i'm going to the grocery either today or tomorrow, probably tomorrow and i'll be glad to edit this post with those prices for central Ohio :) -- 20 miles northwest of Columbus -- in the year 2000 our city had approx 16,000 residents

***edited Thursday May 6

the current cost of

1 gallon of regular unleaded gas -- 1.93/ gallon

a gallon of whole milk -- 2.39

a loaf of plain white bread - .39 - I shop at Aldi which is a low-cost food store - at like Meijer a loaf of Aunt Millie's would be around 1.99

a dozen eggs -- .89

and 1 lb of hamburger -- 1.99/lb

the regular prices not sale items

good luck on your schoolwork!

I just went to the gas station this morning and for once actually looked at the prices and saw that for regular it was 1.89 per gallon, 1.99 for super, and 2.07 for super plus! I know I'll end up at the grocery store tomorrow night so I'll have to print out the list and give you an update on the other items Thursday night. We live in the metro Detroit area - so I guess you would consider that a city area. Good luck to you DD!

Would your Dd like the prices of these items in the UK, or are her class just comparing prices in the different States. Mind you I guess that it's easy to come up with prices for the UK, just double all your prices and then you'll have a rough estimate! :teeth:

Glad I can help out! I'll check the prices out tomorrow when I go do the shopping. I presume that you want the prices in $'s and not £'s :teeth:

1 gallon of regular unleaded gas: 1.77 for regular

a gallon of whole milk - 2.99

a loaf of plain white bread - 1.29

a dozen eggs 1.89

and 1 lb of hamburger 3.99 (ouch)!

Went to Stop & Shop this AM.
We're in Bayonne, NJ - very urban, right next to NY.

We live in Southern Maryland. It's considered rural.

1 gallon of regular unleaded gas - $1.78 at the cheap places, $1.89 or so at the pricier ones.

a gallon of whole milk - $1.99

a loaf of plain white bread - For brand name, $1.29, for discount breads, $.89

a dozen eggs - $1.49

and 1 lb of hamburger - I'm guessing you mean just regular hamburger, that's probably $2.39 regularly. The good stuff goes on sale for $1.99, usually around $2.99. That's something I never buy unless it's on sale.

I live in the Northwest area of England, in a town that is located roughly between Manchester and Liverpool. Below are the prices for the items in this area. I guess that the prices would change slightly depending on the exchange rate.

1 gallon of regular unleaded gas $5.21

a gallon of whole milk $3.47

a loaf of plain white bread $1.45

a dozen eggs $2.50

and 1 lb of hamburger $2.50

It's unbelievable how much more we have to pay for petrol (gas) over here!

Good luck to your DD. Hope that she gets lots of good information! :hyper:
