or anyone that can help me. Im trying to arrange a special Christmas present for my hubby, i want to take him to Barcelona for a weekend and go to a football match at the Nou Camp (sp?). I would like to take him to the game on the 13th April next year, this is Barcelona v Deportivo. My hubby is a BIG footie fan and as this stadium is meant to be the best in the world i thought it would be a really nice surprise.

My problems which i need your help with are:

Where is the main airport in Barcelona?

Where is the football stadium?

Do you know of a good website to purchase the tickets from?(ive found a couple but would prefer to go by a recommendation)

Can you recommend a nice hotel?

Where would you recommend us staying as we havent been there before although we've heard that Port Olymipia (sp?) is meant to be nice?

How far is Port O from the Nou Camp?

Do you think this would be a good gift?

I know that there are a lot of questions here, but i dont know where else to go for help.

Thanks for any bits of info you can give me.

Emma

Emma, my sister lives near to Barcelona with her DH and family. If you do not get all the info that you need feel free to pm me and I'll get in touch with her and get her to answer all your questions. Carolyn

My work make comes from Barcelona - and has a season ticket!

PM me with any specifics you may need.

My hubby went to Barcelon this year to watch Liverpool , so PM me if you cant get the info you need.

They flew into to France and then caught the train to Spain.

If youre hubby loves footie as much as mine does hell love it as a gift.

Not much help but ill have to ask hubby for all the details on his trip.

I'm afraid I can't help with any of your questions, but you should also try to visit the stadium during the day. I went a few years ago, and even though I can't stand football, I had a really nice time. There's quite a big football museum inside the stadium, and we got to watch the team train, and meet the players afterwards. It was all really interesting stuff. :)

I went on a tour of the Nou Camp stadium in May 1995. It was brill, I'm sure Matt will LOVE this trip.

I went with a group of friends to Barcelona for a long weekend in February this year and had a brilliant time. We flew with Go from Stanstead which was both very handy and cheap! We stayed in a lovely hotel just off the Ramblas which is the main street that has loads of stalls, mime artists etc. We did a walking tour which took in loads of sights like the Gaudi Gardens, famous Gaudi buildings and the Sagrada Familia - the breathtaking cathedral (still being built) with the pepperpot turrets which you can climb up to get fantastic views. Parc Guell is beautiful too. There are a few cablecars/funicular railways that take you up to other good viewpoints eg. Montjuic. There are loads of fantastic Tapas bars and fish restaurants. It was very easy to get a train from the airport to the city centre and you can buy a daily rail ticket very cheaply.

The hotel was the RIALTO
FERRANT 40-42
08002 BARCELONA
SPAIN

We booked it through www.octopustravel.com and got a great deal.

We had a terrific trip and will certainly be visiting again in the near future.
PM me if you would like any more info.

How far is Port O from the Nou Camp?

From there, she could go to the Nou Camp by tube, taking the Yellow line from "Ciutadella-Vila Olimpica", changing to the Green line at "Passeig de Gracia", and from there, taking a Green line tube until "Les Corts" or "Palau Reial". ( check the attached pdf tube-map http://www.tmb.net/img/genplano.pdf )

Where is the main airport in Barcelona? The main Airport (the only one), is called "El Prat" Airport, and it is 16km south from the city. A Taxi will cost you less than 30€ from the Airport to the Olympic Village

Where is the football stadium? The football Stadium is in the quarter called "Les Corts". Good access via TUBE (Green line)

Do you know of a good website to purchase the tickets from? (I’ve found a couple but would prefer to go by a recommendation) Some english/international websites sell tickets in advance. There is no other way to buy tickets in advance. The club sells tickets just 3/4 days before the match. I confirm that 13th of April (maybe the 12th) is the day for the FC Barcelona / Deportivo.

Can you recommend a nice hotel? The "Olympic Village" (Vila Olimpica), is a nice area, and it has a nice Hotel called Hotel Arts (http://www.ritzcarlton.com/hotels/barcelona/)

Where would you recommend us staying, as we haven’t been there before although we've heard that Port Olympia is meant to be nice?
Port Olimpic is nice to have seafood dinners and going out. But the city has much more to be seen. Click on this links to study a bit more about the city

Do you think this would be a good gift? No doubt about that!

Thank You so much Bonzo! This is excellent information, everyone has been such a great help. I will let you know who my plans pan out.
