With all the Eagles hype around here, I can't help but think to last year. :( I don't follow football, but I remember when the Eagles made it so far last year, then lost, all the fans that had cheered, painted themselves green and acted like complete fools over the team earlier, had left the stadium completely cussing out the team, calling them losers, and so many other things I wouldn't dream of repeating. :earseek: My question is, when other teams lose, do fans totally turn on them?? Whenever I hear someone bashing any sports team that lost, I simply tell them that they should get out there on the field and show them how it's done!

Haven't you heard about the return of Joe Gibbs here! I could just scream everytime I here his name I'm so sick of the Redskins. My husband is a dye hard fan, I could care less. But everyone around here is so moppy and gloomy cause the Redskins have played so bad in the past few years now all of a sudden because Gibbs is back they are going to be a super team and headed right for the Super Bowl in 2005. the day he had his press confrence (Which by the way was on every channel) 2000 people called to put their names in for tickets. I don't think any game was even close to being full this season in less you count the opposing team fans.

I don't think I answered your question but I saw a football thread and had to vent.

But don't worry if the Eagles lose do what we do here and just keep changeing coachs!!

Phildelphia fans are renowned for being tough on their players. They'll cheer you one week and jeer you the next.

I am a raised packer fan and even though they blew the game last week against the Eagles... I still am an avid fan. The first place I go when I visit family in Wisconsin is Shopko to pick up my Packer gear.I have to say that the past few years there hasn't been enough to choose from. When I asked the clerk, he said there wasn't enough demand when they aren't winning. Seems to me they made it into the playoffs that year...

I guess I am a rare breed, as I LOVE watching football and would love it all year round. sorry if I didn't help, but I think once a fan, stay a fan.

Linda

Just for the record, although I can't cheer the Pack, I yell, "GO COLTS!!!"

Phliiy fans do tend to hold those millionaire athletes responsible for their performances. And that will never change.

Having said that, the hype is starting to get on my nerves!!

Around here people are diehards. Yes there are people that give up on the teams, especially the Red Sox, but for the most part they just get really upset when they lose. There have been riots over at UNH several times in the past year, including when their own hockey team dropped the national championship, and when the Red Sox lost so close to the World Series. I think fans anywhere are tough on the players, but Philly seems to be an extreme case.

Welcome to Philly always quiet.

I can't say how glad i am not to have to deal with that stuff anymore. I lived just outside the city till i married in Oct. And it is the same way every year, with every team in the city. It will never change. And if the eagles lose tomorrow, there may well be a bloodbath since this is their 3rd year in a row making the NFC Championship game. They at least have to survive the game and make the Superbowl.

Philly fans are notorious all over the nation. Always have been, always will be.

Only certain weeks ... lol! I live about 20 mins from Charlotte/ Carolina Panthers! The past few weeks there is a certain excitement in the air! :) They even had HUGE pep rally in downtown Charlotte this week for the fans! The mayor talked on tv all week about what he and the Philidelphia mayor are betting on for the game!

What are they betting on Lynette? Rendell used to bet cheese steaks(real ones), But i don't think John Street will bet those anymore.

We're about 2 hours from Charlotte, so it's pretty mellow around here, yes, my husband already has his chair warm and beverage of choice in fridge and DS has Panthers Jersey on, but that's about it. My question for all you Philly fans - is it as rough as everything we hear? We've heard that you better not show up in Panthers colors. Let's all be nice and just enjoy a little rivalry - Where's the spirit?? Oh and by the way - GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!:)

Sometimes it's just the media feeding the frenzy. The Philadelphia press is just as bad as the city fans. I've been to a bunch of Eagles games and it always seems that the media seeks out the loudest, drunkest fans to interview. :( If I based all my judgements by what I've seen on TV, I would never in a million years, take my kids to an Eagles game.

The games I've been to, most people around me have been great and its been fun. Still haven't taken my kids though, because I know those drunken fools are right around the corner.

I've been a diehard Eagles fan all of my life as has my family. We love them when their playing terrible and we love them when they play great.

We will comment on dumb plays and poor playing, but they will always be our favorite team.

People that curse them out and say they hate them are just ridiculous. They will love them again all over next year.
They just live through their football team which is kind of sad.

Last year I was at the Eagles/Giants eastern championship game. There were several people at the game with Giants coats on. Nothing ever happened.

Many people around here are from New York, so it was all over the streets before the game. Never heard of anything happening.

People make a lot of noise about not showing up in another teams colors, but it seems to be just that...noise.

Maureen - Yes! I think it is Lance crackers (we have huge factory here) and also a trip to Charlotte in the new fancy hotel! :) I think that is it! Oh, and Bojangle's Chicken ... not sure why that is being wagered! LOL!

p.s. GO PANTHERS :) :) :)

When the Saints were really bad, Saints fans used to wear paper bags over their heads at the games! Now they just say all of those rude comments, but then again the Saints make really BAD choices and mistakes (the whole cell phone thing!).

I think people in the Carolinas take most things in stride. Im sure you will hear about the occasional fan going berzerk but most are pretty calm. We're just happy to be where we are so far this year. No pre-concieved thoughts of the Panthers going this far, especially after the last few seasons.

GO PANTHERS!!!!

There have been tooo many Panthers fans in a row,

GOOO Eagles!

Philly fans are some of the toughest! As long as I've been around it's always been this way.

When we win, it's euphoria.

But when we lose, you better get outta the way!

Steelers fans used to be pretty tough in the day. I think they were the last NFL team to get cheerleaders, because they tried and they were booed and things were thrown at them. So they stopped having them for their own safety.

But seriously the Vet used to be the only NFL stadium to have a magistrate in it. I assume they moved it to the new stadium. Another words fans are so rowdy they get arrested and arraigned right at the stadium.

Gotta love the Philly fans.

We Steelers fans don't need cheerleaders because we're die hard! ;) I think I was taught from the moment I got out of the womb to cheer the Steelers no matter how terribly they're doing in a particular season. :) I went to one of the last games of the season (and for those of you who follow the NFL, you know what that meant for Steelers fans) and the stadium was still packed and going nuts even though we knew there was no playoff hope at all. I just don't know what to do without football for the next few months!! YIKES!!! Good luck on the Super Bowl for both teams! It should be a good game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have never had cheerleaders. Except for one year when the team was pretty new, I believe in the 50's. The Rooney's have stated they will never have cheerleaders as long as they own the team. Steeler fans are very diehard. We may talk trash. But year after year our stadium is sold out. Even without a Superbowl win since the 70's, the waiting list for season tickets is 10 years or more. And season ticket holders take up 97% of Heinz Field.
