We travel every couple of months and enjoying great food is on the top of our list of things we do when we travel. We recently traveled to Kauaii where we enjoyed the Hyatt's top rated restaurant as well as many others in the area. We stayed and ate at the Arizona Biltmore last Feb and in November, enjoyed Tucson's number one rated restaurant, Janos.
In comparison, we thought the Disney Magic food quality was very good and the dinners were very impressive which surprised us after reading some of the less than good reviews. It's not upscale service but you get ongoing "attention" in particular to the kids (in our case). But we really liked our servers and think the service issue has more to do with the way they train their servers and have them follow you around. We actually don't like that aspect...it gets too friendly for us and we'd like some variety in our interactions with waitstaff.
Anyway...as far as the food...the lobster, shrimp and fish were wonderful, the tenderloin was perfect, the chicken was tender and couldn't be better. The Topsider lunch buffet had loads of peel and eat shrimp, crab claws, marinated calamari and desserts galore. The only thing I didn't like at dinner was the crab cake appetizer.
That's our opinion...BTW..we really DON'T like chain restaurants ie: Applebee's, Friday's, Macaroni Grill, etc. if that gives you a gauge. I would say the dinner menu might be considered too "out there" for some people who are used to the basic steak, burger, fried chicken thing with nachos, mozzerella sticks and onion ring appetizers for a choice. That is NOT on the menus. Maybe that's where the food complaints stem from???? Otherwise, I truly can't imagine complaining about the food we were served in the restaurants.
