Been on some of the American sites, and they say trainers are a big no no in the theme parks, sweaty sore feet etc.

Eight years since our last visit and can't remember?

Anyone recommend any decent footwear?

We have always worn trainers including new ones brought on the trip and have never had a problem.
If you do have a problem with your feet then stick to your old comfortable ones.
Blisters are no fun on holiday :cool1:

Deffo trainers or comfy walking shoes, that's what my dad always wears
I once made the mistake of wearing sandals one day and flip flops the next-bad idea, i was in pain for days!!! i still have some scars!!! :guilty: :sad2: i blame my own stupidity for that one

Definitely trainers as my first choice, but it's a definite 'schoolboy error' to wear trainers that haven't been 'broken in' - just asking for blisters!!! I've also worn Birkenstock sandals around the Theme Parks, comfy for the walking but I did hold them when I went on the coasters at IOA just to ensure I had them at the end of the ride!!!

Can't overstate how important it is to break trainers in before you wear them to the theme parks - do you really want to start suffering from blisters with the knowledge that you've stilll to trek halfway across MK?

We wore white '1000 miles socks'- used by runners, they're double layered and I find they stop any kind of blisters in the heat. Also wore our old faithful trainers for 2 weeks without any bother, did buy new ones for back home as we definitely finished the old ones off in the parks, water rides, etc.!

Excellent choice arieliwish but how thick were they ?

I am only used to the walking ones i use, the idea behing them is the inner sock moves independantly of the outer sock and prevents abrasion and hence reduces the blister count.

we all wear sandals. Closed shoes and socks would be cruel and unusual punishment in orlando in July.
I get hot just looking at people in closed shoes.

My husband and I wear birkenstocks, both kids wear sandals similar to Teva.

The 1000 mile socks are fairly thin, similar to a 'normal' mans sock (I'm thinking M&S cotton!), nothing at all like a chunky sports sock, and yes they are inner/outer double socks. We haven't bought any for a while as DH used to 'compulsory bulk buy' them when he was a serious jogger! They came from proper sports shops, not like the big sports stores - can't say I've ever seen them in the likes of JJB, etc., but then I've never looked.

Yes your feet get hot but the AC in the car turned to floor setting is a god send! So is slipping trainers off in a dimly lit restaurant/cafe!! (Don't worry havent got smelly feet!)

I always wear sandals. I get the spingers brand from Clarks. Extremly comfortable and I have never had any problems with blisters. I have tried trainers and my feet got too hot !.
:cool1:

I always wear trainers but give my feet a quick blast of anti perspirant before putting on cotton socks, agree that whatever choice of footwear you have they must be well broken in :cool1:

Definitely trainers, I would pick some though that have a deep sole, like Nike Air for example.
The thicker the sole the better really, the main thing is that your footwear is comfortable, theme parks are not the ideal place to break in a new pair.

You may also want to think about your shoes getting wet, this could affect your choice.

I tend to wear a thin pair of white socks, with the tops rolled down a little - just seems to help prevent blisters etc

as already said, wear slightly broke in trainers, as last time we went i had my "sparkling" new nike's on and after a few hours my feet were sore as hell :cool1:

:hourglass 30 days to go....oh yeah..

Any good 'running' shop - as opposed to the general sports wear market like JJB.

We wear sandals or trainers (already broken in) depending on how the mood takes us. For instance, if we know we are doing wet rides, sandals are favourite because you don't have to walk around in soggy socks afterwards, and sandals dry out quicker than trainers.

I'm another one who wears sandals but DH wears trainers. Personally I would say wear what you are most comfortable in but as most people have stated the general rule of thumb is make sure they are well broken in :)

I wear m&s foxglove sandals they are very comfy and with open toes they let the air in.

I wear sandles (again they are broken in)

If I wear trainers I am boiling hot, My feet swell up and then my trainers become too tight.

Another great tip for socks is the "Defeet" brand - athletic socks, often sold at good quality bike shops - £8 a pair but top notch quality and loads of design, some with some great names.

The feet, toes and ankle sections of the sock are all made from different materials to make the best fit. They also do the trainer liner style if you want to avoid the fashion faux-pas of white ankles and a sun tan that stops two-three inches above the shoe?

Look at www.defeet.com ::MickeyMo

I bought three pairs of trainers from the Nike factory outlet. The newest craze out there is Heelys, which are wheels in a trainer heel.

For running socks you might wanna try www.startfitness.co.uk.
The double-layer on some running socks mean that the socks rub against themselves rather than against your skin (and I always recommend wearing socks with closed shoes - if only to avoid stinky feet!). There are other types of running socks too, which benefit different people in different ways.

You could also, if you're really interested, get a gait analysis to find out of you overpronate or supinate or whatever, and then you could buy suitable running shoes for walking around the park in (the wet footprint test is not much good).

I would like to add that shoes should never need to be 'broken in' (although, I admit, I'm finding myself doing that with some Puma's I've just bought... fashion!). Runners will always find a brand of shoes where the trainers fit their foot shape well (Nike here).

But, if you do fall in love with a pair of gorgeous shoes that fight your feet, do make sure that they are 'broken in' before you even think about taking them! I intend to wear flip-flops on the flight though... my feet don't swell but I like to have lots of wiggle room on long-haul flights :)

Trainers for me all the way in the parks though - just in case I get super-hyped and break into a sprint or something!
