Food and Wine Kiosks

The Sam Adams beer flight is a good deal. And at the German beer garden, I really liked the grapefruit beer.

question about the grapefruit beer - was it very beer tasting, or more like a malt beverage (smirnoff, mike's, etc). i dislike beer very much, but would try it if it didn't taste like a typical beer.

It did not taste like a typical beer (the grapefruit was evident) but I wouldn't say it tasted like a malt beverage either.

Get a 6 oz tasting portion and try it - it helps if you bring along someone who will finish it if it's not to your taste.

I loved the grapefruit beer! It is very sweet and really did not taste of beer much at all IMO. You really need to like the taste of grapefruit to like it though I think. If so, I encourage anyone to try it!

thanks to you both, i think i'll give the 6 oz a try. i'll be solo though, so if i don't end up liking it, no one to pawn it off on :)

If they are not busy, you may be able to ask if they will give you just a taste. I wouldn't try it if they are busy though.

The souvenir mugs sold in WS are designed for guests to fill and walk around with, so they are plastic. Guests are not permitted to walk around with glass containers, for obvious reasons. You may be able to buy actual glass at the Festival Center but you will not be able to drink from it while walking around the park.

My fisherman's pie had a huge chunk of lobster in it, which didn't impress me because I am not a fan of lobster and was hoping for small pieces. The potato part was better in prior years, won't get one again.

Thanks, I can handle carrying a plastic mug around!!

It took us two days to get through Food and Wine:

Faves:
Brewer's Collection - Schofferhofer Grapefruit Beer - this was really good
Desserts and Champagne - trio of Orange Cake, Lemon Custard and Dark Chocolate Mousse(loved the spice at the bottom!)
Florida Local - Pork and Corn Salad
France - Coq qu vin and Creme Brulee
Germany - Apple Strudel
Greece - Greek Cheese with honey and pistachio - this was really good ended up going back for more!
Hops and Barley - Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder soup
Ireland - Lobster and Seafood Pie and (my fave) chocolate lava cake with Irish Cream
Morocco - Kefta Pocket and Merguez Sausage
New Zealand - Lamb Meatball
Canada - Ice Wine and cheddar cheese soup redeemed itself this year(last year too salty)
Scandinavia - Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries
Terra- Chilli Colorado and chocolate cake
Belgium- Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream

Misses:
Hawaii - Pork Slider had no taste Tuna poke - just gross and the mai tai had more alcohol than being flavorful
Italy - Ravioli was good last year this year was not good
Australia - Lamb Chop first time we went it was sold out so we went at 11am and it was undercooked (just think real raw meat :crazy2:)
Caribbean - Chicken Drumstick - at least the chicken was cooked this year but the seasoning was just runny

OK. More from the last few days

Hawaii - Port Slider. Amazingly I liked this. Wasn't at all sure but it had a good taste and texture.
Caribbean - Ropa Vieja. Another one I went into kind of "hmm..." but turned out to like!
Ireland- Fisherman Stew. repeated and this one was SO much better then my first try, so glad I did it again! :)
Germany - Apple Strudel Yummy!

This is long but we just got back and wanted to get them down before I forgot:)

Argentina
Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri – Very good, nice size portion

Australia
Shrimp on the Barbie – bland, greasy and underdone, would not get again
Grilled Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto - delicious

Canada
Cheddar Cheese Soup – Soup from LeCellier, good but tiny portion
Mushroom Filet – Nice size portion but my portion was very fatty
Mission Hill Syrah – great wine but teeny tiny portion
Moosehead Beer – hubby loved it

Caribbean
Jerk Spiced Chicken – Wonderful, good combination of flavors
Dragon Berry Colada – Yummy, generous serving, my favorite drink

Cheese
Fondue – Very good, generous portion
Trio of Cheeses – wonderful, all were delicious
Sterling Sauvigion Blanc – Very good, paired well with all cheeses, great value

China
Pork Pot Stickers – Very good, DD’s favorite
Happy Lychee – it may have been the heat but this was too strong for me. Very generous serving but tasted like straight Vodka to me

France
Coq au Vin – huge portion and delicious, my favorite dish
Cosmo Slush – refreshing and delicious
Pomegranate Kir – dry, crisp and fruity, wonderful and good size portion

Greece
Greek Salad – nice portion, very refreshing in the heat, very good

Hops & Barley
Lobster Roll – Very good, not too much mayonnaise and paired well with the slightly sweet roll
Pumpkin Mousse – good, do not remember too much about it
Beer Flight – Sam Adams Lager, Seaonal, Cherry Wheat and Chocolate Bock, DH liked them all but thought the Chocolate Bock was the winner

Ireland
Lobster and Seafood Pie – Good size portion and very, very good, DH’s favorite and a close second for my favorite
Cheese Selection – I may be biased because I buy these at home all the time but still absolutely delicious
Chocolate Lava cake – good but tiny, one bite portion
Honey Wine – good, but a little too sweet, even for a dessert wine

Italy
Ravioli – Huge portion, very good

Mexico
Shrimp Taco – Very good, light and refreshing
Taco De Filete – also very good, a little spicy but not overwhelming

South Africa
Seared Filet – delicious, much better then the filet in Canada in my opinion
Fairview Sauvignon Blanc – very goo, paired well with beef and sweet potatoes, generous portion

Japan
Spicy Hand Roll – Delicious, DS’s favorite of the trip, not to be missed
Strawberry Sake – Very good, huge portion, sweet and refreshing

Completely agree with this! It was more like grapefruit juice than beer. More like a grapefruit lambic. I loved it. That and the chocolate bock were my faves as far as the beer goes.

Reading All these reviews I just can't wait to get there, We will be at the MK for 7 nights and I think 5 of those will be over at EPCOT.:cool1:

Ok some more reviews here - EVERYTHING was a hit yesterday! Glad I read this thread before hitting the booths again.

Canada- cheddar cheese soup - great flavors, very rich and just wonderful! I love this dish!
Canada - beef filet - Oh my this has to be the most wonderful thing I have eaten at Food and Wine:goodvibes - the beef was cooked perfectly, very tender, the wild mushrooms and truffle oil gave such an amazing rich flavor - truly YUM.
Mexico - shrimp taco - this was a total hit! I went to this one primarily because it got good reviews here and it did not disappoint. The flavors in this dish are great - shrimp perfect, great flavor, slaw crispy and cool and something spicy, and lime - all together a wonderful combination.::yes:: And I am picky about tacos.
Ireland - chocolate lava cake - loved this - wanting a chocolate finish and this totally gave that to me - very chocolaty but somewhat light for what I was expecting in looking at it. It was really perfect. The portion is tiny but for me just fine as I had just finished the beef and soup in Canada which were very rich.

Wonderful thread!! Getting very excited to leave in just 16 days!! Are they still offering the free Sam Adams beer tasting?

Sorry, no more free tastings.

But the Sam Adams beer flight is a good deal - four 6 oz beers for $10 (you don't get to pick which ones though - it's Boston Lager, Oktoberfest, Cherry Wheat and Chocolate Bock.)

If you do the math, that's 24 oz of beer for $10, when buying a 22 oz of just one beer will cost you $12.

We went the first 2 days, things we tried

Argentina -Beef Empanda,-loved it
Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree, It wasn’t bad but was no where near our favorite, i actually like the bomiato puree better then the beef

Australia Shrimp on the Barbie with Pepper Berry Citrus Glaze-this was one of our favorites we were tempted to go back and get a second the glaze was amazing

Canada -Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup-this was good but very filling and it was really hot out that day so we didn’t enjoy it as much as we did in the restaurant
"Le Cellier" Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon with Truffle Butter Sauce-the first day it was good rare and it was delicious the next day it was cooked more towards the well done side and it was good but not as good as the first day

Caribbean -Jerk-spiced Chicken Drumstick with Mango Chutney-the chicken was good but my favorite part of it was the mango chutey

Cheese -Cheese Fondue with Sourdough Bread-again it was good but with it being so hot out I did not enjoy this as much as I would have on a cooler day

China -Pork Potstickers-we had these last year and had to get them again and again they did not disappoint
Happy Lychee with Vodka-I got nervous when I saw them pour the vodka on top of this it would be way to strong (which it was) but once I mixed it up you could not taste the alcohol and it was delicious

Desserts and Champagne -Yogurt Panna Cotta with Orange Cake, Raspberries and Pomegranate, Lemon Custard Verrine with Blueberry Compote, Dark Chocolate Mousse with Chili and Salted Caramel, -got this as a trio dark chocolate mousse was my favorite, followed by the yogurt, then the lemon custard

Florida Local -White Corn Arepa with Mangalitsa Pork Rilette and Zellwood Sweet Corn Salad,-Highly disappointing did not taste like it was cooked properly worst thing we ate, the only thing we did not finish
Florida Shrimp Ceviche with Fire Roasted Vegetables, Fried Plantains and Cilantro-loved it except the plantains again did not taste like they were cooked correctly

France -Escargots Persillade en Brioche – this was the reason we came back this year we love love love the escargot
Creme Brulee au Chocolate au Lait-had this last year was not impressed but I love crème brulee so I figured I would give it a second try still a disappointment. The do not fire the top enough
Eifel Sour Cosmo Slush-It was good I can't say much else because i downed it so quick since it was so hot ( not the smartest idea)

