I went shopping the other day, yes I went to several stores. grocery store, Wal-Mart, BJ's and Aldi's. I am shocked at the recent increase in price. A gallon of milk at Shop-Rite, almost $4.00 a gallon, Wal-Mart Price $3.48 and Aldi's $2.38. A standard can of veggies, say corn, green beans in Wal-Mart is $0.97 a can, Shop-Rite over $1.00 for one can! :scared1: I remember when you get 3 for $1.

So with the prices on the rise and not stopping, I am now shopping at more than one store, cutting coupons and making sure nothing goes to waste. Everything is going up except the good people's paychecks in the good ole United States!

Have you noticed in your part of the country a recent increase in food? What changes are you and your family making, I'd love to hear from all of you on this one!

I have actually been looking at the sales ads, using coupons and I shop "lite". I only buy what I need. That has helped.:thumbsup2

I try to shop at Save Alot. They have good deals

Canned veggies .47-.59
Milk by the gallon is 2.50 a gallon
They have great meat prices and a great selection. I know Aldis meat selection is small

Around here our food prices went up drastically over a year ago and just recently are coming down a bit.

I agree grocery prices are going way up. Thank goodness milk here is still ok though. $1.58 at Costco, $1.78 at Walmart and $1.99 at Target.

Our milk prices have been that high for a couple years--which I don't understand considering the number of dairy farms in the area. I know there are some state price controls on milk so we always have some of the highest milk prices in the country.

I think just the opposite. I thought prices went sky high last year and have significantly receded since then. It seems that every week Target lowers prices on items.

Another person who saw the prices skyrocket last year and then come down. They seem to have stablized now.

Exactly the same here. Prices were sky high last year, and they have come down quite a bit.

To answer the OP's question, though, on how to save: I shop more than one store as well. I make use of price matching for the stores that offer it (take the ads with you to the stores) and some stores offer double and triple coupons up to $1. If something I buy regularly is on sale (especially buy one, get one), I stock up.

Wow, I love Shop Rite from where I grew up, and always counted on them for great prices. When we go back to visit family in NJ, we always take a quick trip there and stock up on some great prices!
I have noticed that our prices are creeping up again...a while ago they were sky high and came down somewhat, but I've noticed the increase lately. Thankfully, our milk is still welll priced right now around a little under $2 a gallon.
I've done the pantry/freezer/fridge cleanout gig so I've been fortunate enough to buy only fresh items since October, but now that I'm restocking I am noticing the difference.

A gallon of milk is $3.28 here at our Publix. Meat is very expensive. A pound of ground beef went way up last year and then dropped a bit. When we moved from MA a pound of ground beef was $1.99/lb. In Florida it is about $3.79+/lb unless it is on sale then like $2.99/lb. MIL says it is still $1.89-$1.99/lb in MA/NH. Nice. Peppers are SO expensive for 1 red, 1 green and 1 yellow $5.99!

I think meat prices are ridiculous. Even "on sale" the prices are high.

One thing I noticed last week was Rice Chex cereal. I had gotten a box at Wal-Mart for $2.00. The next week that same box was $3.34!! :scared1: That is quite a jump all at once. A few cents is understandable, but $1.34? Or maybe they raised the Chex cereal prices for the holidays, knowing people are buying them to make Chex mix for snacking? :confused3

Just curious, are you buying Kemps? I know they are higher, which is why I always buy the store brand.
I agree some prices have gone down, but I see a lot of things that have gone up and the package size is smaller.

My Walmart has the same sale on Rice Chex occaionally. I don't think this is the everyday price though, just a good sale that they get shipments in of. Once in awhile, I hit the jackpot with it but otherwise I think the 3.34 is their regular price. I love the 2.00 sale, I save up my coupons just for it and buy a lot. I use the Rice Chex for cereal, homemade Chex mix and Monkey Munch, some call it Puppy Chow, Muddy Buddies (the recipe is on the box). It is a great deal when you can find it for that.

I noticed the other day that a standard size bag of Dorito's costs $3.99. That is a lot of money for a bag of chips.

Bolding mine. This is what I've noticed more than the prices going up. Peanut butter is 16oz now for the same price it was at 18oz (and the label says new container is greener or whatever...yeah because it's smaller!) The frozen veggies at Kroger used to be 16 oz packages but are now 12oz. Those are just a couple of examples.

Yes, it is! When I was a kid, my mom was a single parent and shopped on a budget. I swore when I had a family, I would not buy generic/store brand items. I wanted the brand names of everything only. My how has that changed, and my kids have been eating the 10 for $10 Kroger tortilla chips at a dollar a bag. ;)

We get the 2 packs from Cub. I don't actually know how much milk is right now, we buy it no matter what but I do know for a while those 2 packs were $6.40 or so.

After DGD and I decide which Christmas cookies we're going to make, I have to make a list of the ingredients I don't have on hand already..

I'm scared... Very, very scared....

But - it's Christmas - and it's a tradition.. Gotta do it..:santa:

Did you check milk at BJ's? I get a gallon of Land O Lakes for under $2.00 a gallon.
