I am having a foot problem and I am not really sure how to describe it, but I am hoping that by giving a brief description someone may know what is going on. For the last couple of nights I have been having cramps out of the blue in my feet and all of a sudden my foot will start posturing in a strange position. The foot will look all arthritic and stuck in a strange pose and the pain will be pretty intense. I've had it happen out of the blue a couple of times in my life, but never more than one and never more than one day in row. Any thoughts?

Do you need potassium? Eat a banana tonight and see if that helps!

I don't know, but I did have a banana for a snack this afternoon and just had a foot cramp a little while ago. I do take a muti-vitamin and eat at least 2 fruits a day, so I am not sure if that is the case. But I will try eating more bananas and see. Thanks.

I know exactly what your talking about. It happens to me every now and then for 1 or 2 nights. I haven't had it in a while, but I know from your description what your referring to. My foot kind of arches and some of my toes get all bent looking. I don't know what causes it, but, I found that when it happens I get out of bed and stand on the tile in my bathroom. The coldness of the tile helps and after a few minutes I walk very easily back to bed. I noticed that when it happens its nighttime and I'm in bed. I just chalked it up to a charley horse in my foot instead of my calf....

DH says its from not enough Calcium/Magnesium...so, have bananas (potassium) and milk (calcuim). :goodvibes

That's the best contribution I can give.

Good Luck!!
(good to see you Tiggerlover!! :p )

Exactly!!! Normally the cold floor helps, but last night it wasn't, that is why I started worrying.

Hi Michelle.

I will try having some milk, thanks.

I am open to trying anything at this point.

I get these all the time....the potassium does not help me...mine is due to meds I am on. I get them all the way up to my hips..I also get onto the cold floor.

i've been having the same problem you have for the last week or two i can't bend my toes backwards or push them towards the inside of my foot without getting one, and even when i'm not doing anything i still get them not just at night and a few times i've woke up with a cramp in my thigh...

i will try eating some more of these  and see if it helps me

thanx for the advice

I get them in my toes. It hurts like crazy. It goes away if I stand on my tippy toes and basically bend them back in place.

Quinine helps with leg and foot cramps. There used to be pills but they are no longer available without a prescription. Quinine is in tonic water (blech!) and bitter lemon (tolerable). It really does work!

Have had the exact cramps you describe. My toes will spread apart and a couple of them will almost stick straight up! I can usually walk them out. My mom use to have the same problem. I think she once told me it was from a lack of potassium.

It could also be a bit of dehydration, drink an extra glass of water or two. It could also be from ill fitting shoes or shoes that aren't supportive enough. If you are wearing flats to work and standing all day, that can cause foot problems. Wearing flip flops or even worse, mule/slide on shoes, can cause problems too. If you are wearing tennis shoes that are over a year or two old, that could be an issue too. How is the arch support in your shoe? That could cause cramping as well.

I always got foot and leg cramps when I was pregnant, is that a possibility?

I find that I get those cramps when I am dehydrated. I have to keep drinking lots of fluids to stop them.

I get it and it's a calcium & magnesium imbalance. They do sell Quinine tablets at health food stores. It's made by Hyland's and called "Leg Cramps with Quinine" and they also make a foot cream that is helpful too.

cramping can be caused by new shoes, low magnesium or potassium or vitamin E, also dehydration can cause them. drink loads of water, eat watermelon(more potassium than bananas) and take a vitamin with plenty of E, some have very little or none. Have someone massage your feet well. Could be you have some facia damage and it's slipping off the muscle allowing the cramp.

Thanks for the Quinine pill tip. I haven't been able to get them in drug stores for years. My Doc says the real heavy duty ones need a prescription. He said my cramps aren't severe enough.

Is there any possibility that you're diabetic? Other symptoms would include excessive urination and tiredness.

That is the only time I got these. Was wondering this myself.

Obviously a man that doesn't suffer from foot cramps. :thumbsup2
