We plan on leaving at 5am on July 3rd and going down 95 from Mass. We are hoping to get as far as South of the Border by 7pm. We have never gone down 95 to Disney, always took the inland route. Is this realistic? Seeing some of the posts about people heading to the beach is giving me second thoughts about going down 95. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

driving down the coast the day before the 4th of july? I wouldn't if I didn't have to but that's just me. pending on where you live, for me, its just as fast, if not faster going 81/77 but maybe for you its a lot longer.

Yeah we tried the inland route and it's a lot longer. We are driving from MA the weekend before. it will probably be crazy to say the least. We did it last year at the same time and it definitely took longer than usual. :(

We left at 4:00 am last year if you can leave earlier I would. We could only make it to NC in 14 hrs. It wasn't fun :(

that is what so hard about giving someone advise about which way to go. unless they live next door to you, its hard to give them a good answer.
driving styles, habits, how long you stop for.

I noticed last may taking briana down for the college program my closest friend of 42 years drove down with us. hes a putser!!!! :lmao: takes him five minutes to decide what he wants out of the drink machine at a rest stop. :lmao: stop for gas and hes off!! hes off sight seeing. :confused3
lets goooooo!!!!!! :lmao:

he drove on the way home and hes in the right lane.... two hands on the wheel. which is fine if that's the way you drive but this is the same guy who in high school took his new bmw 320i with me in it and kept driving over this bridge about 20 times going about 100 mph to see if he could he all four wheels off the ground. :lmao: needless to say I didn't let him drive long...... I kept saying "im getting old over here!" :lmao:

2 more days til we hop in the car and head down i10 from TX :)

Attempting the trip again without stopping, but that last leg in the early AM is tough stuff

Thanks on your thoughts about heading down 95 on July 3rd. There will be 3 of us doing the driving and my DH seems to think that we'll just drive until we decide to stop for the night. Doing the inland route adds about 200 miles to the trip.

200 miles at 70-75 mph ( which is the speed limit ) which is about 2 1/2 hours of driving. I sat in traffic longer then that going down 95.
But who knows, sometimes you sit sometimes you don't.
A lot of it is luck.

castle? I wish... close but not in the castle. :lmao:

you guys will be more then welcome to stop in and say hello. :thumbsup2

the other question...... when I was 15, I lost my mom to cancer. a year and half later I lost my dad to cancer. they were 49 and 51. Im the youngest of five. in 2000 I lost a brother to cancer he was 43.
I will be 49 in august.trust me, I live everyday like its my last. dw and I have been blessed and very lucky the last 30 years and have had great jobs. years ago, a guy, who I call my second father told me something I will never forget. I was complaining to him about not getting a raise and he told me," its not how much you make, its how much you spend." we bought our 2 bed,1200 sq ft home 28 years ago. all we need. its nice, clean, well kept and full of Disney. :lmao: out taxes and utilities are cheap. small house, small bills.
we only have one child. she never wanted for anything growing up with in reason. she is grown. not saying this because she is my kid, but I don't have to worry about her. the kids a hard worker. she is also cheap! :lmao: she is so tight she has to screw herself into her socks in the morning.:lmao:
she will never starve that's for sure. I didn't really have a normal childhood, I came from a close loving family but my dad was busy working and taking care of my mom. kemo in the 70s was a lot different than kemo in 2014.
I hooked dw into Disney when we got married, we were 19. we always wanted to move there. we made a few small "purchases" in florida and have them rented to family members for now. (no profit, just covering expenses)

we didn't spend every penny we ever made. "stuff" don't really mean much to us. the only thing we ever spent money on was Disney and our dd. I live a mile away from work and drove a company car for years. we only ever had to maintain one car and up to a year and a half ago, we never bought anything expensive. out to eat is cracker barrel. we don't gable or go out. now at wdw is different.

