Food & Wine Festival Dilemma

I'm taking my 15 year old nephew to WDW for his upcoming 16th birthday. He'll be 16 at the end of November. We will be there 10/5-10/13. My sister is coming along as well. We arrive on a Friday night and are leaving the following Saturday afternoon.

My sister and I want to do Party for the Senses at the Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT which only happens on Saturdays. So our only opportunity to attend this event will be 10/6 which is our first full official day at WDW.

My dilemma is my nephew. Do we leave him alone to fend for himself on his first full day at WDW while we attend Party for the Senses (selfish, I know)? Do we bring him along with us and if so, will he permitted to attend since he's underage? Or do we take one for the team and not attend Party for the Senses at all?

Opinions wanted and appreciated!!!

I don't know if he will be allowed at PFTS or not, but if he is I would take him along.
If not, I would take one for the team... Unless there is a hint that he wants to get away and do his own thing for a while. Perhaps he wants to do Mission Space seven times in a row, or Test Track, or some other stuff you may not do with him anyway. That would be the perfect opportunity. :smokin:

What does your nephew think? Teenagers are all different.
My son would have been fine with staying around the resort and/or pool for one night with Mom out of his hair. Or, he would have been fine trying different foods at PFTS even though I think it's quite costly for just the food. He's 21 now and still not going to PFTS with us but he'll have his wife to keep him company!;)

Now, my nephew would have never, ever stayed by himself and would have been a total waste of money at the event. So in his case, we wouldn't attend at all.

Would bringing another cousin or close friend the same age or older be out of the question??
It may be worth the extra bucks as a birthday gift for him in adding a partner in crime for him. This would take all the entertainment heat off both of you so you two could really enjoy the F&W fest and, add to his enjoyment by not having to always hang around the two of you the whole time.
You would have to determine how out going the two of them are going to be though. You wouldn't want to deal two non out going type kids that needed your constant attention, that could really put a dampener on a good time.

Just make sure one or both has a phone and you will never see either of them till they get hungry or run out of money.

I know at 16 I was off driving the car all day long. With no intention of spending time with my parents and with no cell phone. EEEKKKK

Key point has he been to Disney before and does he know his way around???

One of the first things my 16-year old DS wants to do is go to DisneyQuest for 3-4 hours. He has no problem going by himself! If your Nephew likes video/interactive games, this might be a good solution.

I was thinking of that idea. We're staying at Old Key West which is not far from Dowtown Disney. My only concern is that he hasn't been to WDW since he was really little, so in a way this is like is first time. Plus the day we want to go to the F & W Festival is the first day of the trip and he won't know is way around yet.

I guess I'll just check with him and see how he feels about it.

As far as I know you can take him to PFTS. He will not be given a wine glass, but he can eat all he wants. Does he like fancy food?
