Listen to your husband!! He's right. Enjoy the drive. After you get up in Savannah, make sure you stop at the Florida Welcome Center on the way and stock up on tons of Disney brochures and tourist books. Then you can all spend time looking at them and getting REALLY excited.

Don't exhaust yourself if you've never done it before. Your kids will be awake and you won't. That will stink!!

You are right! This will be our 5th time driving -- we have only stopped once before and I could barely sleep that night because of excitement. I will just wake him up at the crack of dawn (or before) and we will leave. Thanks -- I am so much more excited than my son! :woohoo:

We head out today from MD…. hoping to get on the road by noonish. :cool1: Hubby had to work a few hours this morning. HOPING to make it far into S.C. and the kids want to at least make it to Savannah. I have a reservation in Florence, but I believe I will be changing it. I have up until 4:00 to do so. Any last min. tips/advice?? :goodvibes
have a nice trip!!
I'm more of an irregular on here, but I'm happy she got a clean bill of health for another year! I think this calls for a Disney trip to celebrate.

Speaking of which, the piles are starting to form in our spare bedroom. Suitcases, socks, shirts, shorts, shoes, swimming suits, toiletry items. That's a sign that we're getting close! In 16 days, we'll be on the road to Disney World! I scheduled our mail to be held this morning, which was oddly exciting, probably because it means the trip is fast approaching. Happy travels to anyone driving right now!
thank you!!! 33 more days and its 11 nights at the beach club in a one bedroom. its our 30h anniversary trip! :thumbsup2

thanks Sharon! :thumbsup2

We always play our Disney World music CD from the 80s, and the Four Parks, One World from a couple years ago, once we turn off I-4 onto 417, so at least an hour's worth of music. The 80's disk has some great stuff - "One Little Spark", original Electrical Parade, "Walking Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA".

When we are ready to go under the arch, DD sings the "Celebrate You" song, and the rest of us have to do the "Oh Oh" background parts. It was THE song when she went on her first trip and it's a tradition that we keep.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICPxeDa8W-U

I started playing some of the youtube loops in the car too. I love the Epcot Future World loop. Some of my fave background music.

:lmao: ok, so I hit the link, it starts playing and briana comes bursting into the room!!! "wwwwhat are you listening too?" I said, did you ever hear this before???? she said yes!!! a million times everyday for eight months of my life.... over and over and over!!!! :lmao: ok, so I guess it killed some of the magic for her. :lmao:
one of the best "Disney" songs ever written!

:rotfl: that's why we don't stop. my wifes 49 year old , 2 year old husband doesn't sleep either. :lmao:

to all the regulars........ I had tam to philly this morning to wills eye, all is well for another year! :dance3:

Good news! I didn't realize that's where she went, for some reason I thought she went somewhere in NYC. I was seen there as a child (that would be like 50+ years ago!).

I am currently planning a trip. We currently live 1001 miles away from disney world. We have always flown.
Current plans, feel free to stop me and make adjustment.
Leave monday after school head to lexington, KY to my brothers. Either A. Try to sleep until 3or 4am. and head to disney. Or hit the road at 12am.
Arrive to an offsite hotel near disney or as far as we feel we can make it.

Coming home. This is tricky. We are going to the Halloween party the night before. But we would A. either get to my brothers which is about 12 or 13 hours or B try to make it home. I have no idea what time we would leave.

Right now spending around 300-400 for gas looks more appealing than flying. Any suggestions? we will be traveling with 3 girls ages 11, 10, and 6. Decent car travelers. One sleeps 90% of the time.

thanks Sharon! :thumbsup2

It's the time of your life ......

Tell Briana I said that was just for her LOL. I still like the song, although Corbin Bleu is so "yesterday" it is a great song and always makes me warm and fuzzy. Of course, the tradition of singing it now brings a tear to my eye, remembering how much she's grown and how many trips we've taken together. Even Shawn can do the Oh Oh part!

:thumbsup2 great place, they saved her life. she goes into nyc for work a lot.

