Anyone else have foot pain when you first wake up in the morning? It cant be my shoe because I have the pain no matter what shoes I wore the day before. It hurts real bad to walk down the stairs in the morning, pain goes away probably 10 15 mins later...

I had that all the time when I worked in retail. Plantar fasciitis is to blame. I ended up having a few Cortisone shots done by my foot doctor and a little physical therapy.

Yup, plantar fascitis! It hurts like heck! Before you get up in the morning stretch your foot. Ice it at night before going to bed, and take Ibuprofen. I just bought a foot brace to wear at night that keeps the foot stretched out at night. You might need to get some orthotic inserts for your shoes. That is what helped me out in the end.

There is a ton of information on line, good luck!

ITA!! I had the same thing! Doc gave me a script for meds..basically a stronger Motrin..NSAIDS...

Same thing here - except it wasn't plantar fasciitis - it was a heel spur. It's actually a small, sharp piece of bone protruding from the heel inside your foot. I got orthotics (special inserts for your shoes) and they help a lot. I live barefoot, so that's part of the problem. Cortisone injections in my foot have helped as well, and a lot of ibuprofen!

This is the main cause and correction, works 99% of the time

My good PF story?

Worked with a doc. Told him my feet hurt in the AM, got anything I can take?

Orders an Xray. Sure enough, PF, big time.

Get fitted for the orthotics.

By the time they got delivered, PF gone.

Got it again in 2003 for about 6 months.

Haven't had a visit from the PF fairy since.

PF can come and go. Hope yours goes!:thumbsup2

I am part of that 1% that is incurable. I say that not to scare you but to tell you that you need to go to a Podiatrist and get it looked at and have it monitored. I am proof that if you don't go and think it will get better, it may not. The advice you have gotten here is all correct, but please just make sure you see a doctor.

Had PF big time (thought that was the same as a heel spur)? Changed my sneakers and it went away. I was wearing Sketchers and found out they are the single worst sneaker anyone can wear, at least according to my doctor. ;) Started wearing Nike's and the problem went away. Now I've got other foot issues due to fallen arches and pronating, but that's another thread for another time. :thumbsup2

I've been having it for awhile. Not in my heel, though. Mine is in my arch and sometimes it moves around to the side of the arch and around to the top of the foot.

Yup - exactly! I did the exact same thing except for the foot brace. The custom orthotics were awesome and made the recovery quicker, IMHO.

I had this problem a while back. Even with good shoes you can get this. Try buying some insoles that they sell in the store..the gel type...that might help.

Also, my doctor had me in the morning take a can of soup or something hard and round and rotate the bottom of my foot on it back and forth..helped alot.

Yup, PF, but only at Disney World. I guess I don't do all that walking anywhere else.

try freezing a water bottle and rolling it back and forth with the bottom of your foot. it ices the area and really does make it feel better.

Your problem sounds like PF. It really hurts doesn't it. I have this off and on and discussed it with my doctor. He gave me some foot stretching exercises to do before getting up in the morning and some shoe recommendations. I have flat feet also, so my recommendations may be very different to yours. I've not needed the shoe inserts or the shots. I will say that if my weight goes over a certain point I really have a PF flare. Dropping 5-10 pounds and it clears up quickly. Again, this is my experience--not implying you have any weight issues.

That sounds like you may have falling arches. The pain in the side of the arch could be your posterior (SP) tibial tendon. That is what is happening to me at this point. The pain is intense. tendonitis. I am wearing custom orthodics to the tune of $350. I am on my feet all day at work which does not help. If I have 2 or 3 days off in a row my feet feel so much better, but once I go back to work the pain starts all over again. The foot Doc said that there is an operation that could correct the arches, but I looked it up on line. I do not want to go there. Not pretty. I am hoping that the orthodics calm my feet down. Good luck to you.

Holy moly! PF is a huge pain! Get to a podiatrist for treatment. I am currently in Physical Therapy for PF & got trans-dermal cortisone instead of the shots. I received ultrasound treatments and massage too. Also wearing the night splint every night. I need to get better before our trip to WDW in Dec!

This sounds like plantar fasciitis. I got plantar fasciitis last year -- it came on about three weeks before we left for Disney. I was having a very hard time walking up and down the stairs in my house -- it was worse first thing in the morning.

I think I got it because I wore flip-flops almost non-stop. I paid the price.

You know what helped me 100%??? CROCS. I wore Crocs and got around just fine at Disney, pain-free. Now they're almost the only thing I wear.

It's worth a try! I've heard mixed reviews about those expensive orthotics. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

I started having PF issues last Decemeber. I'm pretty sure it was brought on from bad sneakers and from wearing flip flops all over WDW for 5 days :sad2:I did go to the Dr..he gave me cortisone shots, some sort of straps to wear around my arches for support (I have very high arches) exercises, the night splint to wear, and an antinflammatory pill. He kept trying to talk me into orthotics which my insurance doesn't cover, so I declined them. I am on my feet a lot at work (retail) which doesn't help.

all these things helped reduce the pain quite a bit...but it still flares up now and then. I also stopped running on the treadmill and switched to an elliptical (but now that's bothering my knee...can't win!) and switched back to Nike sneakers.

We went to Disney for 5 days last month and the only thing I could wear was my Teva sport sandals....awesome arch support. I had more than the usual stiffness in the morning while we were there, but it was temporary.

I try to make sure I get shoes with decent arch support now since shoes with little support seems to set it off. Good luck....it's not fun
