Food Questions...Looking for some help!

For the really picky eaters, the steak and chicken, on the lighter fare menu, come completely unseasoned. Also, as my daughter is the definition of picky, you can order a plain lettuce salad as well (not on the menu). She ate steak, potato, and salad every night for 7 nights on our last cruise.

Just going to push back on this a little. My 3 year old is very picky about his mac and cheese (like it sounds like OP's 7-year-old is), and he would NOT eat the non-Kraft version on the ships at all. I tasted it and it is definitely not at all the same as Kraft (the ship's version is much thicker/gloopier and has is more cheesy and less buttery in taste than Kraft).

Ooooh, watch out with this! When I mentioned on the restaurant board that my kids thought the Disney mac and cheese was gloopy, I got attacked and told "if his kids dared say that, they would never set foot in Disney again!" (Uh, sorry, my kids said they didn't like the mac & cheese, therefore we didn't order it for them again, problem solved. We are okay with our kids expressing a dislike and/or preference). Yes, it is much more gloopy looking than standard Kraft, and the DCL mac & cheese looked exactly like the park mac & cheese to me. After the one try, my kids won't go near it. I won't touch any mac & cheese ... just the smell of it makes me gag. Anyway, our picky (and apparently undeserving) kids were able to find menu choices that were acceptable on DCL, even though it meant eating the same meal multiple nights in a row.

I would have him choose something off the menu, adult or children's, and then if he was still hungry after dinner, I'd get him something from the QS on deck or order room service. Nobody should go hungry on a cruise :goodvibes If you're still worried that he will be hungry, grab some cereal and milk from Cabanas and keep it in your room, just in case.

Hello Everyone,

Long time Disney vacationer here but first time cruiser! We will be on the Dream in March, there will be 11 of us (bucket list trip for my in laws) and it has been great reading all these forums, I feel lost when it comes to cruising!

A few specific questions about food....

1. Do kids have to order from the kids menu? DS10 loves to eat steak, can he order the beef entree that is on the menu? Or is his limited to the kids menu?

2. What about picky eaters? On the other hand DS7 pretty much only likes Kraft mac and cheese, fruit and cereal. I assume the mac is not Kraft? Do I just order off the menu and then feed him cereal in the room later? Or just have him not eat and he can eat later? We have several young kids in our party so hopefully they won't let him eat cereal in the dining rooms or we will have a table of kids eating Cheerios and Lucky Charms.

3. What about food allergies? SIL is allergic to nuts, shellfish and green and red peppers. Is there someone we should alert ahead of time or just let our server know?

TIA for any help that anyone can provide!!

The food situation is why we fell in love with Disney cruising.
Want your 5 year old to eat off the adult menu? No problem!
Your 8 year old only wants all the appetizers off that menu? No problem!
Want the same drink every night when you sit down? It will be there.
Your child (teenager) is being a pill and you banish them to your cabin; no problem, dinner will be sent to the stateroom. (We actually did not request this. Our server asked where he was, we shared, and he asked if he could send a small meal to our room. We said yes, and when we got back it turned out it was all the courses. Luckily being stuck in the room was punishment enough).

I have also traveled with other families that were picky eaters and another family that had to be gluten free. Both found DCL to meet and exceed their needs.

You will have no problems as long as you communicate what your needs are.........
