with flying and using magical express does anyone have any idea how much for a cab to the closest wal-mart?? would like to go and pic up soda and bottled water and the like

The nearest Wal-mart isn't that close....but there is a grocery store in the Cross Roads shopping area across the street from the DIsney Good Neighbor hotel row (by Downtown Disney). You could actually walk there and ride back to the resort.

Now I'll be a pain....why? Buy a mug and for $12 you can have all the drink refills you want at your resort for the length of your trip. The water it totally drinkable, but if you want bottled water you can get a bottle or a case at your resort. Alternatively, you can put as many bottles in your luggage as the weight will allow. Ditto for cokes. DD normally drinks diet Dr. Pepper, but on the trip is told to make do with diet Coke.

Yes, buying the stuff at the resort costs more, but the cost of the cab may more than eat the savings.

From Pop to the nearest WalMart is about five miles. Taxi fare would be in the $12 to $14 range each way, plus a 75¢ toll. It would probably be worth the effort as a case of water is under $4.00 at WalMart. Also the taxi would be able to take you back to very close to your room.

The prices there are MUCH lower than the prices at Goodings, the only grocery store in Crossroads

I dont think the Walmart is that close, nor is the nearest Publix Grocery Store. You have to come out of the Disney area, go to I4 heading south, get off at 192 and hang a left, past Old Town, close to the Pontiac Dealership. Publix is on the left just past the overpass and Walmart is on the right.

I would not bother, the cab ride will be expensive.

If you go to Staples.com and signup for the rewards program (free) you can have free shipping. It would cost $7 for each case of bottled water and you could have them shipped to your resort before you get there for free. Likewise maybe have a big box filled with snacks/food for your room Fed Ex'd down to arrive shortly before you for a VERY reasonable rate. The resort would hold it in storage for you and all you have to worry about is your clothes and bathroom stuff in your luggage.

That is not the closest Publix.
Publix is very close you have to make a left on Oseola parkway go under I-4 past Gaylord Palms and make a right . The road is International drive south Publix is on the left side of the road. I have been there many times. It is in the Xentury City shopping center.

The Walmart you are talking about is not he closest to Disney property either. There is on on 535 that another poster mentioned that is much closer.

Sorry :(

We never went that way before, I only know the 192 stretch, did not mean to misquote
