I would be driving from MA. I was thinking about leaving at about 3/4am on a saturday morning. We want to drive straight through (with plenty of stops in between of course) and get to Disney Sunday morning.

What do you think of that time and being a saturday with traffic. Will we be ok because it's a weekend?
Thanks.

I'm trying to plan the drive to be as painless as possible. My dh will be "nervous" if we sit in traffic for hours :headache:

The last 2 trips we left southern NH at about 3:00am on Saturday morning and had no trouble at all with traffic. We don't drive straight through, but last time we went as far as Brunswick,GA on our first day- so it will be similar to the timing of your drive (at least through GA).

We are living from the middle of NH :) I can't wait to go!

I-95 from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Richmond will be the most painful experience of your life the day before thanksgiving from noon to midnight, I live in Fredericksburg VA and work in DC, trust me, do not do it, 60 miles will take at least 3 hours:scared:

Ug, that's what I was afraid of. We have no choice though, so we'll just make the best of it.

Timing is everything in this area, if you find you are approaching DC between 1100am and 8pm the day before thanksgiving, look at the 301 bridge over the potomac as an option, also, tune to WTOP 107.7 and 103.5 FM for traffic reports every 10 minutes on the eights... it is the best source of traffic info in DC (baltimore to richmond)

I am a night driver when it comes to Disney, I love driving down at night, we leave Fredericksburg at 7 or 8 pm make the GA/FL border for sunrise and into the world between 8 and 9 depending on how many stops we made,,,DS and DW and I take turns with the drive, this time DS (tink) has her license but DS (22) is taking his own car as we are cruising before we head to the world this time, so that is still 3 of us....gonna be great!! I want to buy a dedicated DisMobile (conversion van or small RV) and paint it up Disney style, maybe some mouse ears on the roof;) Wife says I nuts...but if this is crazy than its better than reality!!!

Thanks so much! We are saying that we want to drive straight through, but who knows, we may change our minds??? We are also considering the Auto train. With that, at least we'll all get a little sleep and I think the kids might enjoy it!

Thanks for the responses. :) If we left from the Boston area around 4am on the day before Thanksgiving, I wonder if we would get through the DC/Richmond area before noon? It took us about 7 hrs. to get to Baltimore from here, so I'm guessing a couple more hours to get to DC/Richmond? Ok - maybe not such a good idea. :scared: Would driving on Thanksgiving Day be better?

OK, is anyone else going down I-75 this weekend?

They're predicting a major snowstorm this weekend in southern KY, and TN. I'm already freaking out. My husband is taking it in stride, but I'm just seeing not getting down there before Tuesday or Wednesday...if at all. Our ressies are from Sunday to Saturday.

We're traveling with my elderly in-laws and my 15 month old grandbaby, so we don't want to travel a long way in one day. And no, we can't leave before late Friday afternoon.

We've noticed that NYC is REALLY a city that never sleeps. In the middle of July on a Friday night at midnight, the traffic was crazy! We always go the tappanzee bridge route and thought we would try gwb. It was midnight, how bad could it be. There were no accidents either. It took us 45 minutes to get over the GWB. And it's not just the slow traffic. The other drivers on the road are not that helpful when it comes to merging traffic if ya know what I mean. That stresses me out more than having to wait in traffic.

But on the other hand, the majority of people are fast asleep by 4 a.m. We've gone through nyc early morning 4-8 a.m. on a weekend and the traffic is minimal.

We try something new every time we take a road trip. Hoping to find that perfect time and that perfect route. Last trip we timed all the major cities in the middle of the night and that was awesome! We didn't go through nyc though. We hit the tappanzee bridge around 8 p.m. and that was fine.

On the way back, it never works out that way.

Yes, my husband insists on using the GPS, he's terrible with directions, and it took us (from central NJ) to the GWB! We have always gone over the TappanZee bridge to go to MA! We had a travel trailer and the traffic was terrible! And then the tolls for us! On the way home I gave the directions and did go on the TappanZee. It's a much better ride. I figured the milage and it wasn't any different coming from Central NJ - can't figure why the GPS even goes that route!

Or any Saturday in the summer. It took us 17 hours to get to Walterboro SC from PA - should have taken 11. It was horrific!!!

Dh and I drove down from NJ back in 2001. We're gonna do it again this April, with 2 kids in tow! We're planning on leaving at around 3am and drive down as much as possible.

Well, we arranged it so we could leave before Friday afternoon after all. :wizard:

The snow isn't supposed to be bad in Tenn until about 1 or 2 PM. So we're leaving here after breakfast, about 7 or 8 AM. Instead of stopping at our in-laws in Grainger County TN (right outside Knoxville) for the night, we're going to join them at the rest area between Knoxville and Chattanooga (hopefully by about 2 PM), and continue on until we're out of the snow belt...probably Chattanooga or Northern Georgia.

Our ressies aren't until Sunday, so that gives us a very easy Saturday and Sunday. I know we can do it in two days (we'll take two days coming home), and we've actually done it in one. But my in-laws are pushing 70, and can't sit in the car for long periods. And travelling for long distances is hard for my year old granddaughter. :cloud9:

However, by doing it this way, it will probably cut it so our RT is slightly under 2,000 miles instead of slightly over. But we'll do a lot of traveling around Orlando...so that count, doesn't it?

Glad you could work it out to leave early. I hope you are well on the other side of the storm before it even begins! Have a safe and fun trip!

the search function is not working tonight! I am driving from Indianapolis in June. We are going to break it up in to two days. Driving the majority of it the first day. Where is a safe, clean place to stay over night. I would like it somewhere on I75.

TIA!

I haven't do so but I am planing for it. I am looking for some instructions about it. May be we start it very soon. Happy trails to everyone.
