and water when available. I actually only catch a cold every few years and, considering the conditions under which I work, I think that speaks to my very effective immune system.

How do you pack them pack up again????

So, everyone who thinks they are sanitizing their rooms, have you ever gotten sick from a hotel room? Not likely. More likely from being around people. I have NEVER gotten sick on a trip, ever. My DH travels at least once per month and stays in hotels and also never gets sick. We have, however, caught things from our kids (when they were in school) and at work-which is where most people get exposed to illnesses. Also, most illness you have absolutely no control over because they are spread by just being around other people. I agree with the poster who said they let their kids immune systems work. It's what we did also. You build an immune system by being exposed to germs, not trying to kill them all. My kids were rarely sick growing up and when they were it was something that everyone caught or an occasional ear infection before age 5. They are now adults and if they miss one day a year of work or school due to illness it's a lot. I'm the same way, as is DH. I have over 7 weeks of sick leave saved up and I have taken one day in the last year and I wasn't really sick, I just needed to take a day off. I never wiped down hotel rooms, restaurant tables or anything else and we are all very healthy. Your immune system works best when you allow some germs in. There's a lot of paranoia. Show me where wiping down a hotel room makes any difference at all.

I also feel kind of sorry for people who waste vacation time wiping down door knobs, phones, etc.
