I am allergic to fish/shellfish,flax, so anything omaga even eggs. How good are the chefs at actually looking at ingrediants,? Also when it comes to bread is their allergy safe bread served and where?normally I bake my own,

They are excellent! Our family has multiple allergies and has not had a problem. One of the few places we can go out to eat!

I'm just abit worried as my allergies have became life threating before it was just risky[rash, asthma etc]. It's been getting worse the last few years,Last week I had a really bad reaction to cross contamination to flax,my throat started to close and I swelled, I'm sure it would scare my kids and ruin the fun,

We have found the chefs at Disney to be excellent when it comes to accommodating our daughter's food allergies. She is anaphylactic and we have never, in 22 years and over 40 Disney trips, had a problem. Even on the Disney cruises we have done, the chefs have gone above and beyond anywhere else we have ever dined. She always carries an Epi pen with her, too.

I understand how scary it is to go to a restaurant and to leave your fate in the chef's hands. I also understand having control of everything at home and having to hand that over to a chef.

Based on everyone's reviews, I had to let go and give Disney a try, and let them show me what they could do for my DD7 and her allergies. She's gluten/casein free.

I was VERY impressed with how Disney has educated their staff and taken over how they deal with allergies. The first day home, my DD cried, saying she missed her "personal chefs"!!

Having said this, it's still VERY important if something doesn't seem right, to speak up and ask. They are human, so be proactive for yourself and ask questions.

EVERY counter/kiosk/cart has a notebook that lists out the ingredients used in the products that you can consumer there. They are instructed to show you the notebook and for you to more or less clear the item before ordering it. Some of the managers are able to offer suggestions, but the cart/kiosk CMs were not allowed to offer suggestions, just show you the book and let you decide.

All of the bread that we came across was the EnerG tapioca breads/rolls, buns, etc.

my son(8yr old) is in the severely allergic to all shellfish and fish category. Crosscontamination has caused many terrible reactions with him. So I have to be diligent. We have done Disney and Disney Cruiseline with him at least 2twice a year since he was born.

Most of the chefs came out to the table and asked me about what I could and couldn't eat. I never had a problem with revising menu items.
At the buffets, one of the chefs walked me thru and told me what to stay away from. I always have my EpiPen just incase, but I worry alot less about eating out when I am at Disney then I do anywhere else.

The seafood they will easily know but the flax is way more complicated because it's not as typical. Definitely fill in the form for special diets and fax it back so they cand check ingredients. I don't eat flax but cross contam hasn't been an issue for me. IN the past the regular multigrain buns did have flax but I haven't bothered to recheck lately because they also have soy. EnerG tapioca buns are the allergy bread they normally will serve and their website has ingredients if you want to preview. They also use Amy's pizza which doesn't work for me can't remember if it has flax or sunflower or both but Amy's has ingredients on their site too. For buffets where there are so many processed foods they usually make me something of my own like grilled meats or for breakfast an omelet and then a few sides. There are quick service places in each park that carry allergy safe foods and even better are the resortquick service places because they have real kitchens and extra foods so they have more to offer.

For unusual allergies / intolerances I've found you need to be a bit more careful as some of these are new the chefs. For instance I can't have anything that converts to fructose - one breakfast they offered fruit and bacon.... well fruit is full of fructose and bacon is normally cured in sugar - the chef argued but when I instead he checked and yes it was cured with sugar :headache:

So the moral of the story is question everything - they don't want to make you sick :goodvibes

I've had wonderful meals at WDW - just remember the chefs are human ;)
