"For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only!" (IV)

For our Thanksgiving trip, I made a Dave Matthews Band playlist for my iPod. Pretty much had a collection of all his studio and live albums. I also listen to Lithium on Sirius/Xm. 90's grunge and rock is my favorite road trip song genre.

Maybe I'll steal the hubby's phone and do that! Brings me back to the dark ages of making mix tapes in hs. :rotfl:

What does everybody like to snack on or eat during these drives? I usually get some pretzels, sandwiches for a rest stop lunch and sometimes cold pizza from the night before. I always try to pick up a special soda or two as well. Stuff I normally wouldn't drink.

We normally stop at Subway as we leave our house and get a breakfast sandwich and a regular footlong sub. We each get a different footlong sub and eat half for lunch and switch the other halves for dinner ( so we aren't eating the same as lunch). We pack chips in old Disney popcorn buckets using a different colored one for each type of chip/candy/snack packs so we don't have to open the bucket to see what is inside. We bring a cooler with waters (we bring Mio for flavoring) and soda. Last stop before we hit the road is at Starbucks.

After planning our next 2 week visit in August with the associated 18 hours of driving.... and then we were looking for something to do for April break, and, well we have annual passes, so... another drive in April.

Has anyone else been fool enough to drive from the midwest or northeast twice in one year? I am a fool....

We usually drive at least three times a year from the Chicago area. One year we drove 5 times. And one year we had 19 days between arriving home from one trip and leaving for the next.

We have driven down so many times since retiring in 2007, I have lost count on our total number of drives ( guess I'll have to count our keys to the world). Unfortunately, we only got in two trips (for F&G and F&W) last year as we got a great deal on a last minute Celebrity transatlantic cruise so we missed our Nov/Dec trip to Disney for Christmas.

Thanks! We are looking forward to the end of tax season so we can head back to Disney as soon as DH's last tax client is done. Can't wait to see Flower &Garden this year. We should make it down 3 times this year at the minimum.
After driving to Disney so many times, it was awful having to fly for our cruise. Having to worry about luggage amounts, sizes and weights, going through security at two airports (here and in Europe - when you transfer from an international flight to an EU flight, you go thru security again at least in Amsterdam and Paris) on our flight over, I really appreciated our drives to Disney. But the chocolate bar at the Amsterdam airport was great - so glad it was right by our gate for the leg to Rome. Sort of helped calm the stress of flying.

It's always good to read posts by the record-setting (see page one, post number one) cruisingcat from the Chicago area.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Not the Northeast, but two summers ago I made the trip from Missouri to WDW twice in a month. I had mine and my DD's annual trip and the day I got back I found out that I was laid off from my job. To celebrate my sudden time off I loaded up my car again 5 days after I got home and spent the next two weeks at WDW. It was my first solo trip and it was Amazing. I think that was the first summer I was actually tired of being there and ready to come home. lol.

I forgot to add. I make the drive down 2 or 3 times a year but that was the one time I had made it so close together. I make the drive down by myself and after that time I was so sick of driving at all for the longest time.

I have this special little travel cooler my DD got for me. Its big enought to hold a few drinks and sandwiches. We always make some sandwiches the night before we leave and that way we dont have to stop for food along the way. I also pack a case of Monster :coffee: driving requires energy :goodvibes and chips for my DD and honey mustard pretzels and some pre cut apples for me. If I remember I like to have bananas also. But that dont happen too much.

Twice a year? :bitelip: That's all, just twice? ;)

We've done four drives in a year four times! And once we made five drives within a 12-month period (see All-Time Records on page one, post #1). :drive:

All the best. :thumbsup2

Wow. We have done it twice with a drive and flew that same year, 3 trips. I can't wait for the day we can do 4+

We will do twice this year, august for WDW and December for the cruise.

Count down is on.

It's official! We are doing the drive down to FL on August 17. Spending half the week at Vero Beach them 3 night at Fort Wilderness. Can't wait.

3 times in 2010 - February, June and December :thumbsup2

We just drove down. We used to stop at Cracker Barrel, waffle house, dennys. Now we stop at McDonalds for oatmeal and yogurt. We now make a fruit salad at home and sometimes bring baby carrots and sandwiches.

Gas down was mostly $3.19 but we did see some places that were higher. Orlando much higher.

Can anyone tell me what to expect in terms of traffic in the DC area.

Traveling I-495S to I-95S on a Friday morning during April break around 9am.

In July 2012 We traveled the same route on a Friday at the same time and there was no traffic at all.

Just wondering if this was a fluke.

Thanks

We are doing our first WDW roadtrip this summer! Roundtrip is around 2400 miles :woohoo:

I was a fluke or a holiday. I try to avoid DC traffic like the plague. Either leave early or leave late. Good luck!
