For $15/hr, You'd Think That I Could Hire Someone!

I need to hire a few people for the summer. Granted, it's not fun work (moving furniture), but it's $15/hr plus mileage reimbursement, and it's usually just a couple weekends a month, so a nice little second income or part-time job for a student.

But surprisingly, I can't find anyone. I've heard that the hours are too early (10:00 am!) or that working Saturdays conflicts with their social schedule or that working Sundays conflicts with church activities. Which is understandable, but then why apply for a job that says "Weekends" in the advertisment).

Actually, I can find plenty of reliable, hardworking people to work - unfortunately they are all females who cannot lift more than 50 pounds!

So if anyone in the D/FW area has a brother/cousin/son/spouse/friend, etc. who wants a part time job...I can probably hook you up!

hmmm. I was almost interested as some extra income, but I can't lift more than 50 lbs, and I won't give up church on Sunday! Otherwise, that sounds like great pay for a fairly easy job!

Good luck! I hope you find someone soon.

OP: Put an AD in your local paper...or several local papers in your area. Do NOT advertise the amount right away. Say instead "pays very well"...! Get their names, interview them and IF you like them and they seem responsible, then that is the time you tell them $15.00ph! THEN, finally, call and get a
reference on each applicant.

College is winding down and students WILL be looking for work. Get that AD in ASAP. Place index cards in your local supermarket as well. We even have a bulletin board in our church hall for ADS. :thumbsup2

Im in DFW.. Pm me if you dont mind and let me know more specifics.. such as what needs to be done.. what area in dfw, etc.. I can check around and see if I can find someone who can help you out.. and help them out at the same time.. Let me know how to get ahold of you so I can pass it on if you'd like me to..

I'm not interested myself but know a few people that might be. PM with specifics and I'll pass it on.

It stinks. I have a terrible time when I need to recruit for some support positions. We have copy clerks and kitchen workers making more than $50k a year, with awesome benefits, and they complain about it. Seriously, with only a HS diploma and not a lot of experience they feel they are above it. :sad2: Somehow we've created a society where a job has to be cool & fun or people aren't interested.

You might try listing it with the unemployment office. Good luck with your search.
