When you are a DVC member, are there food courts near/ in the DVC room area?

There is usually some form of food in the general area of each resort (OKW has Olivia's, BWV has the whole Boardwalk worth of restaurants, etc) but not generally a food court. I don't believe most of the Deluxe resorts of any type have a "food court" per se.

Besides, the larger units have full kitchens and even the Studios have kitchenettes. I don't believe it is an issue for most owners.

When I'm on vacation I don't want to cook so the kitchenettes don't interest me at all! We are thinking of buying into SSR, but no food court/restaurant close by could totally change my decision on DVC!

There are lots of restaurants close by to all of the DVC resorts but not food courts. The BWV and BCV where we own have enough restaurant options to keep us very happy. If you include EPCOT, the restaurant options are too many to count. Personally I'm not a big fan of food courts so this would be a negative for my family. For SSR the restaurants at DTD are right next door.

WL/VWL has a great food court!

At SSR there is the Artist Pallete which offers fresh made breakfast and lunch items, as well as a mini-grocery store area, and lso, the Turf Club Bar & Grill now serves lunch and dinner as well at SSR. Food courts, per say, are not at any DVC resort. BCV has Beaches & Cream........BWV has Spoodles, OKW has Olivia's (GREAT breakfasts). I had PMed you some information.....

WL/VWL has a great food court!

haven't tried it since the rehab early last year but, it was the worst food we've ever encountered @ WDW:sad2: ...plan on trying it again in June (gluttons for punishment lol; but have read many complimentary reviews lately).

since we're studio people & don't cook; would luv to see a "mini" Value type food court.

on DP, find ourselves venturing over to AS or Pop for a fix.

All the DVC resorts have a CS restaurant - the most "food-court-y" atmosphere of them is probably the one at SSR, but none of the DVC or deluxe resorts are as varied in options as the food-court-style dining at POP and the moderate resorts. (They all have vastly superior table-service dining and/or signature dining). VWL has the option of room service - I don't know about BCV or BWV.

There are a ton of food-court-type offerings at DTD (DTD is basically and outdoor Disney mall), which is walking distance from SSR. There'e also bus and boat service to DTD.

Its been pretty good when we go, but even so the worst food at WDW is pretty darn good when hungry teens get back to the resort at 11PM.:thumbsup2

Let me put the discaimer out that I'm truly NOT trying to stir the pot. Take this for what it is worth. It is ONLY MY opinion.

DVC has the worst food choices on site. Value resorts have better food offerings IMO. DVC has taken this "home away from home" thing to far. It is NOT our homes and I'd like some decent food with decent selections. My idea of VACATION is not myself or my wife in that kitchen cooking. We use that for reheating and storing alcohol and drinks.

DVC has proven to be a follower not a leader so I propose DVC go look at what Marriott does at their Timeshares. They have really good poolside food with a real menu of choices and waiters/waitresses. You can actually sit down under an umbrella sipping a cold beer eating your lunch while the kids splash in the pool completely in your sight. Sounds relaxing doesn't it???? Not going to happen at SSR or most of the other DVC resorts either. Marriott also has a great store where you actually shiop for many things you would need on vacation. In that store they have a grill section also serving food kind of like the BCV market. They also have Pizza Hut and Starbucks coffee. Sounds simplye geting a decent cup of coffee. Not going to get that at a DVC Resort unless you bring your own. On top of that some have sit down restaurants as well. ALL are willing and glad to do to go orders. DVC will not do to go orders anymore. DDP has ruined that.

OP, If food and a high level of pampering and service is what you are looking for then DVC is NOT for you.

As food courts go I only consider those available at the moderate and values where they need to feed large amounts of people. I don't think there is a need at any DVC resort for that, hence they don't have them.

As to what is available at the DVC resorts in counter service as to whether it is good or not, is purely subjective. We eat at least one meal each day at Artist Palette at SSR and are very pleased. Poolside obviously appeals to some and I have no problem with them offering it, it does not appeal to me. Bugs, birds, and the heat are not where I want to eat any meal.

Roaring Forks since the rehab has a very pleasing selection also to us. In my opinion the BW and the BC are very lacking in the category of onsite counter service as is OKW.

To me it's not so much what they offer, but having a nice place to sit down and eat inside.

