Thanks for your concern!

Indeed, we continue to monitor the weather.

We are thankful that we drove to WDW once again. Driving gives you the flexibility to depart on your own schedule. Again, we simply booked another day at WDW. Difficult to do when one has airline reservations...especially when confronting this massive snow storm. We'll allow the road crews to do their job on I-95, and then depart tomorrow morning instead on today. Hmm. Now let's see: what are we going to do to occupy our time at WDW? :rolleyes1

Still, whether one flies or drives, we wish all the very best for a safe journey.

airport floors are very comfy to sleep on when your snowed in!!:lmao:

How are those driving on 95 and 81? There really was a lot of snow out there. I just saw on the Weather channel that 81 is really snowed in! Safe driving if you have to. Where we are in Central NJ only about 10-12 inches. The southern portion of the state has much more.

We departed the GF at 7:30 a.m. today and arrived in Petersburg, VA at 8:15 p.m. We noticed some white stuff on the grass starting at mile marker 16 in VA. Just what is that white stuff? We think it's a preview of the 20+ inches (not counting drifts) that await us tomorrow afternoon at the Jersey Shore.

While my parents are not coming from Disney (but their winter residence near Ocala) they too have to confront the lovely white stuff waiting at their shore place. They moved to get away from this! I bet we won't see them next Christmas. LOL

Hope your drive goes well tomorrow...they did not do well today.

hows the travelers doing? bc, georgette, everyone get to were they were going? i see on the news the airports here were a mess. a plane was stuck on the runway for 7 hours!!! i thought of bc, in the gf with her feet up and the airport people sleepin in a chair.:lmao:drive on!!!

We arrived at the snow-covered (20+ inches, not counting drifts) Jersey Shore at 5:03 p.m. last evening.

We departed Petersburg, VA at 9:30 a.m. and had smooth sailing on a dry I-95. However, snow removal on the shoulders of I-95 between mile markers #161 and #174 in northern VA closed 2 right-hand lanes and forced traffic into an hour+ crawl. That was our only problem, unless you count the inconsiderate idiots who drove vehicles with snow on them; the cascading, flying snow was a definite hazard. Fortunately, it was mostly powder-like in its form.

Total drive miles for our 17th drive since 2002: 2,234 (which includes 76 miles in WDW).

Thanks to all who expressed concern during our journey.

Sure would like to make this drive again in March...:woohoo:

We are also waiting for the on-site geOrgette2 report about the drive down and Forward Facing Tentacles report about the drive home.

All the best.

T-minus 18 or so hours till we begin our 4th road trip to WDW. We plan to leave at 5am Sat from South Jersey and make it to at least Savannah! We'll see how we feel- maybe we'll go farther! Can't wait for our first Christmas trip. Hopefully, I'll report on the drive down once we get situated. Hope it goes smooth!! Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone! We have to postpone our driving departure by 24 hours because of this blizzard in Nebraska. Oh, well...at least we're snug in our home, not sleeping in the airport!

It's around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. If you were able to leave at 5 a.m., you folks should be in MD by now. May you have a "smooth" drive.

All the best.

Heading home to Illinois from Disney. Hoping the roads are good. Any first hand reports? Going thru Georgia tn ky Indiana etc

I know my family and I aren't planning on driving down until the end of this July, however we already made our reservations at the four Hampton Inn locations we will be staying at when going along Interstate 75. I say better to be safe then sorry and this way we can stay exactly where we want and don't need to worry about them being sold out, which has happened in the past at the locations we are staying at. Obviously we are staying at two driving south and two driving north, because we like to take our time when going and coming back home.

We're here!! Drive down was OK, but a lot slower than we're used to. We usually travel in the summer. We caught a lot of traffic outside DC and pretty much the whole way down. We arrived in Savannah at around 9p. We did leave a little late. From Savannah, it took us longer to get to WDW. Left Savannah at around 830 and arrived at WDW around 145p. Lots of traffic and gaper delays...but we're here and happy!

Happy New Year!!

Enjoy different kinds of transportation now that you are at WDW, like launches, crusiers and ferries on the Seven Seas Lagoon. A ride on Pirates is a good choice, too. But watch out for those runaway trains on Big Thunder Mountain RR!

All the best!

A friend of mine just got back from a trip down to NC and she said there was a lot of traffic around DC too. She didn't think it was construction related, just lots of people on the road. It is making me nervous for our trip down this weekend...oh, that and the fact that there is a Nor'easter brewing :scared1:

Arrived today from Canada. Took our time and drove over 2 nights. Left Xmas night because of the freezing rain. Took a little longer to reach the border, and can you believe that at 4am, in freezing rain, there was a line-up:scared1:Anyway, got to Roanoke the first night, and stayed in Savannah the 2nd night. The traffic on 77 the last 10miles before I95 was the worst ever:eek:Took over 1.5hrs to go 10miles. However, it only took us 4hrs20min from Savannah to Davenport. I'm sure when we come in May, and stay at the POLY, that we won't have snow issues:rotfl2: Beautiful here today. Hope everyone has a safe trip and an enjoyable holiday.:cheer2:

I am getting very nervous we are down to 2 months 60 days until our 1st driving vacation. Looking at all of your posts it makes me feel a bit better about the trip. I am making a big bag of Mommy "tricks" for the ride down and will be stopping at the dollar store every week to grab some surprises. I am starting to collect the movies that we will bring and loading up my Ipod.

Does anyone have any other ideas for an almost 3 year old boy?

in WDW for xmas drove own dec 18 left for home to chgo dec 27 the only constuction delays were in tifton Ga both ways about exit 59 for 30 miles

Hi everyone,
We are planing our first drive down this August. We are planing to drive from Montreal. We want to drive it in 2 days, stopping overninght at a hotel. However, we don't know if it will be better to book a hotel ahead of time or just wing it and drive the most hours the first day and stop when we are tired. If booking is the way to go, where do you recommend us to stop, which hotel...:surfweb:
Thanks in advanced.
