Our trip this Sept/Oct will be with our 2 dd's (2 and 3), and we will need simple eating options while we are there. I like the idea of staying at a moderate resort for the transportation benefits, room size and calmer atmosphere, but want to be sure that the y have food offerings similar to those at the values (quick eats, child friendly, etc...). Any advice would be appreciated.

I've only stayed at MODs and they all have
CS with typical food.
On our last trip we stayed at POR and loved
the CS food--they offered--Create your own Pasta,
Pizza, Fried Chicken or Fish Basket. Many different dessert
snacks. Breakfast was the typical Waffles, Fruit, Eggs, Meat, OJ
and they also offer Grits.
These are all the items that we ate while there.
Everything was very good. I love the Decore of the Rivermill
CS at POR--because it has all of the gears on the inside that
turns the Big Red Water Wheel.

We stayed at CBR and POR and found the breakfast choices to be the same and very good, the basic waffle, pancakes, eggs etc.

We ate dinner at the POR for a week (hurricane evacuees) and it was awesome but that was before they changed the entire menu around.

I have stayed at the POR, POFQ and the CBR, the food courts at each resort were rather good. There was plenty of table space at each as well.

POR, POFQ and CBR all have the same type of food court set up that the values have and all of those food courts are near the main pool. The selections at those mod food courts are about like the value food courts. They all have plenty of seating which is nice both inside and outside at the pool.

CSR has the Pepper Market for their food court. It has a wide range of options, even steak and the food is wonderful. However, you are automatically charged a 10% gratuity since they bring you your food. And its not near the main pool. The main pool does have Siesta's which has hot dogs, a wrap and some other snack type things. But for my family, we prefer the food court to be a food court and near the main pool. Again, Pepper Market is delicious but I just didn't like the location of it. I also don't think they have as many kid friendly type selections at Pepper Market. This resort is a convention resort which is nice in that its not as crowded with kids and the pools are often deserted. However, the food selections reflect the adult crowd they are catering to imho.

Given the age of your daughters, I would pick Port Orleans French Quarter. That pool and slide is great for younger children, the food court and laundry room are right next to the main pool which is nice. And the resort is smaller and not so spread out. So you will have less walking. I love all the mods, have stayed at all of them but if I had young kids, I would probably go with POFQ.

I would second that. Plus you can always to POR for "something" different.

First, the PM does not bring you your food. When you walk into the PM, you are greeted by a host/hostess, they find you a table and you are seated. Then a server takes your drink order and brings you your drinks, refills, buses your table, condiments and coffee. For this you pay a 10% gratuity or to avoid the 10%, you can get your food to go and eat outside at the great tables overlooking the lake.

The PM has rib eye steak, prime rib and other great meal choices that come from a variety of station (Chinese, Italian, grill, salad) and their own bakery.

It may be more difficult to eat at the PM with young ones because you would have to get there food along with getting your own. But there are other options.

The Cafe Rix has hot "to go" items that can be eaten outside.

Siestas has many items and it's great to eat by the pool.

All CSR locations are on the DDP.

Check out the CSR FAQ Thread (part 3) for all the menus.

Okay, I was wrong about them bringing them the food, I probably remember that since they helped us since I was alone with kids and a disabled person. I sitll say POFQ for food for kids 2 and 3 is the better choice in my opinion. I realize that CSR has a very loyal following and its deserved. I love it too and for the age of my kids (11 and 13) I would pick that resort. However, I was answering the question based upon the OP's family and what I thought (based on my experience) might be the better choice. The OP asked specifically if the mod food courts are like the values. I don't find the CSR food court to be at all like the values. Which is good and bad. Siesta's has some great items but I still find that menu limited vs. a food court selection and again, the location of the Pepper Market to the pool is not great for me and I mentioned that as a specific thing of mine.

And I mentioned the delicious food that Pepper Market has and the steak. I understand that some people are extremely loyal to one resort and will go to great ends to prove their case. I was just trying to answer the question.

No one is arguing with you. I just corrected the one thing about the food and giving my opinion of CSR. There are other options besides the PM like Cafe Rix. Cafe Rix and Siestas fall under the category of quick eats. I also have stayed at POFQ. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the info. I'm still a relative 'newby' to all of this (our visit last June was the first with our children and we immediately fell in love), and I am really enjoying the info-sharing here. You've all been very helpful!
