I only take food pictures at WDW, nowhere else. I don't take them to remember the vacation, I take them for my food reviews. I love the pictures on the Dis, they have helped me so much in planning where to eat.

It is a bit annoying while your are eating to get a stray flash from someone, but I am right there taking pictures of my own food where ever I travel.

I absolutely love writing dining reviews, especially from WDW. I want everyone to experience what I did and understand my point of view when trying a dish. I also really enjoy seeing others pictures, so I can try different places and dishes.

 Sorry to hear that for some it can truly be a problem.:confused3

Most of the time it is NOT a problem. At character meals and other places where the lighting is brighter it has no effect at all. And one quick picture has no effect at all either. I guess I am still a little upset about our experience at Blue Bayou in DisneyLand a couple of weeks ago. If you have not been, it is very dark in there, and the table next to us kept taking flash pictures over and over. Then someone behind us on POC kept taking flash pictures in quick succession in order to get the "perfect shot" of Davy Jones on the misting screen, even though they clearly heard the CM shout "No flash photography" as we were being "shoved off" into the bayou....If you have a seizure disorder you have to avoid brught flashing lights, strobes, etc. I say flash away during the day or a brightly lit meal, just be careful in dimly lit environments, you never know if the person or child next to you has a seizure condition.

Also, for healthy people, it sucks to be blinded in a dimly lit room unexpectedly! :goodvibes

I'm all for it. As many people pointed out, it can help in making ADRs. Plus, the chefs often put in considerable effort to make the food presentable, so why not take a picture of their work? And besides, if it's such a bad thing then why do many restaurant websites show pictures of their food?

I do agree with the poster from Greenwood whose husband has seizures, though. In low-lit areas it is courteous to not use your flash, even if the picture doesn't come out that great.

Thanks fellow Hoosier! :goodvibes Really, it doesn't bother us at all 99% of the time, just in the dimly lit envirnments, especially in rapid succession! :thumbsup2

if i ever returned to work after a disney trip without photos of the food/meals, my co-workers would be FURIOUS!!

honestly, they don't even look at the attraction/view photos - it's straight to the plated meals!!!

My DH has gotten a little food-porn happy, when we went to a really nice restaurant (Non-Disney) for Valentines Day, he wanted to start taking pictures....while I was thinking "I created a monster!".

It's funny, because I just introduced him to Disney two years ago (at the ripe "old age" of 45, his first trip ever!!) and I really wanted him to get interested in it, so I started to show him some food pics on the Disboards. He's goes "You mean, people actually take pictures of their food and post it on this board?!" :rotfl: It cracks me up, because now HE is the one taking the pictures!!

I have to admit that even though I voted yes, I personally am still a little embarrassed to try it.:headache: And I love to take photos, particularly to 'photojournal' a trip I'll take pics of the motel and the gas station we ate at. Usually the person I'm vacationing with is less than happy though, particularly when we're abroad, and I'm being a 'tourist' (like they can't tell we're American).

I can say that the food porn has helped me greatly though. So maybe I should just go for it.

We've gotten to the point that we take pictures any time we dine at a new or a unique establishment, regardless of where it's located. We've taken food pictures in Vegas before and plan to do so again next week for some of the special events we're attending at Vegas Uncorked as well as all the other meals we're stuffing our faces at.

If we're somewhere more upscale, like V&A or some of the establishments in Vegas, we will check with the staff to make sure it's OK for us to take pictures, because we don't want to do anything that might disrupt the staff or the experience of other diners.

I say go for it, just as long as you post your pictures here on the DIS when you get home :goodvibes

I take pictures sometimes and see nothing wrong with it. I suppose there is a tiny percentage of the population who might be affected by the flash but I've never seen a sign or heard an announcement that flash photography is forbidden in a restaurant.

I voted yes, I always take pictures of my food, and not just at Disney, any time I eat at, and sometimes things I cook as well.

Just as a word of caution to people, if the restaurant is dimly lit taking pictures can be hazardous to other diners health. My DH has a seizure disorder, and lights flashing in dim lights can cause him to have one. One snap is no big deal, but someone taking several pictures with flash in dim light could cause him to seize. NOTHING makes me more mad than people taking flash pictures on the dark rides. Remember, to some people it is not just annoying (and against the rules), but could be hazardous. :thumbsup2

Must be tough on some of the rides and attractions that use changing lights in dark areas.
