We went to opening day at the Festival, and it was AWESOME!!!!!!! Loved the food in Mexico, India and Turkey the best. I also loved the salmon in Canada and the quiche in France. The lamb slider in New Zeland was also really good. The lobster rolls in USA were overrated and over priced. The buffalo in Oklahoma was almost RAW. I like sushi and medium rare meats.....but this was so undercooked I was scared to eat it. It was fatty too. I suggest not spending your money on it. The credit card machine were malfunctioning and most stations only took cash. So if you go, bring CASH! I saw hundreds of people being told after waiting in line that they only took cash. The lines were not bad. LOVED EVERY GLASS OF WINE!!!! Have a blast, we did!!! ENJOY:thumbsup2

thanks for the review - had heard last year the lobster roll was a bit overpriced and not much lobster meat in it then, either

My sister and I were there for the first day as well. My sister was so insistent on being in WS right when it opened. And once it did half the booths either were not open or did not have their food yet so we missed out on Mexico, China and Ireland. Then she did not want to wait for the start of the History of Beer, which I wanted to do.

I too had the lobster roll and it tasted like my mom's imitation crab salad. Plus I found a piece of lobster shell in it. At least the seafood is fresh right?

If you go I highly recommend the tea garden in the UK. They have 4 varieties of Twinings tea on ice. A refreshing treat on a hot, humid day. I had the mandarin and my sister had the Lady Grey. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for the early reviews, all. The iced tea sounds wonderful - can't wait to try it.

Can anyone tell me if they are doing the beer school in the UK again this year? We've seen no mention and hubby is quite unhappy...

I had
canada- salmon, good but too much maple
new zealand- seafood salad, just ok
austrailia-shrimp on the barbie, great
africa-chicken skewer, bad
poland-pierogie and sausage-ok

I did not see any indication of it happening.

We were there on 9/27 for the "soft opening." We didn't realize they did this a day early, so we were pretty happy we would be able to try a few things.

We had the chicken sha cha (chicken on a stick with peanut sauce) at the China booth. It was okay. They use dark meat and pound it out flat before putting it on a stick. A couple of the bites had a grissle-type texture. The man working at the cash register wasn't too helpful in explaining what the dish was, either. Overall, we're glad we got to try it.

Germany was excellent. DH had the sausage with kraut in the pretzel roll, and I had the spaetzle with creamy mushroom ragout. The mushroom ragout had huge mushrooms in it. Both dishes were amazing. We would both order full meals of the stuff if we could have.

That was it for us. Like I said, we didn't know they even did a soft opening the day before, and we'd already eaten a full meal at Tangerine Cafe by the time we noticed the booths and tents were actually open for business!

Enjoy :)

While we've been lots of times, we've never been to the Food and Wine Festival. This time, it's just Nick and I going beginning on November 3rd for our 25th wedding anniversary, ...so if there is one thing that would be really special to do (and pay extra for), we would love to know what it is!

Thanks!
