I heard a rumor that DVC is moving it's headquarters out of SSR and the area they are in is the ice cream shop that will go back to it's original purpose. That purpose includes a food court area. That is what I heard. Anyone have any info on this? It would be great because Artist Palette sure does get PACKED!!!

oooooo...from your "fingers" to Mickey's ears!

I've heard that several years ago.

They said the office area actually used to be a gymnasium.

It makes sense to move sales to AKV to promote traffic to that area. I think AKV is more of a visual place that one has to lay eyes on before purchasing.

DVC traditionally does not move the sales office every time a new resort opens. It isn't cheap to relocate and build a new sales area. And since the models for AKV are already in place at SSR, I don't think they will move it at this time. It is more likely IMO that they will relocate the sales center to the Contemporary after that tower building is finished and ready for sales, assuming that the tower really is DVC.

I still think that there are new Contemporary models across from the AKV models at SSR. We were touring the AKV models early last year and workers were building across the hall from the AKV models. I asked what was being built and the non-Guide girl told us that it was a mock up. I asked, a mock up of what, and she said that she didn't know.

I wouldn't be surprised about this. Contemporary could be a great location for a permenant sales location. With ease of access via monorail from both MK and Epcot, it seems to make sense that it could generate a lot of traffic directly from the parks.

AKV models at SSR

WHAT AKV models @ SSR? Our rep didn't even bother to show them and I assumed they were @ AKV and you only got to tour 1 or that they were both the same floorplan just different decor. I feel jipped.

The focus of DVC sales guides has been to push, push, and push SSR and maybe mention AKV.

When I was on the Disney Wonder last month, I attended the presentation for non-members and all they talked about was SSR. No mention of AKV at all!

Disney will not move the sales center out of SSR any time soon. The AKV models are there, the "other" model is there. To move the sales center, Disney would have to create new space in either AKV or BLT for the sales center. Plus would need lots of parking for the vans.

Not going to happen.

I just hope Disney had realized that the combination CS restaurant and retail shop is a horrid design.

I honestly don't see them moving the sales center to the Contemporary. Those units will probably sell so fast that having the sales center there will only cause them to move again in the near future.

I don't think the sales center will move again until the Poly DVC comes online. :lmao: Wishing! :wizard:

I dunno about that. Didn't they redesign the Beach Club Marketplace in the last couple of years to follow a similar model?

I agree. Not only that but a sales center would take up significant square-footage that could otherwise be put to better use.

As dvc_john said, the only AKV model room is located in the theater building at SSR. Click on the links in my signature if you want to view some photos of it. The model is of the rooms that are being built in Kidani Village. The rooms in Jambo House are smaller with quite a few differences in the floor plan, most notably that the 1BRs in Kidani have a second bathroom, the Jambo House 1BRs do not. Although not shown in my photos, there is a tub/shower in that second bathroom. Another significant difference is that the master bath in the Jambo House 1BRs have a combined whirlpool tub and shower instead of the usual separate jacuzzi and shower stall (which Kidani's 1BRs will have). Floor plans for the Kidani Village rooms can be found here.

Yep, sounds right! It's not to say I would definitely would choose AKV, I loved the SSR rooms. But I like to be informed and know all my options. This is too big of a purchase to be misled.

Lisa, thank you so much for the pics! Seeing up close detail is much different than brochure pics. It certainly is beautiful, and I love the subtle Disney incorporations. It's just too bad AKV is so removed from all the rest. Although, I don't really guess there's any way around it is there.

I know the food court can be packed. I'm not sure if they did this becasue DTD is next door. We eat mostly at DTD or in the parks. We ate at the turf club once and at the food court once. So not a bige deal to us. The gift shop needs improvement also.