I go into a lot of people homes for work. elderly people with houses full of stuff. what are they going to do with it........... no idea. kids don't want your stuff. it wont fit into the casket with you. sell it!!!!!! take the money while you can and go have a blast!!!!!
I guess that's the point in dw and I lives we have come to. the pool, the big deck, the 70 inch flat screens all mean nothing if your not here. we don't need much. a few APs, some dvc dues and a small place in florida and we will be happy spending time together.

you will never have enough to retire. a great friend of mine is going through it now. he just turned 63. they sold there house and have a huge motor home. they spent the winter in arcadia florida and is now making his way through the south west. there retirement , social security and pension come to $3500 per month. I can live on that. his in laws worked there entire lives. he was a linemen for a power company and she was a nurse. never went any where, save every penny. well, they both ended up in a home for 12 years. wiped out there life savings. his father in law sinced passed and mother in law is now in the county home. we have a nice county home. but, she between the both of them living in the home....... shes broke. they had well over seven digits put away......... gone. all went to the home for there care.

so, that's my story. :lmao: im going to piss my money away, not a home when im peeing in my pants and don't know who I am. :thumbsup2

We are similar, you and I!!!! The difference is that I have 2 young boys at the moment. They are adopted which is where the bulk of our money went.....adoption is not cheep!!!!! The goal for me is 55!!! And until the 9 y.o. goes into the Navy (wants to be a seal) we wait in RI.

Love of Disney after I battled cancer in '91; started our driving there for my "I am all better trip." And has created a Disney monster.....complete with owning DVC.....best thing ever!!

I also work in home care and see so many people fill their lives with "stuff". Amazes me.

Have a wonderful day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

welcome home to cold Pa.!!! how are those southern gas prices? getting any better? glad you had a good trip.:thumbsup2

Well if by "southern gas prices" you are willing to stretch it to include southern NJ, the prices have been dropping here. I paid $3.35 (cash or credit) this morning. They had been about 10 cents higher a week or two ago.

Unchanged in our neck of the woods in southern Ocean County: $3.59 at nearby Wawa; $3.57 at Delta. What is your general area?

All the best. :thumbsup2

glad to hear your all better! :thumbsup2 my sister is a breast cancer survivor and I have a brother that had a bought with skin cancer. my dad died of brain cancer,my mom died of ovarian cancer and my brother died of lymphoma. 5 out of 7 in my family. :sad2:
the older I get, the harder it gets to keep your head screwed on right.
my brothers son, who was 8 when his dad died graduates from medial school this semester. after his dad died, he told his mom he was going to be a doctor when he grows up and find a cure for this mess. well, hes now a doctor. I wouldnt put it past him to fulfill his other promise.

after all that, my wife a few years lost her vision in her left eye due to a tumor on her optic nerve. it wasn't cancerous but she under went radiation.

my brother who died of lymphoma is the brother who was stationed in the af in homestead in the early 70s and is why and how we started this Disney addiction.

I told this story on this thread a few years ago. a lady who visited this thread a lot pm'ed me. one of the nicest person I have ever met who was battling cancer her self. I got to meet her and her family shortly after in the magic kingdom. we had a great meet up. talked for the longest time.
the following year we were down again at the same time and just never were in the same spot at the same time and I missed her.i still kick myself today.... she passed not long after that.i had no idea she was back in the fight.
everytime we walk by the hall of presidents, on the side where there is outside seating, dw and I always mention our meet with sarah. what a sweet lady. we will never forget her!!!
she was a great friend while dw was going through her ordeal. pmed me just about every day..... just to see how things where going. she never met me other then from the boards.

I'm ashamed of myself! I ask the gas price question and didn't look myself what it is around here. :lmao:
I fill up three times a week, I stop at the same station ( the owner of the company I work for is friends with the owner of the station) and I use a company credit card and I know, its bad, but I don't even look. :sad2: the boss does the payin so he does the sayin!

$3.39(9) for the cheap stuff
$3.69(9) for premium or diesel
