we love the food court at PORS family of five but what are the food courts like at the deluxe restorts if they have them

I would like to stay at one of the deluxe resorts for extra space in the bedroom

Mara is the best of the deluxes we've been at. Good hot food, and good selection of cold offerings. (Favorites - chicken pizza, African Stew, breakfast wrap). Captain Cooks at the Poly is okay - nothing fancy or noteworthy, but totally doable.

In my eyes - the deluxes don't have a "food court" per se. They do have a "cafe" that offers quick choices but limited choices. That's why we like the moderates. To me, they and the values have true food courts where you can choose from various eateries - just like at a mall.

I feel if your family is used to the moderate and value food courts you may be very disappointed in the deluxe "cafes". JMHO

The deluxes have smaller quick service areas b/c they have a lot less people to serve. CBR has around 2,000 rooms versus Polynesian with a little over 800- so of course their food court will be smaller.

At the moderates/values, you get a food court with a station for pizza, a station for burgers, a station for chicken, etc. At the deluxes, its all sold at the same counter- it doesn't need to be spread out as much.

I might not stay at a resort with no quick service food at all, but I definitly wouldn't let a smaller sized foodcourt deter me from staying at a deluxe. -Steph

I haven't been to the AKL yet, but have really looked into the Mara foodcourt and asked a lot of questions about it. I've gotten mixed reviews about it during my research and found a lot have liked it, but a lot of people seemed to feel that it had fewer offerings than the food courts at the moderates and values. You might want to check out it's menu actually, and I think they might have one posted on www.allearsnet.com.

I can tell you for sure that the Polynesian and GF do not have food courts. I'm sure you could probably order room service but if your really looking for a food court, a deluxe is not the place to stay. In fact I'm almost hesitant about staying at the AKL in May simply because I'll dislike the lack of a food court. (I have a pretty rare food allergy and Disney's food courts make it very easy for me to see the food actually prepared, and they have so many selections its easy to find something safe to eat!) Plus food courts give you such a variety of offerings and restaurants (which are what the deluxes have) tend to be more limited there. But honestly if your going deluxe, expect to be eating at the sit-down restaurant(s) that they may have (dependent upon the one you chose). At least if you are not having your own transportation expect to do that. We always drive down so it wont be a problem for us to just go to the other food courts, but I can imagine that taking a bus to another resort just for breakfast every day could get a bit annoying. Anyways hope this helped a bit and if you have any questions feel free to PM me. :cool1:

I will say this. When you compare the Mara to the other deluxe "food courts" it does win hands down. When you compare the Mara to any moderate or value food court, there is no comparision. The Mara is the best in the deluxe category, but is nothing in comparision in size, selection available to any moderate or value. You will not get anything like the moderates or values at a deluxe. If you're looking for some variety and a place to grab a quick meal once in a while, the Mara will provide you well. If you're looking for someplace to eat most of your meals, the Mara will be disappointing.

The Mara gets our vote, too! We love it there and always visit at least once!

Well put jel051! Thats a great way of summing it up so thank you for doing that! :) I think my husband and I are so going to wind up driving to other resorts to eat most of our meals however I will look through that section of the Mara. :) Anyways just wanted to say that your post was helpful for me as well so thanks!
