Food question

And how could you hate fried tomatoes???

I hated all types of HOT tomatoes - like stewed tomatoes, which we ALWAYS had with mac & cheese. I loved them cold/raw, but cooked?? EEEWWW!!!! Of course that didn't apply to spaghetti sauce. Just being a kid? I now eat a number of things with cooked tomatoes, but still hate the tomato chunks in 'Garden Style' spag sauce, stewed & fried tomatoes. Do you serve yours in a milky sauce?

My Dad sometimes mentioned s*** on a shingle & my mom always yelled at him! We often had "dried beef gravy" though & all loved it! We didn't have it w/onions & peppers either. Just fry the dried beef in a bit of butter & cover with a roux, then serve on toast. Mmmmm

Okay folks, I get to take home the prize for this one.

First let me say that I come from an Italian family and my DAD was the cook in our house, and pretty much everything he cooks is unbelievably delicious with one exception:

Tripe fried in tomato sauce with onions.

If anybody here has smelled the odor of tripe frying in a frying pan, you know what I'm talking about!

And for those of you who don't KNOW what tripe is, It's the lining of a cow's stomach.

Imagine the smell of a stomach cooking in a frying pan!

I'm getting sick just thinking about it.

(oh and as far as taste, it isn't much better AND it's like chewing a rubber band!)

Fish...my mom made this awful fish every Friday since we were not allowed meat back then. Man it was nasty stuff...As I got older I would start eating a can of tuna on Fridays...boy to this day I hate any kind of fish!

anniet, I think trpe and kidneys probably take the prize!!!!!!! My moter use to make some kidney thing for my father and brother, it would take hours to cook and the smell was repulsive!!!!!!!! I couldn't stay in the house.

Let me see, my mom fixed slimy okra,
cooked cabbage,
liver and onions (other people liked it, not me),
cooked spinach - it looked like the moss that we took off our fishing lines, no way.
lima beans
cooked green tomatoes, nope not me. i don't like green tomatos. I want mine red or yellow and raw thank you, or sauce. lol
buttermilk
runny eggs (sorry, yuck)
catfish, I caught them, had to clean them, no way was I eating them.
brussel sprouts
and last, my dad will never live down the one time he tried to make gravy. LOL

To this day, my MIL still makes her specialty:

TUNA CHOP SUEY

Trust me, I can choke down just about anything but that.

I like cream chipped beef but ours just had beef and the gravy. No wonder you didn't like it! ;)

My mom is a horrible cook and she put CAPERS in EVERYTHING. I can't eat anything with capers. Ick!

I love liver and onions!!! How could you not like it?!

I think I can beat the tripe and the kidneys...or at least equal....

My dad actually cooked tongue once....   I think I was around 13 years old.... When I walked into the kitchen and saw that I was absolutely mortified....and I cried!! Not only was I not going to eat that, but I refused to sit in the same room as anybody who would :(

Tongue, yuck.

I've had to eat pork brains once. Gross!

As far as I am concerned having to eat any organ is disgusting! My father ordered pigs knuckles once when we were on vacation. He actually asked the waitress how the pigs knuckles were. She said she didn't know and that the cook wanted the staff to eat them and they all refused so he wouldn't let them eat anything. Needless to say my father had to sit by himself for that meal!

I may be a total weinie, but I can't stand to eat something if I can tell what it is. I don't want feet, ears, tongue, nothing like that.

I forgot to mention my dad and his rocky mountain oysters.

Oh, yeah, Pandypaws, that's definitely at least an equal! I would refuse to taste anything that might be tasting me back!!!!!!!!

My mom used to make bacon, and burn it to a crisp. I still can't stand bacon till this day!:D

My Mom and Dad used to eat tripe...in tomatoe sauce.

But the worst smelling and looking to me was pickled pigs feet. They used to pick them up like a piece of chicken and munch on them and spit out the knuckes or whatever they were. I used to run when I seen that jar coming out.

I also went over to my Grandfathers who used to cook brains, tounge, eel and rabbit catchitore (sp) You name it, he ate it.

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck

I hate my mom's (and anyones) tuna or salmon pattys. I also got fed anchovies- yuck! Whay would anyone think a 5 yo would want to eat whole fish? But the worst was stuffed bell peppers. Green bell peppers stuffed with seasoned ground meat. To this day I hate peppers.
My mom puts the gibblets in her stuffing- yuck. My dad makes a crock pot full of beans with ham hocks in it. It stinks!
