Food and Wine?

Hah!

Death, taxes and this exact thread about 10 times a year. OP, your experience is not unique, unfortunately. The other posters here have given good info though!

We've gone to Food and Wine the last 9 years and have also never seen the behavior the OP is describing.

As others have said, weekday early afternoons are a great time for families. We were at Epcot on a Saturday in October and it was packed. Seemed like much more of a party scene than we were comfortable to be in with our kids. We kind of blamed ourselves for poor planning. If it was just DW and I, we would have been fine with the atmosphere.

went on the last day of the festival in november and didn't see a single drunk person. it also helps to go in the middle of the week, as opposed to weekends.
We avoid weekends and really enjoy F&W during the weekdays! Last couple of trips, flew in on a Saturday and didn't hit the festival till Monday. :dance3:

"Speaking" of F&W, does ANYONE have any idea as to when dates will be released? Mind boggling:scratchin to me as to why Disney can't release F&W dates very early in year, right after New Year.:confused3 Many of us like to plan in advance. Certainly, these dates are planned by Disney WAY in advance!

the last F&W we went to in 2016, we did see a few drunks, one lady was in the garden being sick at the boardwalk entrance while her two friends were laughing and carrying on, we also did see a few larger groups that had gathered around France and were drinking, being loud and swearing a lot but security was making a bee line for them, so we didn't hang around, we just headed to spaceship earth and the quieter areas. This was in late Sept on a Saturday night, during the week it was fine, so we now will avoid F&W on weekends this trip.
I also would love them to release the dates.....any news yet???

So out of curiosity I google food and wine and saw a few negative reports from disney bloggers regarding how its now become ....

" ...But my experience this year suggests that during Food & Wine, World Showcase becomes a playground for adults who arrived with the sole intention of getting hammered." (Laughingplace site).

So that concerns me how things may have changed in the last 2 years since we went, and is kinda making me rethink our F&W plans for September. I understand that adults do adult things, but I really hope that Disney has the security it needs to keep the fun safe for everyone.

But as always, YMMV.

That's an awfully expensive buzz and hangover. A few years back wifey and I slipped through the IG shortly after 11 am just to check out the scene. We enjoyed a Fisherman's Pie and Guinness in the Rose&Crown patio and observed a bunch of 20 somethings who were already spit faced. Apparently some folks arrive prelubricated.

I would hate to think how much $$$ it would cost to get totally plastered, especially for 2 of us. Would rather spend our money on a t-shirt, some mickey ears and a nice bag...at least I could remember them :) But I guess I'm not a 20 yr old anymore ......sad face.

I never question reports from DISers, you saw what you saw and your experiences were yours. That said, in 8 Food&Wine trips of from 8 to 10 park days we never saw what's described here and we're in WS every afternoon except for Sat. due to crowd size. I have seen a guest or 2 get snot slinging drunk but both times at a resort bar and not during F&W.

Well said and I agree with this. I have been every year for the past 6 or 7 years and have never experienced what you describe. I have seen large crowds at night on the weekend but to be honest, I'm usually so tired by then I just leave and either go to bed or go to another park. I spend part of every single day at Epcot during F&W and really haven't had any problems.

This is good to hear. I would love to enjoy it! I don't remember if we went on weekends or not, but I do know the first time was not pleasant and the second one even worse.
If you don't remember were you the drunk one vomiting in the grass?

Honestly OP, if you are that worried go on a weekday and be out by 6 or so. Wife and I have been a few times and the crowds definitely are different on weekends and night time.

Rude or an attempt at being funny?
We haven't been in a couple of years, so no- I don't remember what days of the week it was. We tried twice during the same trip, and when I mention to my family that I hear its great- they aren't wanting to go back. It was bad.
Due to medical issue with heat, we mostly avoid the afternoon heat, and prefer to go at dusk or evening.
Not worried- we can continue to avoid it but it does affect planning of the week, so trying to get some more information, thats all.
