Leaving tomorrow ( between 3 and 4 am).:yay::yay:
Planning on staying in SC, but if the traffic and weather are good, we may drive to GA.

have a nice trip sharadoc!!! stopping at the cracker barrel at the walterboro exit?

Thanks. We're almost packed up!

The Cracker Barrel was in the plan, but we've decided to change it up a bit. We're going to stop in Wilson, NC at Parker's for some authentic bbq lunch, and get a break in the middle of the day. Then we'll just make some sandwiches in the room for dinner and get to bed earlier.

Anyone with any last minute advice???

We're looking forward to the latest road info (especially construction details) from the likes of such 2,000+ mile round trip drivers as Dismom11, sharadoc, Cupmom, coneeny4, NALA 24 and chellewasherre who are either on the road right now or heading our tomorrrow!

All the best.

Your informative posts are great, especially for those folks who are considering their first long drive to WDW. Keep us posted and, above all, drive safely.

Hi All,
We just left from SNJ ths morning at 3:30 am. We are trailering our DD(17)
car down to our vacation home in Windermere. She is starting school at UCF
next week. Like I said we left SNJ this morning, not problems at all untill
we hit some road work in NC which slowed us down a bit, and some heavy
rains in southern NC, which were utter down pours for about 50 miles, traffic slowed down, but kept moving.
Anyway we had reservations in Savannah, and arrived at 4pm. Heading out
in the am for the rest of the trip. stay tuned:rotfl2:

Glad to hear that your drive is going well and that the gas is cheaper than in NH. I will be heading down on 9/10 for my first time driving to FL.

Hi All,
Like I said we left SNJ this morning, not problems at all untill

Where in NC? We've never experienced road work that "slowed us down" in NC before (many slow downs, however, in FL, GA, VA, MD, and DE over the years).

All the best.

This is Coneeny 4 checking in under my DD's name.
We left Ma Friday at 4am and made it to Stephen City, VA at 4:30pm. We got lost in NJ and could not find route 84, I had to pull over and read the map myself. I was exhausted by the time we arrived at the Holiday Inn Express very nice hotel .
Left Va at 7:30 am yesterday we hit no traffic and I did 75 mph all the way and we got to Jacksonville, FL at about 7:30pm. We are at the Hampton Inn also very nice.
We are leaving in an hour and mapquest says 2 hours and 32 minutes to Pop Century.

The road work consisted of the highway crews scraping the sides, cones were set up for about 5 miles is all, but speed went from 70 to 30 to almost stopped a couple of times.

We too are ones who like the drive to florida. We have been driving down to Florida since 1979. Don't get me wrong but I also love flying. Just that it seems like we leave Minnesota, get there too fast and then we are back in the air flying home. I feel like we are on vacation a longer time when we drive. Gives me time to 'decompress' and get into the Florida/WDW frame of mind. Love stoping at the offical Florida Rest Stop when you first get into the state on 75.

Think we have made the trip in a car every month of the year. One december we drove into Kentucky with 6 inches of snow on the roof. It was from an overnite blizzard at Bloomington, IL and we wanted to see how long it would take to melt. People were really concern thinking that it was snowing that hard just outside their city.

I love seeing the spring come as we drive south or fall come when we go north. I mean really. How many times can you make the season change in just a couple of days? Going from winter blahs to green grass and bright blue skies. Not to mention the change of scenery. From the plains to the Blue Ridge Mountains to the ocean blue.

In a couple of weeks we will leave on Friday about noon and get there Sunday afternoon. Just in time to have a nice dinner someplace at WDW.

Happy Motoring everyone!:car:

Where was the road work? And did it look like a temporary project?
Thanks.

All the best.
