Well, it's almost time to leave for WDW - OK, not until tomorrow morning, but I'm READY to go! We're a little south of dvczerfs, and will leave around 7:00am. We've made the trip quite a few times, though not as many as dvcerfs. We try to stop at Kingsland, GA (exit 3) each time and pull into WDW the next morning. Used to drive straight through, but didn't like spending points for the extra night. Now that we have some extra points, we may start doing that again.

Here's hoping that south of DC won't be too bad. Tried the 301 route ONCE and didn't care for the lights and such.

Have a fun and safe drive... I start driving in less than a week - next Thursday morning!

Lady bebop it was the east bypass. We were following the along I-75 book. I didn't even know there was another one!
We used the hotspot on my husbands cell plan. He hit his 5-gig limit our first day in Florida. That was with 3 of us streaming some tv at times :)

At a little under 84 miles, I-275 is the longest beltway (or Circle Freeway, as we sometimes call it) in the US, and one of the longest in the world. You can start at one point on the freeway, and about an hour and a half later, you'll be at that point again.

Going west from I-75 in Sharonville to I-75 in Erlanger, it's 42.74 miles. Going east, it's 41.04 miles. Your GPS will take you east since it's a couple of miles shorter. However, it's usually more congested during rush hour.

Streaming movies will eat up a data plan. I like to use what is known as a Wi-Drive. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...ive&sprefix=wi+dr,aps,261&rh=i:aps,k:wi drive It's a wireless external drive tht works with both my Kindle and iPhone. I bought the 32 gigs for about $60. I was able to put nearly 24 hours of my DGD's videos on the Wi-Drive and still have enough for some of my music and personal videos.

Left southern CT at 1:45 am via I-95 and are making great time. Almost 4 hours in around Joppa, MD. Hoping the flash flood watch will expire.....

Safe travels! There's a little bit of weather coming at ya, but once you clear DC it should end. (according to the radar)

We lucked out big time by just missing the weather. The speed traps in VA, not so much. Rookie mistake. 10:00 and into NC.

Ouch. Where did they get you, and if you don't mind sharing, were you more than 10 over in a 55 or 65?

A 70 mph limit and I was over (oops- embarrassing) on 295 (the belt around Richmond). We didn't even see him. But it is definitely an initiative bc then we saw them EVERYWHERE in VA- local and troopers- mostly out of state drivers.

There again, what's the need to go over the limit...? Must have extra money to throw around... I might go over by a mile or 2 but never have to worry about speed traps... And looking down at the speedometer when I spot the police... Too late then, they got cha !!

Not that I am advocating breaking speed laws, but I can understand the incentive to go a little faster, as it can save hours off a long trip like many are making to WDW.

Yeah, and if caught, you'll pay for it... Totally unnecessary, what do you gain in a 1000 mile trip going 10 MPH over... 2 hours maybe and a shot at a ticket.... If you feel the need.... Go ahead, speed..!

A few thoughts:

1) To answer Pepe from Ohio's question...it depends on the speed. Let's assume 1,000 mile trip. Travelling at 80 MPH, it will take you 12.5 hours. Travelling at 70 MPH, it will take you 14.3 hours (a little less than 2 hours longer). Travelling at 60 MPH, it will take you 16.7 hours (almost 2 1/2 hours longer than if you went 70 MPH).

2) Neither my husband and I like to go above 70, and neither of us have had a speeding ticket in over 20 years. However, nearly five years ago (it will be exactly five years at the end of October), DH was pulled over for going 60 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. He was able to talk himself into a warning. It did help that DD was in the back seat in hard labor.

3) However, I do worry about DD driving on vacation. She does like to push the speed limit (and has had a couple of speeding tickets). We'll just warn her that she's driving her father's car.

4) Regarding speeding on an outer-belt....My one speeding ticket was doing 67 MPH on the Cincinnati outer-belt (this was 1983, when everything was 55 MPH). That stretch is now 65 MPH. I didn't think there were any outer-belts with speed limits exceeding 65 MPH. I guess if you're far enough away from any urban area, it could be. However, I don't think there's any parts of the Cincinnati outer-belt that's 70 MPH. And there are parts of the outer belt that's over 20 miles away from Downtown Cincinnati. As I previously mentioned, it's the longest outer-belt in the U.S.
