Food Drives

With Thanksgiving just around the corner we are staring to see food collection barrel's in our stores. I just want to urge everyone to add an item or two when they can. Our church food pantry has had to turn families away because the shelves are nearly empty----bless you.

A good reminder for all of us at this time of year. Most of the grocery stores here in town have food drive bags that you can buy in the store. There are groceries pre-bagged with a price tag on them. You purchase it and then place in the the food bank container on your way out of the store.

I already bought 2 grocery bags full, along with some Toilot paper and baby formula. It feels great to give to those in need, doesn't it!

Do your area Scouts always do a food drive before the holidays? I ask because for some reason our Council does it at the beginning of the year...this year's is March 27th. Last year our town's foodbank came and asked if the troop would do a food drive in December since they were so low on supplies. I understand they need help year round but to me it would seem like people would need the food more in November, December and January do to higher heating bills.

On a side note our "food" bank also collect things like soap, laundry soap, shampoo, TP, and dish detergent. Any actual money we received they asked me to buy these type of products because people only seem to donate food. I understand some places only accept food donations though. They even took the diaper and baby food coupons I had to pass on to new parents.
