We've checked a wide variety of food items from a case of beverages to a half of ham, the bag with the ham did get opened by security but we got everything through without incident.
Be careful with liquid beverage in your checked luggage. If the explode or crack open not only will they make a mess of your things they may damage or make a mess out of your fellow passengers luggage and belongings.
Echoing ancestry - be very, very, VERY careful with any liquids in checked luggage. Use multiple layers of zip-top plastic bags. Your fellow passengers thank you - and remember, liquids are heavy.
Be careful about going over weight limits. As others have already said....be wary of exploding or just popping cans/bottles. Many have had to deal with another passengers checked bag explosion....various types of liquids all over everyone else's bags. Not a good thing to find.
In any case...I never recommend carting soda or even water all the way down to WDW. You could always get a cab over to the Hess Station behind BW and grab water/soda there. Or just take a bus from a park to BW and then walk across the street to the Hess Station.
But that seems to be a lot of work to avoid paying Disney prices for soda/water/groceries. But, I wouldn't want to be lugging checked bags full of liquids around either.
Please reconsider sending liquids through checked baggage. What if there is a break/leak and your "pop" sprays all over your stuff and that of the other passengers? Please use a delivery service if you must!
Do you realize just how much luggage gets tossed around? Think of what happens when you shake a soda can.
We like to order from Garden Grocer. No lugging our stuff through the airport (you do have to get the bag to the airline in the first place even if DME will pick it up for you from MCO) or worrying about leaking/exploding cans. We do some dry goods in our luggage (gotta love SWA's baggage policy) and just get perishibles and liquids from Garden Grocer. One note: Every bag we've ever brought with food in it has been opened by TSA. There's something about the food that I guess warrants further inspection. There's no harm in this, just pointing it out.
