Food cost guilt

My son could eat 2 of the regular(enlisted in the Air Force yeaterday and off to BMT) along with the sides, daughters just half. Too much grease for this old man and they do "share".

Jack

Hey, Jack,
May God bless your son. Will keep him in my prayers to keep him safe while he keeps our country safe.

Regret 1 from March trip....I did not make time for a sit down meal to get the Monte Christo...

I WILL GET ONE NEXT TIME!

We have reservations so I can eat a MC on my birthday at CO. Sounds like I can share mine with my 2 boys, although the oldest is picky and probably won't eat it.

I've never had one at DL before, but I worked at a restaurant in college that occasionally offered one as a special and it was yummy there. But I don't remember it being greasy at all. So is it deep fried at DL?

Mmmmmm the Monte Cristo, great sandwich!! :) But rich, I had it at the BB a few times, loved it but couldn't finish it, nor could we afford to eat at the BB every time we went. LOL So we started going to CO instead to have the MC, this is what we do. Because it is so unhealthy (and I have health issues already) DBF gets the MC, I order the bowl of gumbo and the salad and I eat some of his MC (usually just 1/4 but sometimes I take a few bites of another 1/4 lol) and he eats half of my gumbo and some of my salad. The gumbo is what you get at BB and the salad (the small salad, not an entree salad) is plenty big enough and I really like the raspberry vinaigrette. We get 1 order of the Pomme Frites for the family to share and the girls generally get the chicken and pasta and we get an extra plate so they can share. We do not get charged the split plate fee when we simply ask for an extra plate for them.

So tell me this....does the monte cristo live up to the hype?

Blech. No way! It is fatty and greasy! I tried it two years ago and was SO excited about it, but it was kinda yucky and it gave me a very bad tummy ache for the rest of the day. Unless you regularly eat VERY greasy food, I would stay away! Now those Pomme Frites...YUM!! :thumbsup2

I agree 100%. Way too greasy. I don't understand why so many people like it.

My sons and I went to the CO in October and we had an order of the fries for the table, my DS10 and I got gumbo and Ds5 and I split the cheese Monte Cristo. We each had 1 piece and were done. My DS10, who had a kids meal, ate one piece and DH who joined us at the end ate the last piece. We really liked the gumbo, and we liked the sandwich, but it was just so rich. About 10 years ago we ate at BB and had the MC, and I did like the cheese one at CO better.

Did anyone else see the title of this thread on the front page and wonder what was a "Food cost QUILT"?:rolleyes1

Why is it I have no problem dropping $36 on a character breakfast or $46 on a character dinner but I just cannot wrap my mind around $17.50 for a monte cristo as much as I try

So tell me this....does the monte cristo live up to the hype?

I didn't like it BUT it is big enough to serve 2 easily so I think that makes up for the price a bit.

We saved our change for 6 months to finally eat at the BB.My daughter and I split the Monte Crisco and my husband got his own. All 3 of us agreed it was the grossest thing we have ever had. I have never had one before and was thinking it was grilled like a french toast. Our sandwich was deep fried. Maybe it was just our taste! The gumbo was delicious, the bread was yummy, the service was outstanding. We ordered the wrong thing. :( Just be forewarned and it is possible it is just personal taste.

I am so glad to hear that other people hated the Monte cristo sandwich, i thought i was the only one. I was so excited to try the three cheese version after i had read countless times about how great it was. I have to say i was so disappointed! It was gross and a heart attack waiting to happen. I would not buy this again even if was only $1.

I didn't like the montecristo either. It was greasy, and it left me feeling disgusting. Many other dishes at the BB are great though.

I remember having it as a teenager, and it was (pretty much) exactly the same as it sounds now. I didn't care for it 30 some-odd years ago, and when there are so many other yummy food choices in the park, I haven't had another one since.

My sister and my 15 year old son both love the Monte, but I have never seen them finish one. It is either shared out with others at the table or we take a doggy bag and finish it later at the hotel room. The price is high but so are just about all the other food prices in DLand. You are paying premium of course to eat your Monte on the shores of the ROA if you are at CO or next to a firefly filled bayou carrying boat loads of guests seeking adventure and salty old pirates at BB. Personally I stay away from the Monte as it gives me a stomach ache, but I do find other things to enjoy on the CO and BB menus as I love the atmosphere at both.

We did enjoy the MC but as others have said, it is VERY rich and way too much for one person. We have ressies at NO and BB this coming trip so we will be getting it during one of our meals but we will be sharing it. The gumbo is fantastic (that's what I had last time) so we will no doubt get an order of both and then share.

The MC sandwich sounds like a terrible idea; I don't think I'll ever try one!

I like them, but as other posters have said, you can't eat one by yourself as a meal. They are RICH and HEAVY, though decadent and yummy (to me!). I only eat 1/4 as an appetizer. So maybe think about it that way. You're each getting to try it for $4 each. Like a little dessert almost. I would never order one just for me to eat as my meal.
