Like food that maybe your family eats a lot, but your friends kinda go wth when you mention it.
Food that's popular in your city, state/province/or whatever that's not really popular anywhere else.

For example, my mum makes these cookies that are called spider cookies at Xmas. They're chow mein noodles that are covered in melted chocolate chips (and butterscotch chips) and peanuts. They're absolutely delicious. My friends, didn't even know what a chow mein noodle looked like, let alone what those cookies were.

I don't know... we have alot of traditional meals like Shepherds Pie, Chilli Con Carne, One Dish Meal, etc. but i think others eat them too :p

Well I've only heard one out of the three you mentioned. xD
Obviously some other people eat them, but there's probably tons of us DISers who don't eat those meals.

I eat some Polish food that my friends have never had.
Kielbasa.
Pierogies.

Perogies confuse me.
I mean, what is in them? What do they taste like?
I watch so many weight loss shows (I get bored) and it seems like every person on there is obsessed with them.
But I have no idea what they are.

Right now I am OBSESSED with babaganouj (it's a roasted eggplant dip)
it is the greatest invention in the world.
I also really loooove hummus (on pitas, or sandwiches, or bread or what have ou). :lovestruc

And I eat a LOT of vietnamese food (strange considering I am in no way shape or form, vietnamese) but there's this family-owned restaurant in my neigbourhood that's got really authentic home-cooked vietnamese food and it's like NOTHING you can get at the store, or the manadrin, or any other asian food restaurant.

oh also! i know they're not uncommon, but I don't know alot of people who eat grapefruits....i eat one a day. lol

My dad makes spider cookies too, just alittle different. It is the chow mein noodles, with butterscotch chips. there sooo yummy. My granma makes Fatchka, it's rice, with bacon and spinach it's soooo good. (it's polish) My dad also makes amazing fried dough. I know it's not uncommon, but it is sooo good and he makes it from scratch. it's awesome.

Perogies taste like heaven.
They have cheese and mashed potatoes in them...or sourkraut.....or fruit.

But eww. XD
Keilbassa PWNS TOO.

Garlic Fingers =)
I eat them a lot. Like on a weekly basis. They're pretty big over here in Atlantic Canada. Greco and Pizza Delight are the most popular places that carry it.
The only place outside of Atlantic Canada that I know of that has anything like it, is Boston Pizza, it's some weird form of greasy garlic bread. If you ever get the chance, try it.

And poutine. Obviously it's pretty popular in Canada, everyone here pretty much eats it, but I guess if you don't live in Canada it's not.

Candy Cane Ice Cream. Presidents Choice is the brand that I eat of it. Most of my friends didn't even know what it was.

Go Polish people!!!! WOOT.

Hilary, are you serious.. Americans don't have poutine!?!?!?!
That would make me sad even though I don't eat it anymore.

I made a thread about it like a year ago, and half the board didn't know what it was.
I love it. I just use grated cheese instead of curds. My dad buys the St. Huberts gravy =)
It's tasteh.

I like curds. But those things are like 2500 calories on their own.
And I'm a fatty. So I'm not allowed to eat them LOL

Lol.
And then you add the grease in the french fries...
We have a deep fryer at home that gets plenty of use xD
Ohhh it's amazing I'm not 500 pounds.

Nothing weird around here..but I like to eat my pizza with thousand island dressing.

Uhmm...we eat tacos a lot. Most people use those crunchy "taco bell" shells, we use soft corn tortillas. Much much better.

Taquitos. Nobody I've ever met has had one. :confused3

Speaking of deep fryers, we use ours a lot too. :) I love taking hot fries and sprinkling a bunch of cheddar over them and letting it melt. Mmmmm.

The inside of them can be filled with potato, cheese, or mushroom.
The outer shell is a type of dough.

It tastes crunchy, because that's how my mom cooks them. The inside, the cheese tastes cheesy, the mushrooms mushroomy... etc.

Greek food.

Moussaka
Pastichio
Dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with rice)
Avgolemono soup (soup with kritharaki-rice-and a lemon/egg sauce)
Patates tou Fournou (lemony garlic potatos in the oven)

For Christmas, we don't make Gingerbread cookies. We make them with dough from a Greek recipe and we always put a coin in the vasilopita (New Year's Cake).
Hmm...
Sokofreta (THE best chocolate bar..ever) XD It's crispy..almost like a Kit-Kat but better.
Gemista (cooked tomatoes and peppers stuffed with meat and rice)