I couldn't agree more!! Though I'm not holding my breath:rolleyes1

But what else is there to do at a Marriott but sit out at the pool? We've got four theme parks, two water parks, a large shopping venue, three minigolf courses. I think most people buy DVC to spent the majority of their time doint these things rather than sitting out at the pool all day. I could be wrong, though.

I agree. We do use the kitchen for some meals, but by no means, all of them. And sure DVC has the theme parks, but my offsite timeshare (Vistana) is a mere 8-10 min drive to the parks. In fact, when we stay at Vistana, we spend 85% of our time in wdw. So respectfully Deb & Bill, there's a lot to do during our stays at Vistana besides sit by the pool. The only difference is we drive our car to the parks vs taking the busses. Takes the same amount of time, and in fact, we can often get to the parks quicker driving from Vistana vs wdw busses. But Vistana has room service from their 2 onsite restaurants, as well as the Pizza Hut (open until 11 or 12 am depending on the season) in the resort General Store (which is very adequately stocked with food in comparison to the DVC resorts. I just wish we had the option of getting something to eat at OKW when we come back from the parks at 11 or midnight. Instead, our only option is to call for delivery from offsite restaurants (luckily we have that at least). We love Olivia's, but are not always in the mood for a sit down meal. A nice (indoor) food court (even if it's small), would be a welcome addition.
So I agree with dumbo on this....why does DVC think we want to cook all our meals in the room when we are on vacation. Love OKW....but this is our one beef with the resort. At the very, very least, Goods To Go needs to stay open later than 10 pm. And even Goods isn't a decent option in inclement weather. Visited SSR this past summer and I will say I really like the AP food court area. Nice compliment to the resort (like Roaring Forks at WL too). The BCV has the Marketplace, which is nice, but way too small. I think there are 3 tables or so.

dumbo71, you should try BCV. There you can order a drink at the pool. Options for dining run the gamut from Hurricane Hannah's at the pool up to Yachtsman's Steakhouse. There is also Cape May, Yacht Club Galley, Beaches and Cream, BC Marketplace and the snacks available at the lounges. I would take any of those over Pizza Hut.:thumbsup2

And yes, room service is an option at the BCV as it is at BWV.

Where is this "proven"? I know of Marriott's where there is no poolside service - so even Marriott must not be a "proven" leader.

I can think of at least 4 DVC resorts where guests can enjoy food and a cold beer while at the pool. There may not be any waiters or waitresses if that's critical, but there is food and beer . I know this is available at OKW (Good's-To-Go), BCV (Hurricane Hannahs), BWV (Leaping Libations) and HH (Signals/Sandbar) and I agree, it is relaxing. I think you can also enjoy food and beverages at VWL and VB too. At SSR, Artists Palette is next to the main pool and there are poolside tables where food items and bevarages may be enjoyed. Some even have umbrellas.

Gosh, it looks like guests at all of the DVC resorts can enjoy eating and drinking while sitting around the pool - just like at some (but not all) Marriott resorts. Of course, some (but not all) Marriotts apparently have waiters/waitresses - but I can't recall any of those at WDW.

Where again was this "proven"?

There are servers who come around and take orders at SAB at Y&BC/BCV. I don't know the hours or even if it is seasonal but have seen them many times.

Doc, really? Is it only at the main pool? I would like to know the rule. Because my mom brought some food and drink packed from her room down to the CP pool for all of us in May. I told them we couldn't eat anything there because the sign says, "no food and drink at pool area". However, we were a large group and they all ignored me and vetoed my concerns and hence I really couldn't relax. So the main pool is different?

Dumbo71,
We do bring our own coffee! That is about as close to cooking as I get on vacation!:rotfl2: We do prefer our own coffee, though. I grind up the beans before we leave. I have often thought when the airline people are digging through our bag, they are probably thinking "What in the heck are they trying to cover up here!" :rotfl2: "Bring out the dogs!":rotfl2:

Before DVC, we were used to the food courts at the AS resorts.. After we joined, we were somewhat nostaglic for them... (Hard to believe, I know..) ;)

A few years ago, we got to Disney a night early and managed to snag a room at Pop Century.. I then realized that I really didn't miss those food courts all that much... What we really missed was the feelings we had on the first few times we went to WDW. (All Star's were all we could afford back then..)

There are plenty of options to eat at our home resorts, and if you really want counter service, you can find it.. Worse case, get pizza delivered..
