I see them on QVC all the time and think it would be great for me with ALL the baking I do. And I plan on doing a garden this year. AND I often go to the supermarket and see chicken is cheaper if you buy in bulk. So do you own one? Pros? Cons? Love it? Hate it? Dish!

I had one, but the expense of the bags became too much. I would even reuse the ones I stored breads in (just trim the sealed edge) Now I just wrap in foil and bag or double bag, both meats and baked goods. I keep my freezer in constant rotation and never really have problems with freezer burn, so I sold mine - the constant expense wasn't worth the results.

I don't know if you know this, but if you go to QVC.com, you can read hundreds of reviews about the food saver. They actually have one of the most reliable customer feedback programs I've ever encountered. Anyway, it's rated 4.5 out of 5 stars.

i have one and love it. I shop at costco so being able to freeze stuff is important and the foodsaver keeps food from being freezer-burned.
Peach

Love mine, I buy a knock brand of the plastic rolls online and they work great. You can reseal other types of bags too, cereal bags, chip bags, frozen veggie bags. I love using it for that too!

I have had one for 6 years now and use it on a regular basis. I buy meat in bulk at SAMS and love it. I also use it for sealing chip bags and cookie bags. When we travel I make small snack bags. Saves buying snack on the road and keeps everything fresh.

You can also use the Foodsaver to vacuum out the air from mason jars when you store meats, cheeses or dry goods in them with a small, inexpensive adapter. It eliminates the need for bags in most circumstances except freezing. It certainly makes the Foodsaver more economical to use.

I LOVE my food saver. I get my bags at Costco, they sometimes have a coupon for them. Also, get the jar lid attachment and you can vacuum in regular mason jars. And as mentioned, it works great for sealing bags of chips and the like. I use mine about once a week.

I got one just over 8 years ago and it never gets used now. The sealing part doesn't work half the time and the goop in it is just not worth it any more. Besides, we are a 3 person family and don't buy in bulk much. We have the jars to seal as well but we never use them. We use the OXO sealing jars instead. They are much easier and stack better in the cabinets.

I bought one thinking I would use it all the time, but don't.

But there are times when I buy something in bulk (usually something expensive like Parmigiana Reggiano cheese or pecans) that I use it and it is nice knowing that it will last much longer because it is sealed.

We have one...I'm still warming up to it.

I like to cook a lot of soups, stews and things with gravy/sauce. The foodsaver is kind of a pain for storing anything like that since you have to freeze it first, then put it in the foodsaver.

We have used a vacuum sealer for probably 15 years. My Mom and Sisters use theirs too. We use the so much that eventually the heating element burns out and it's time for a new model. Would not be without a food sealer!

I use mine all the time. greatest money ever spend. we buy meat and bulk. I buy the off brand rolls and make my own size bags from walmart

DH got me one for Christmas a few years ago (on sale + 30% off with a coupon at Kohls). It wasn't something that I ever thought about, but I love it. I'm a big meat shopper at Sam's Club early in the morning when they have the sell by date reduced. I take it home and package it into meal size portions. I've also used it for frozen veggies from our garden. I cut them up first. When I needs some peppers, I will cut the bag right at the edge and take out what I need. 95% of the time, I'm able to re-seal the same bag and put it back into the freezer.

DH got me a marinating dish a few years ago (from Bass Pro Shop I think). We use that A LOT. This year he got me some containers that you use in the fridge for deli meat. I use them a lot as well. He did get the hand held vacuum this year because neither containers need to heat seal and he didn't want that part to burn out on the main unit.

I don't know which one(s) they sell on QVC but there are quite a few to choose from. I've seen them everywhere from Menards, Kohls, Target, Meijer, WalMart... Mine is FoodSaver® V2450.

I keep it right in my island cabinet so it's easy to get to.

I use mine all the time for soup. I put it at the edge of the counter and DH holds the bottom of the bag while I put the top of the bag in and seal it. I freeze them flat so there's very little air that gets in.

I have one. I still buy in bulk and freeze garden vegetables, but I just use zipper type bags anymore. I found my time (cut the bag to the right size, put in the product, put it in the machine, wait for the air to be vacuumed out, wait for heat seal to be made) was more important. I rotate food in the freezer and lose almost nothing to freezer burn, so that benefit was not there for me. Not a waste if you use it and a very reliable product. But, not worth the purchase in my home.

Love mine! I've been using one for years and can't imagine not having one. I use for:

1. buy meat in bulk, divide up and vac - wll last (without freezer burn) for a
year.
2. Cook ground beef and chicken (seperatelyLOL) put portions in vac bags to
use for a quick meal fix; such as chili, taco's, chicken and noodles
(homemade). All kinds of dishes...having the meat precooked saves time.
3. I often make extra of whatever I'm cooking for dinner, everything from stir
-fry's to smothered steak. I then use frozen meal trays that I've saved to
put a meal portion in, freeze that, then vac seal it. Tastes like fresh
everytime...DH almost always says "this tastes like you just made it.
4. I grow a variety of peppers every summer and in the fall I pick peppers
and slice/dice them according to what I'm going to use them for. For
instance, I'll do certain peppers for chili and different peppers for stir frys,
then I vac seal them and label them accordingly.

Love my vac seal!

Ditto on both of these points. It's a keeper in our house!