:lmao: she still can do the entire dance and all the words to every parade. she made three scrap books of her program. im looking through them and asking her, when did you do that? where is this at! the one a remember the most is one of the lockers in the tunnel is signed by all the characters!! its pretty cool. it wasn't too far from hers. when she first came home and started sitting in a class room again, she really missed it. now that she is working....... I think it is just a great memory. (she still points with two fingers :lmao:)
lets not talk about tears in the eyes. :lmao: most of last year on all those trips I HAD to wear sunglasses. :lmao: I think she is realizing what the program and wdw had done for her. when she came home a lot of people said how much she had grown up in the last eight month while she was down there. she learned how to handle herself by herself. look people in the eye when your talking to them no down on the ground. she also learned there are a lot of nice and not to nice people in this world and when its time to call security. :lmao:

not sure where your starting from going down. heading home, the Halloween party is generally a late night, a lot going on. the kids should be pooped out.

bump!!!!

just stopping in to make sure my ticker was tickin! :thumbsup2

started packing the car today. got the inside all set up. in a week or two ill run the vac. on the inside and dust. the weekend before we leave, ill give it a rinse. its clean in the garage but it gets dusty. :lmao:

hope everyone is having a nice weekend!!!!! :thumbsup2

We have ashes tour plans to sleeping in the day after Halloween party. So this should be better for all!

Cleaned the inside of my truck today, getting the outside washed tomorrow, and packing it up by Wednesday night. We start driving from Rochester NY with another family on Thursday morning at 5:15!

Why 5:15? Because, silly, Starbucks doesn't open until 5:30 and it's 15 minutes away.

Bought a good pair of walkie talkies for talking between the cars. Our first day will be about 14 hours to Columbia SC. Second day is 8 hours to WDW.

Coming home we will head to Beckley WV for the first day then on to home.

This will be the third time we've driven this in 12 months!

Hmm. An interesting departured date. Now then, when will you be getting on to I-95?

All the best. :thumbsup2

hello bc! :wave2:

Howdy!

We were diving on I-81 in PA this weekend (from Jackson to I-380) before linking up with I-80. There's even construction on I-81! Is any interstate safe from construction these days.

However, it appars that we will be taking a lengthy drive in the not-too-distant future, primarily on I-95, with a link up with I-4. ;)

All the best. :thumbsup2

you should have said something!!! im only about 20min. from i80!!
there is construction all over, interstates, highways, borough roads and even dirt roads.
pendot is out edging the roads. 35 people....... one machine throws the weeds, dirt, grass onto the road, another comes behind them with a conveyor on it and throws its onto a state tri axle. its funny watching the machine bounce over the pot holes. the best is when the machine tosses that stuff into a pothole and the conveyor cant pick it up!!!! FILLED POTHOLE!!!! :lmao:
my tax dollars at work. cant figure it out...... no state income tax in florida and you don't have swerve out of your lane to miss a hole.

We are leaving for Disney world in ten months. (Not that I'm counting! ) This will be my first time driving to or in Florida... Nervous and excited. Myself and my fiance are coming from the Albany area in NY, stopping in NC, then continuing on straight to our resort. Any advice? We've gone as far as NC before. Can anyone help me estimate tolls or recommend good places to stop to rest or eat?

Well the good news is day 2 there will be no tolls. :cool1:

You guys want to talk about how it won't be the perfect road trip. You may go into this thinking, "All we want to do is gas and go!" and find yourself a bit wistful that you aren't stopping anywhere at all but rest stops. Or vice versa. Just talking about how it won't be perfect now will make it easy to keep talking/refining the process while you're actually travelling. :cool2:

Don't be afraid to get up and go early. If one of you is an early riser, count on that still being true after 1 day on the road. My family sleeps in their clothes on our overnight because they know I'll wake up early and shuffle them to the car. I get a good 2-3 hours on the road before any traffic. :thumbsup2 I get to break at breakfast time, and I'm no worse for wear upon arrival in WDW.

Also, I suggest finding an audiobook that's not too long - like 3-4 hours. We break ours up into 2-3 segments to fill the gap when the trip is dragging. Plus even a lousy audiobook gives us something completely different as a topic of conversation.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your road adventure.

Haha, i am very excited about no tolls on day 2!

We are both fully rational people of mostly sound mind :rotfl2: and we know that driving straight through is not realistic. On our trip to nc this past june, we probably totaled three hours in stops each way. Neither of us had ever spent that long on the road. It will probably be easier next time, because we know our bodies better.

Neither of us are early risers, but i'm very adapted to late nights. We're planing on leaving after nightly rush hour in albany, to get to nc early in the morning. I'm not sure what time to leave nc to get to orlando. Any suggestions?

Audio books are good, videogames are better for future hubby! ;) My kindle is awesome for me. Luckily we don't feel the need to endlessly chatter in the car, and we're pretty good at sleeping in shifts. I personally am cool with watching out the window, but I grew up poor where car rides were the best "vacation" i got, lol.

Thank you for your help! :)

Regular gas down to $3.21 (a drop of two cents since yesterday; a drop of eighteen cents since a week ago).

Keep goin.'

Gettin' ready for another drive as soon as the bad weather gets out of here over the next few days.

All the best. :thumbsup2
