Unfortunately this seems to be the norm at all
DVC resorts these days. Peeps be lazy. If we have more trash than will fit in our waste baskets (or like you said, food) we will take it to the trash room or outside w/us and find an outside trash can.
I don't think people are lazy.
It makes me sad when I see it. There is no need.
I wasn't sad nor was I angry.
A few years ago (pre-covid) I was staying at CCV and couldn't find the trash room. I asked at the front desk and they refused to tell me. It was odd. They said I should call housekeeping if I had trash.
I did not leave trash in the hall. But I'm not sure everyone staying in DVC rooms knows that the trash rooms exist or where they are.
They probably didn't even know there was a trash room.
In fairness whenever I stay in a hotel I leave my room service tray/bag outside my room when done. I in turn expect the hotel as part of my stay to collect my trash
it is entirely possible the people doing this are cash guests and not dvc owners. Eg they are actually in a hotel room
but that was insanely nice of you to pick that trash up. Above and beyond mate
I understand the room service tray and when I stay in a full service hotel or anywhere that brings me a tray with dishes and cutlery, I expect the hotel to send someone to retrieve it, either from the room or in the hallway, and in some cases I've been told to put it in the hall or to call when done.
To be honest, I would not have picked it up if it hadn't been so easy to use a tissue around the handles on the bag. And I would never touch a room service tray. But this was easy. I am going on the assumption that the people did not know that there was a trash room, and also that they weren't sloppy, lazy and felt it would be gathered up by staff, as you should expect in a normal hotel.
We were told by housekeeping at Kidani that if we had trays/dishes from Mara to put them outside on the floor in the hallway and someone would pick them up.
Yes. I believe this is told to people often. Trays and dishes can't be just dumped in a trash can. I picked up a larger brown shopping bag with handles that had visible food inside. It was pushed to right by my door.
At Boardwalk in August, I was also not told where a trash room was and they sent housekeeping immediately to empty our trash. I offered to take it somewhere, but they wouldn't tell me either! I suppose I could have spent some vacation time finding the room, but since they sent someone right away, I didn't need to.
If I had seen a door I would have taken the trash there. Maybe the people were clueless? Look at how many people walk with their heads in their phones.
I own at Boardwalk and trash and recycle is not that easy to find in the long halls. Right now I can't remember where it is in the different sections. The only thing I'm sure about is where the laundry is and how to get out the back door to my car! But I know they have the rooms as I have used them and usually I'll spot it depending on my location at some point while walking through the halls. And asking a question is almost pointless! So much turnover in staff and probably the CM that cleans the room/empties the trash really knows for sure.
This is normal at hotels, even really nice ones. I don’t see the big deal.
Sure it is for trays and dishes. The high end hotels I frequent will almost always tell me to call to have my tray and table retrieved.
The big deal is smell, dirt, pests being attracted.
I stayed at Poly in January. I called the front desk to request trash pickup. They told me to put it outside my door and someone would be right over to get it. We left it outside right after that conversation. We then went out to dinner and watched fireworks. Hours later when we got back it was still there!

I was embarrassed. So just some food for thought maybe they were instructed to leave it there just like I was.
Absolutely! There's no doubt that's what they said from the call center employee that answered stating they were the front desk. Your call was given a swift disposition as it was not an emergency that needed to be addressed by an actual front desk employee.
An example of this: my internet didn't work. I left the room to go to the front desk. Outside my door I encountered an employee and stopped to ask him if he knew whether the net was down or anything. My neighbors in the next room were just leaving and they joined in the conversation. They said no internet in their room for the past week. They had called and complained several times. I continued to the desk. Internet was restored in less than two hours when a tech was dispatched to my room to check the router and the area in my room where the access point is. (you are welcome, neighbors!)
Meanwhile we were moved (we had just checked in) to a room in another part of the building with a different router, I guess it was. We had to have stable internet the next day for zoom meetings, etc, for my daughter and the tech wasn't sure the connection using that particular piece of equipment would hold. (Don't ask me the technical details, I'm no expert, just an end user.) But the gist was something really needed replacing. Didn't have to make a fuss, it was handled professionally and flawlessly. The call center may have put in a service call and left it at that. The front desk made sure the problem got resolved, and took further steps.
It is not my point to embarrass anyone, unless they deserve to be embarrassed - ie - they go out of their way to create a mess!
Many people don't know there is an actual spot to dispose of trash. Especially now that we have the fako trash service security checks. The trash is the excuse to get in the room, and it is mostly a good thing as someone gets some of your trash, and they will give you service as well if requested when they come.
So, now we know asking where the trash room is doesn't really work often, but at this point they still exist and if you are like me and don't want smelly trash in your room or outside your door, at least at Poly DVC, they are very close to the elevators/ice machines/snack machines.
This was my first trip back since Feb 2020 and it was wonderful to enjoy the Poly resort again. I don't go there often anymore, but before DVC, it was my first and favorite place. Now I have lots of favorites but always a soft spot in my heart for Poly.
