Foot Recognition Technology at Disney World

Not going away. As Reetz said in another thread, Disney files patents all the time for ideas they have and do not use. Plus, DL does not have Magic Bands so they could use the technology there.

That foot/shoe idea is just creepy. Also, I don't wear the same shoes every day. I hope this idea doesn't take off.

It will just drive prices even higher. Technology costs money. That cost will be passed along to guests. If they want to increase guest spending while at the parks and resorts, lower the prices to where they are affordable! $3.00 for water and $4.95 for a Power Aid is ridiculous. Not to mention the room prices are out of control. I love Disney World but the price gouging and nickle and diming you for everything just turns me off.

This is apparently a way to capture those who don't wear the bands because they don't get them free or just plain don't wish to wear them.

If you want to subvert this one, maybe bring along a change of shoes?

They are too recent and they spent to much to get rid of them so quick. In my opinion.

I read rteez's input first about Disney filing patents all the time (moreso to prevent other companies from having the technology in the future) without intentions of necessarily using them BEFORE I read the articles (as there are a few out there). As usual the media is making it sound like Disney is jumping on this kinda weird way of tracking people as a sure thing because a patent was filed.

When I read the article I wasn't interpreting it as magicbands go in the trash now. I mean taking pictures of your shoes doesn't translate well into opening your door to your resort room. I believe the intent, if it ever gets used, is a more wide-spread way of "enhancing" a guest's experience by giving individual time (outside of a meet and greet) with characters kinda what people invision WDW is after seeing the commericals of the characters running out/interacting with them. The Forbes article also about maybe sending photos to people quicker? I guess I'm trying to figure out how the technology will do that when a specific guest is in a very croweded area; same with the character. But in my mind I'm filing this away for now.

Magicbands aren't going anywhere. $2+ billion spent on them. This is a patent Disney filed but we don't know if they have any intention of using it. Something Disney files these patents and never uses it.

I wonder if this can be used to stop child abductions in Disney World. They say the kidnappers usually change a child's whole outfits except for their sneakers. This whole plan could be just for these purposes, but Disney doesn't want to freak people out so they're saying it's for something else.

Yes, I can see this as a supplement to Magic Bands. People have a choice with Magic Bands. This could be a way to track those who choose not to wear them.

Has anyone ever seen real reports of a DW child abduction? Just curious. The shoe part seems to be fake: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/kidnap.asp.

I totally don't believe that site, when it comes to this one. Disney would probably come out and say that it has never happened, if it hasn't. Even if it's untrue there have been incidences in the real world where it has.

John Walsh's son got abducted in Florida and all they found of him was his head. This is what led him to become the host of America's Most Wanted. If it can happen in the Real World it can happen in Disney World.

Also, the reason for Code Adam at Walmart.
