would appreciate some info from all you experienced travellers!!

We just found out our 8yo ds' is now allergic to palm/palm oil as well as tree nuts and coconut (has had these since he was little!)

We are flying from Detroit to San Juan in 5 weeks :cool1:

WHAT foods can I put in the carry on for him that I could take through security so he has some snacks on the plane?? Our flight leaves at 1:45pm and doesn't get into San Juan until 7:20pm so he's going to need something pretty substantial!

Thinking for sure I should be able to take goldfish, pringles but he needs more to sustain him and with this palm allergy it just completly narrows his choices! We can all get a sandwich on the flight but not sure what we will be able to get/do for him!

This really stinks but on the bright side it could be a whole lot worse - he's just fine other then the allergies.... palm oil is very high in saturated fat and in most processed foods so he'll be one healthy kid!!

Pack anything you want in your carry-on except for liquids. Buy any drinks once you get through security. I've packed cereal packs - the one's that are in their own bowl - then bought a small carton of milk from the coffee shop once we are through security. Perfect for my boys on an early morning flight.

So are things like applesauce ok now??

Sigh having allergies stinks!!

I would imagine not. They don't allow lotions over the small travel size so I would think applesauce would also be a no.
You could pack it in your checked luggage if it's a favourite that he could look forward to once you arrive. An apple would be okay though!

I would agree no applesauce. But you can bring on liquids and such that you buy in the gift shop after security check points. My DD is really picky and I just picked her up some juice and snacks at the gift shops and coffee shops while we waited for the plane. I would think the applesauce tubes and yogurt tubes would be okay but definitely pack them in the baggies.
