Me and the wife is going to Vero beach in January. It's our first time at Vero Beach. Any idea's for some good places to eat?

Thanks

Check past posts for lots of suggestions be we like:

Squid Lips & Capt. Hirams in Sebastian & Mulligans and Riverside Cafe in Vero.

Great places, all on the water. Mulligans is right on the ocean and the rest are on the Indian River.

The Ocean Grill is the best restaurant in town IMO. It's also a bit pricey, and may not be the best for kids.
That said, if it's just dinner for two, the Ocean Grill can't be beat for food as well as atmosphere.

(Caveat - Order some horseradish to go with the cocktail sauce if you order shrimp cocktail.)

I second this ... and make sure you try the crab au gratin as either an appetizer or entree!

I have tried most good places in the area, but I'm not familiar with Oriente.
Can you tell me a bit about it? Type of food, dress, atmosphere, locale??

I will be in Vero in 16 days, and I'm always looking for a good restaurant.

Thanx,
MG

I originally heard of this on the VB adoration thread from Starbox and gave it a try this past August. Oriente http://www.costadeste.com/dining/dining.asp is the name of the restaurant in the Gloria Estephan hotel. If you were driving to Ocean Grille on Beachland Blvd.... instead of going straight at the Stop Sign you take a right on Ocean Drive.

The food was to die for!!!! Seriously! They had a price fix meal for 2 at $70 that included App, Entrée and dessert and a bottle of wine! Yup you are reading that correctly!!!! I had veal on bone Entrée and my wife had a salmon dish. For dessert I had bananas foster and my wife had homemade cannoli's. For apps I had a baked heirloom tomato dish (to die for) and my wife had a clams scampi.

As far a dress you can get away with khaki's and a polo or Hawaiian shirt. We went with a group of 12 which included 6 children and they were definitely kid friendly. My kids were laughing at one point and I apologized to the waitress and she said... "We love kids... dont worry about it!"

It was dead in August, I think about 30% occupied but I would be willing to bet that is not the case in the winter. This time of year I would guess you wouldn't need ressies either but wouldn't hurt to ask.

On a 16 day trip I might be inclined to go more than once! :lmao:

Are you saying that the total for two adults was $70 or $70/adult? Do they have a children's menu? We are hoping to get a trip to Vero in May with DBIL and DSIL (and their 2 young daughters) and this sounds like a wonderful place to try. Thanks :)

If you have kids or teenagers, Captain Hiram's is always our first choice. Great views and lots of distractions for the kids. We have gone there at least 10 times in our annual trips to VB and have never been disappointed.
On the flip side, the pizza takeout a block away is nothing special.
Have fun!

Several say Squid Lips... It must have been a bad day for us when we went. Wasn;t worth the drive. Liked the atmosphere, but the food was nothing special.

There is a mexican restaurant in Vero Beach that was very good. It was in a small strip mall. Ay Jalisco 465 21st St, Vero Beach, FL‎ - (772) 778-8489‎ Very busy with locals and very, very good.

We were at VB in May and made our first trip to Squid Lips, I had the Cajun Bacon Wrapped Scallops and they were delish!!! :thumbsup2
Heading back down next week and want to go there again.
Another good restaurant is Mama Mia's up in Sebastian, i'm pretty sure the web site is on the VB Adoration thread... went there twice in May!! Might have been the best pasta, I've had:thumbsup2 all home made.
ENJOY
