I was reading the menus and it looks like at just about every restaurant, the most adventurous meal on the kids' menu is chicken strips. Will Disney restaurants do up child portions of food on the grownup menu? If they do, will it be covered on the dining plan?

Some of the menus do offer fish and steak and I have seen a few chicken dishes as well as some pastas, tacos, and quesadillas. This was also a concern for me as my kids will burn out on mac n cheese and dislike pbj Uncrustables but if you check into it further you will find some alternatives to chicken nuggets. :thumbsup2

Nope, they won't. You can purchase them an adult meal and have them split it, but you'll have to use your adult TS credit or pay OOP.

I just wanted to say that I totally hear your gripe and feel the same way. My toddler doesn't eat "kid" food at home and quite honestly doesn't like it.

When we ate at Marakest (morocco) at Epcot I ordered Moroccan Meatballs thinking it would be ethnic tasting--but it was just regular old spaghetti and meatballs (and messy :))
We had a great dinner at Jiko and the kids grilled salmon w/ mashed pot and veggies was great. He also did well eating the 1/2 chicken items from counter service restaurants but those were adult portions. At the taco restaurant at MK he ate black beans that we spiced up with tomaotes, cheese et al from the toppings bar. Good luck!

I have the same concern. My daughter is only 17 months old but she likes to eat more "adult" foods. Our last trip she was small enough to eat off of our plates for some meals where they weren't offering much in the way of kid's meals (she loved the chicken and lamb shawarma platter at Morrocco - it is huge so easily shareable!) and she did eat grilled chicken several times. Don't get me wrong, she would be willing to eat mac n cheese or chicken fingers every day if that is all that is available! We will make sure to look at the menus before our next trip so she can have a variety of foods. :thumbsup2

I can not eat all of the entree so I will share with my dd as she like to eat real food also.

You can order some items off the adult menu and ask for a 1/2 portion
It won't be covered under the meal plan though

What we used to do with our daughter, when she was younger, (who is a foodie by the way) was to order something off the adult appetizer menu and then add a salad or a soup and that was plenty for her

We had this same issue. My kids love a more adult menu. Consequently we booked several buffets so they could order whatever they wanted. We also did a couple of family style restaurants for the same reason. If you look over menus you may find a few restaurants that have a more varied kid menu. Last Sept. I believe Maya Grill had kids steak. I think there was another place that had fish? Whispering Canyon had a kids BBQ skillet which a couple of my girls liked.

Our DD is a real "kids food snob"- she doesn't eat hamburgers, hot dogs, mac 'n cheese, fries, chicken fingers, or pb&j sandwiches. We usually order 2 adult entrees and 3 drinks, and that will feed the 3 of us quite well (sometimes we add an appetizer, sometimes not). Especially at WDW, where we don't want to have extra food left over- we don't need to carry around doggie bags in the FL heat.

We did the DDP one time, when it was free. We liked it, but we ended up not using just about any of DD's meals. Mostly, we shared CS and TS meals, except for buffets.

I had the same concerns. My son will eat all of the usual kids stuff but sometimes he wants grilled salmon or other adult fare. We looked at some WDW recipes at Allears.net, and he wants to try the chicken and wild mushroom pasta with asiago cream sauce from Crystal Palace when we go. Luckily, that is a buffet, so he will be able to choose whatever he wants. My daughter would be happy with a corn dog or grilled cheese at every meal. Hopefully we will find something for all of our tastes. We are doing the DDP.

They are called chicken strips but are actually grilled chicken if your kids will eat that. Many restuarants also offered grilled fish for kids. Both these meals came with brown rice and veggies. If this was the best of the kids choices for your kids you could probably request an adult sauce on the side to make the grilled fish/chicken taste more interesting.

The kid's menu at WDW restaurants are dismally unimaginative as well as at many non Disney restaurants. Now that my kids are teens I don't have that issue anymore but when they were little they either ate off of our plate or we ordered an adult meal which they split.

ITA I think Disney needs to tweak the kids menus a bit more so they have a better variety of things for kids to choose from. It can get really tiring eating chicken fingers , mac and cheese, and pbj,all the time. At least offer some more inventive recipes to serve the grilled, chicken, fish,or steak. My kids are foodies too, they like all kinds of adult foods like sushi and raw and fried oysters. We went out for Mother's Day dinner last night since DH is working weekends to our favorite restaraunt on the Eastern Shore here in MD and the waitress commented that she had never seen a child order and eat fried oysters before :rotfl: .

Blessed Be,
Tina