Germany -Apple Strudel with Karamel-Vanilla Sauce-very good, you can really taste the caramel

Hawaii -Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise- I am not a huge prok fan so I am doing off of DF review in which he said it was very good
Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips-this was my favorite dish, the tuna was marinated perfectly and the seaweed salad is excellent, I even loved the lotus root chips

Japan -Spicy Hand Roll (Tuna & Salmon with Chili Pepper, Soy Sauce & Sesame Oil Topped with Kazan Volcano Sauce-I will admit I am a sushi snob and was worried how this would be it was very very good. We had to wait a bit for it and it was worth the wait

New Zealand -Seared Sea Scallop with Kumara Red Curry Puree and Apple Radish Salad,-the scallop was cooked perfectly but did not seem to go with the red curry puree on the bottom
Lamb Meatball with Spicy Tomato Chutney-it was good I just wish when Disney says something is spicy it would actually be spicy.

South Africa
-Seared Filet of Beef with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce-DF has been to South Africa and had it there and he said it was comparable

I will hopefully be starting my trip report this weekend which will have all the pictures of the food/drink we ate

Last night I did some repeats

Canada - Soup GREAT
Filet GROSS! The first one I had was wonderful. This one was overcooked, and the mushrooms/truffle oil mess was just that, a mess. Left a horrid taste in my mouth which luckily was washed out with....
Ireland - Lava Cake YUMMY! This one had more 'lava' then my first one :)

While i haven't been doing drink reviews the Strawberry Line Maragrita in Mexico is very refreshing, Not much tequila IMHO (I tasted none and felt none :rotfl2:) If you want a drink with a kick head to LaCava :)

Hope I'm doing this right... first time posting reviews.

Did a quick day trip w/sis for her Bday, & had a great [although stifingly HOT] day! Will be back 10/29-10/30 w/hubby for 13th wedding anniversay!!... WOO HOO!!!... CAN'T WAIT!!!

ARGENTINA:
empanada... I don't eat this, but e'one else in our party [8] LOVED this!
beef skewer... amazing! great flavor, tender, ok size portion [will do again!]

AUSTRALIA:
shrimp skewer... OMG YUM!! sweet w/a bit of a spicey bite [will do again X2!]

CANADA:
beer was yummy!! unfortunately by the time we got all the way around to Canada... were too stuffed to eat anything else & stuck to alcohol... LOL!!! but heard GREAT things bout filet AND cheese soup... will DEF do those on next trip!

CHINA:
pot stickers... again, I don't eat but my party went NUTS! got 2-3 each!!
Mongolian beef... meat had great flavor, I just picked that off sandwich.

GERMANY:
schinkin nudel [noodles w/cheese & ham] OMG rich, cheesy & YUUUUMY!!!
apple strudel... nieces boyfriend INHALED this!!! need I say more?!!

ITALY:
ravioli... ok, I mean good enough... but not great for almost 6 bucks!
cannoli... good... bakery quality I would say... not particularly memorable

JAPAN:
california roll... our sushi lovers "liked" it... nothing special
Karaage hand [crispy ckn] roll... non sushi fans in our party loved this.
Kirin Ichiban... my FAVE beer at festival!! wish they had a Japan sovineer cup.

MEXICO:
lines were waaaay too long!! It's the usual 1st stop for visitors so the wait time was just ridiculous!!, will try again next time FOR SURE!... BUT... we skipped b'fast & were starving so went into regular Mexico "casual" restaurant and nachos were AMMMMAZING!! e'one loved guacomole too!

POLAND:
pierogie sampling was yummy, but seriously tiny portion... 2 tiny slices of kielbasa & one small dumpling... DEF NOT worth $5.00 pricetag!!

SCANDINAVIA:
only tried the swedish meatballs... glad I did, they were sweet & yummy!!

SOUTH AFRICA:
OMG... the line was CRAAAAZY!!! could not take the time, as we only had a limited time there, but e'thing I heard coming from people led me to believe I had better not miss the filet next time around... can't wait!

I'll post again in few weeks.

Does anyone know what countries are available in the souvineer beer steins? I have the one with the Festival design from a year or two ago, Germany & Canada... what am I missing? can you buy JUST mugs?

Have fun y'all... almost impossible not to, even w/heat & crowds!!!

webbmomstaxi -great first post, I'm marking some of your favs down, we will be there next Friday for a week and plan to try food and bev at each country.

I know Craft Beers, Hops and Barley, and Belgium all have the mugs. They are not unique to the kiosk though. They are all the same. I don't know if you can just get the mug but for around $12, 22 ozs of beer with a mug included is a good value, IMO, by Disney standards. Especially considering many places had 10 ozs for around $6, no mug.

There are others with the mugs but these are the ones where we got the mugs.
