Footwear??

I always wear Teva or Merrell walking sandals. To be honest, Merrell are cheaper than Teva and I find them more comfortable. You can get Merrell in branches of Milletts (sp?), the camping shop. One of the best things about them is the fact that if they get wet, they dry pretty quickly and because the soles are some sort of rubber you don't get that squelchy feet problem which I hate. They don't make your feet feel hot either and because they are usually completely adjustable, they are the perfect fit. I have terrible problems with shoes because I am size 5 but I have a very wide foot and normally have to wear a 6 or 7 (I have Hobbit feet ), so these are excellent for me.

Thanks to all who replied.
I think my old Nike trainers coupled with the dual layer socks will be best . Esp for me and my sweaty footed DS.13 YO.Socks are quite expensive appx £ 7.00 but I am sure I will feel the difference. However the girls have already broke the bank with new shoes ( dutifully being broken in as I type) so I will not feel gulty splashing out!

For the trainers I bought, the UK sizes tend to be a size smaller to those on the box. Don't make the same mistake I did. I wore my new trainers to the park and landed up with two blisters by the end of the day

Well I have always worn sandals, usually Doc Martin sandals and they have been fine. I couldn't possibly wear trainers, I tried once and my feet got far too hot.

Cheap £5.00 foam flip flops for me. I wore my Nike trainers and OMG my feet hurt they were so hot. I thought one day what will these meant to be round the pool flip flops be like and they were perfect. I did put a plaster on my second toe on both feet to prevent rubbing as your feet sweat. They were perfect and I bought these from Sainburys for £5.00.

These are my number once choice again, but hubbie tends to wear trainers.

I alternate days with comfy Skecher trainers and Springer sandals. The only problem with the sandals (not only on hols) is that the bottom of my feet get sore - I don't get blisters but very sore on the bottom. No matter what treatment I have on my feet (chiropodist before we go, lotions and potions after showering . . . ) but I would NOT wear socks with sandals

I took some special walking sandals with me (can't remember the make at the moment) and ended up buying a pair of trainers and socks, although they did sometimes make my feet hot I have to admit they were better than the sandals for comfort.

You need to go up 2 sizes.

So if you take a size 5 Uk you will take a 7 US. bare in mind this is womans, I have no idea for mens. I tried to do a conversion for men, but most of the shoe conversion sites appear wrong. I am going from experience here.

US shoe size= same as Canada and Australia.
Australia = 2 sizes bigger than UK.

When in a half size go up, unless the shoe is a sandle were the width can be changed. (sneakers can not be changed)

I take a 9 in UK and that is always shown as 10 US. I regard myself as a man! Hehehe

Re the crocs - its tricky.. and trial and error I would think.

I did try them on in the USA before I bought any... but obviously you might not be able to do that.

Re sizes.. the small sizes are size 6 - 7 US (which are 4 - 5) mediums are 8-9 US (6 - 7 UK) and Large are 10 - 11 US (8 - 9 UK) they do go bigger too...

They are roomy and wide shoes..
ALSO you can get ones in individual sizes, which look the same (CAYMAN CROCS) but the most widely found ones are BEACH CROCS.

I bought one pair in Ft Lauderdale, one pair in Orlando (at the BAss Pro shop in festival Bay , but I hear that dillards now sell them) and three pairs via ebay, two from a US seller and one from a UK seller..

i bought some reef sandals on ebay.Brand new and a lot cheaper than in shops.They are like surfing sandals with velcro bits to alter room for your toes.They are by far the comfiest shoes i have ever worn-didn't need breaking in either

Have to share this:

Been away to west Cumbria for the weekend (where I'm from originally) and visited the New Balance factory shop over there. DH always buys these trainers, he was a serious jogger before he had a stroke 18 months ago and swears by them. I've never had NB before but decided to treat myself, I tried on a pair of womens 834 and they were the most comfortable things I have ever put on my feet!! Bought them, put them on as soon as I got back to car (like I'm 6 again!) wore them for two full days while over there and not a problem at all. They're light as a feather, feel like I've got slippers on!, but very comfy underfoot.

Guess what I'm wearing to the parks in September?!!!

I am a size 7 and usually buy mens trainers (have funny feet!) but got womens size 8 and they're fine.
