Going to DC on Nov 30th, but since here in seattle swimming/water gear is only sold in the summer, I need to get all the necessities now.

I have seen recommendations that people wear water shoes (those mesh topped things). Wondering if a TEVA type sandal would be allowed instead?

Thanks to all those who have posted with reports and tips on DC, they have been very helpful. I cannot wait!

Do you mean to wear the sandles in the water or just walking around?
I don`t think it matters what you wear other than in the water, and I would recommend water shoes for that.

Tevas or barefoot are fine for walking around the park. Don't know how they would be for swimming/snorkeling (or if you would even need them). I wish we had brought water shoes for just the "lazy river" part of the park it's about a mile swim/walk river with a current. The rocks in this attraction are really rough, I had to wear a band-aid on one toe for the rest our trip. :D

We had our dolphin swim and day at the cove this past Tuesday, water shoes are a definite must! you can find them at any sporting goods store this time of year, even a Target, K-Mart or Modell's if not buy them in Orlando. I did not wear mine when I came out of the Dolphin Pool and I have stitches in my foot from the really rough rocks. I would however do it again in a heartbeat, I have been all over the world, but that day was in my top 5 of the Best days I have ever had. Stitches and all I would go back tomorrow.

Gosh, that's awful . I'm glad you had a good time, but it must have been terrible to have to get stitches after such a fun experience. I wished we had worn water shoes, but I still think they're a little funny looking.:D

I had no problem with the water shoes, but yes they are ugly, you were not allowed to wear them in the Dolphin Pool. But as I said before, I would do it agin in a heartbeat it was a great day and worth every single penny.

I too just did discovery cove last week and definately recommend the water shoes I have cuts on 3 of my toes :-) Those rocks are rough on the feet!! But still had a great time. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask me.

I have one big scrape on my big toe, ouch! It's been nearly 2 weeks and it still hurts! I had purchased some water shoes, but they were too big. Should have tried them on, but that size always fits. Oh, well... But, yes, you definitely need them!
