Ok, my last post for a while. We're off at 4 am. Car is packed, I'm exhausted. Ready to just get this trip going and get there safely. I'm freaking paranoid about the drive.

Have a safe trip. We are off tomorrow too, but later in the day.

To the folks heading out soon, have a safe trip!

We just returned this past Saturday. It was a good trip down on Thurs-Fri (8/19-20) and naturally a bit rougher on the way home. Not so exciting to be going home plus we hit a lot of traffic on 95 in NC. Added an hour onto our trip. Oh and for the love of Pete, SC, please put a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks on at least one exit of 95! lol

I just have one question... How the heck do I get all those disgusting bug guts off the car? Seriously. I have gone thru the carwash and they are still there. Eeewwww!!!!

Can you tell me where the comfort suites was and how it was? We booked a comfort suites in Brunswick, Ga and I am a tad nervous about it. Its only one night so its not that big a deal but I am used to staying in Savannah at a Marriott chain but the price was so good I couldn't pass it up.

The comfort suites was ok. I don't know if it was worth $117 (with tax) for the night, but the beds were comfortable and it had a free continental breakfast in the morning. We were so exhausted, it didn't matter, it was clean, so I could live with it. There are a ton of hotels in the same area where we stayed, the comfort suites was in the back of all of them, and it was pouring when we got there so it was really hard to find it! We ate at the Outerbanks steak and seafood place which was close by and it was ok. You will be fine at the comfort suites in Brunswick - have a good trip!

Ok thanks! I think I paid $80 tops for the night for the comfort suites so for that price I can live with ok. LOL

Indeed! We have resorted to either a pre-car wash at-home hand-scrubbing or a post-car wash at-home hand-scrubbing to get those bug bodies off. A simple car wash isn't thorough enough, unless you get an upgraded service that involves additional car wash personnel.

All the best. :thumbsup2

So are you saying that the Love Bugs are back? We had a problem with them a few years ago. They were so bad that year that when we hit a swarm it was like fog. They were all over everything. Smashed on cars & busses. We had a brand new car & by the time we got home & washed the car, the corrosive body fluids had eaten into the car paint & pitted it. We have since gotten a bra for the car, but the Love bugs have never been as bad as they were that year.

i always wax the van before we go. if not the entire van, atleast the front bumper area and the hood and the windshield arms.:thumbsup2 i use mothers wax and it comes off alot easier when we get home. i have windex and paper towels in the van and when we stop over night, i clean the bugs off the windshield. we have a bug deflector on the front but it realy dont do much other than one more thing to clean.

has anyone stayed at the red roof inn in Kingsland GA - just got a rate for 45 for the night including taxes - also how far from orlando will we be at that point.
this is my first time driving down since 1998 and i am starting to get nervous about it

I haven't stayed there (we typically drive straight through) but you'll be approx 3 hours from WDW at that point.

We just stayed there 2 weeks ago on our drive down. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. It's not fancy but was clean and comfortable. Plus they have a free breakfast in the morning which was great. Like the PP said, it was about a 3 hour drive to WDW. Good luck with your drive and have a great vacation!

thanks guys for the input - i was kinda worried about the hotel based on its price but you have reassured me

We are heading down from northern Indiana on 9/24 after my son gets out of school and stopping south of Indianapolis, in Columbus IN at the Days Inn for the night. Our second leg of the trip will take us along 65 - 24 - 75 through Atlanta and we have a room booked at a Super 8 in Warner-Robbins GA for Sat. 9/25. Now I am worrying about time with Atlanta rush hour, will it be as bad on a Saturday? We'll leave Columbus by 7 or 8 so likely hit Atlanta maybe around 2 or 3? We already have non-refundable rooms booked so we're stuck either way, just wondering if an earlier or later departure time from Columbus would be better! And yes, I know Warner-Robbins is a bit off the path, but it was the only low priced room I could find with interior corridors (DH's insistence)!

On the way home we are stopping about halfway at a Microtel in Chattanooga, TN. I've been going through this thread looking for any advice, and I'll stop back and let you all know how these motels end up once we stay there ;) Any suggestions on the Atlanta rush hour or other tips?

how much further south is Kingsland from Brunswick?

Kingsland is right on the Florida border. When you leave Kingsland you are in Florida in about 3 minutes. From there you got a 2.5 hour ride to Disney. Makes for a great short second day of driving.

We're leaving Tuesday morning around 7am from north central NJ. We take 81/77/26. We've driven down the same week the last couple of years and never had any serious delays, just some construction around Chambersburg PA which seems destined to continue until the end of time. We spend the night in Columbia SC and arrive at WDW early the next afternoon. The nice thing about this drive is that the middle part of the trip, which is when you would tend to get the most bored, is through the Shenandoah mountains in VA so the beautiful scenery makes the time go by faster.

Thank you so much for this thread!:worship::worship:

We are heading down in December from Maryland. It will be the first time drive down for DH and I since we were the kids in the back! I have learned so much from this thread and just wanted to say thank you!

It has been forever, hasn't it? It seems they have been working on I-81 for at least the last 10 years. At least my trip starts south of all that mess! Have a safe trip.
