Okay it looks like we are gonna have a extra day in Disney:thumbsup2 We will be picking up DGD up from school between 11 and 12 on a Tues and heading out from the Harrisburg PA area driving as far as we can go hoping to make it NC. DH works the 3-11 shift so he is used to be up late so maybe a little further like into SC, do you think that is possible. We are hoping to be in Disney by at least 4 pm Wed. The next choice we have to make is staying at the POP for a room only get up early check into POFQ at 7 am next morning leave our stuff and head out to a park or staying off property and doing the same. So what do you veteran drivers think :car:
hi pam, pending on which way your going, it takes me about an hour and a half to get to harrisburg from hear, it should take you about 9-91/2 hours to get to south of the boarder.(nc/sc state line) from there it takes me 7 hours to get to okw.:thumbsup2

i do that leg in 9-91/2 hours, but i onlt stop 2 time between home and there. so factor in the kids, even though your 1-11/2 hours closer, you probley will have to stop more.:thumbsup2

Just have to share, we just traded in our Toyota 4-runner for a GMC Savana Conversion van - I see many more road trips in our future and our trip to Orlando next month is going to be our first big trip in it.

klmrph congrats on the new vehicle, you will certainly be comfortable on your road trip!

My DH is now saying we should buy a new vehicle before our drive in August but I kinda like my car, it hasn't never given us any trouble and don't see the need to replace it, although it is almost 9 years old. Maybe he does have a point. Boy this trip is getting expensive:rotfl:

Off Topic the picture of your baby is so cute :)

Since it will be a Saturday morning (April 9th) when we are avoiding DC by taking 81 to 66 to 17 and it is reported to be crowded on 17 on Saturdays. Would it be better to do 81 to 70 to 270 and then take the western beltway around DC? We have done the latter two times and have not had a problem. Last October we took the Auto-train and went 83 to the eastern beltway and hated it, so that one is out. Which way should we go?

I was thinking the 15-17-95 route or would going the way you go be better at that time of day I'm thinking we will hit Richmond at rush hour we usually go right through 95 instead of the bypass around Richmond although depending on when we hit it we might just go around. DGD is a really good traveler and as long as we have the DVD's going she is great it's DH that likes to stop

15-17-95 is ok. i basicly go the same way but i take 81-66-17, i cut out the rt15 lights. i all ways stay on 95 thriugh richmond. ive noticed as long as i hit it by 4-4:15, your still good as long as theres no wreck. one year i went through it at 5pm and we made it! you should see the amount of cars coming down the ramps to enter 95.:lmao:

this is my opi. only, but any way you go in that area on a sat., during the shore, summer or holiday travel times, you stand a good chance of hitting alot of traffic. if your going early april, you shouldnt have that problem either way you go. now, if theres a wreck, broken down car, fire, what ever, it can hold you up on any route you take. travel on a week day, stay away from the dc,balt, richmond area during the rush hours. on the weekends, to ensure very little traffic, get there before 10am or so. hit any rt. around there noon to mid. sat. and you could hit anything. races, sporting events what ever.so, i would say, what ever worked for you in october, stick with it. ive been driving rt17 for about 20 years and never hit alot of traffic but i use it on a tuesday at 6am-8am and on a sat. afternoon from 4pm to 5pm. i go 81-77-26-95 if im going in the summer, shore, holiday weekend time zones.good luck:thumbsup2

We have AAA and we plan to pay the extra to take the vehicle to a chain for repairs, rather than a local repair shop. We have had work done at our local Tires Plus, so we prefer to use that. AAA will tow us wherever we want, for an extra fee, of course.

Then we'll call Enterprise, go on our trip and come back to that point and pick up the vehicle on the way home. If it's within 3 hours or less of Disney World, we'll pick up the van when it's ready. Otherwise, it will have to wait for us.

Or, if it's something that can be fixed in a few hours, we'll have to wait for it.

But, we always get a thorough check-up, flush and fill the transmission, radiator, etc., check tires, brakes, tune-up, oil change. We always feel the vehicle is in top condition, so it should be fine!

SHARON, DID YOU GET MY TEXT I SENT YOU THIS AFTERNOON? CHECK IT OUT!!! MAYBE WE WILL BE ABLE TO SAVE SOME MONEY!:thumbsup2

Got my AAA Triptik today in the mail and it shows a lot of construction along 95 in South Carolina. Don't remember this from last summer. Is it bad? :cool2:

F.Y.I. disney has there summer deal out as of today. i just went from $4553.00 to $3300.00 for the same resi!!!!! i had to call because my dates were showing no avail. but they gave it to me. give it a shot!:thumbsup2

I saw on AAA yesterday that there is also construction the whole way through TN for those coming from the northwest.

YEP I did save something, but of course, ended up spending it all and then some. We decided to do a couple of nights in the Contemporary since we can do it cheaper, then we'll move to OKW. Extended the vacay for a couple more days though.

Still hoping to go for an AP discount for the OKW part. Guy on the phone said it could happen by early May.

Thanks for the alert!!! Oh, FYI we're not stalking. :lmao:

56 more day's 'til we hit the road. And it can't come soon enough. In the mean time I'm living vicariously through all of you traveling before us.

At the end of April I'll go to AAA to get the maps. I'm old school. No GPS for us. I get the Northeast and Soughteast maps. And I get a map for every state we drive through I'll print out directions on line from AAA (I know exactly what route I want so I do it on line and manipulate to what I want) but I still love maps. I love seeing where we are and where we have to go etc.

sigh....

:thumbsup2 i still bring the atlas with us. the gps is on maps, i like watching the mph on it instead of the dash. the way i sit in the van, i have duck to see under the steering wheel to see how fast im going so its easier to look at the gps.
