Food Allergy question

Last year I made all my dining reservations online and was able to check a box about my food allergy when I was making those reservations (and then at restaurants someone always came out to speak with me before I ordered), however this year I made our dining reservations several months in advance and totally overlooked checking the box to note on the reservations that I have a food allergy. I've tried to go back and add it to my dining reservations, without success, is this not possible now? Is it something that you can't add to your reservation online?

I should have paid more attention when I originally made the reservations, I was just excited cause we are trying new places and I made the reservations on the very first day that I could, but now that I've gone back to double check the reservations I see the allergy wasn't noted and there seems to be no way to add it to the reservations now.

Is there anything I can do to have it noted on the reservation or should I just mention it when we arrive at the restaurants? I thought restaurants probably appreciate a heads-up on those kinds of things so that's why I usually note it when I make online reservations.

You can email them at specialdiets@disneyworld.com and they can put it on the reservation or call the dining line and add it on too. As long as you tell the hostess when you get to the restaurants you should be all set. Have a great trip!

There is no need to email. You can simply tell the hostess at check in and she will make a note of it and it will print out on the slip they give to the server.

I would definitely contact special diets ahead of time and have them add your food allergy notation to your ressies. As long as you have your confirmation numbers this is a quick and easy process.

If you wait until until you get there and simply tell the hostess, the restaurant cannot be prepared for your visit. While I'm sure they all have some non-allergy things available, you will be stuck with what they've got, if they've got it.

Once, a chef at Artist Point explained to me how the system works. You make a ressie, and the allergy is noted. Then, each restaurant, about two weeks out, gets a list of upcoming ressies, special dietary needs like allergies are highlighted. (Of course, they get daily updates, but the two week heads up gives them time to plan -- for regular diners as well as ones with special dietary needs.)

This chef told me that if he knows that for example, there are a lot of gluten-free diners coming, he may make some special things just for them and/or order more gluten-free rolls to have on hand.

Giving them the information in advance helps them to make our experiences at WDW magical. That's why my family and I keep coming back!

Actually it depends on what your allergic to. I have a soy allergy and not all restaurants were able to accommodate me almost all disney establishments use a cooking spray with soy lecithin and I react to some versions of soy lecithin best to not take chances since I'm also anaphalactic. Email the dining person for allergies and also follow up with the restaurant 2 days ahead. Try to preplan your meal so if they need to get special ingredients they will try to accommodate you. Otherwise you may just have to eat something you don't' want. I'll tell you almost all of Disneys desserts contain soy in some form. It was all raspberry sorbet with fresh berries not that I'm complaining I was a happy camper lol.

Make sure you carry any needed meds like benadryl or epipen with you.

My wife has celiac disease. I didn't tell them in advance. Most of her meals were better then mine. She got some crazy dish at Ohana. It was so good. Most restaurants the chef came out and asked what she would like to eat. She would say anything would be fine. It seemed like they got adventurous with her meals when she was open about it. I would not worry, they will make sure you are happy.

We're going to the world gluten-free, nut-free, and soy-free for the VERY FIRST time. We're also meat free. We've done FINE as vegetarians in the world, but this trip is quite a bit more restrictive. I emailed special diets with our restrictions (and a food list of things that were generally safe for us to have). All of our meals will be TS or eaten/brought from the room (we'll have a fridge and car, so we'll be bringing some items from home, and doing some Publix-ing right after we check in) :goodvibes

Just yesterday I found Coconut Aminos. This is a GREAT alternative to soy sauce, and it's organic and raw. It's.SO.good. :goodvibes I found it at the health food store for like... $7-ish, and the best part is that it's shelf-stable for 3 years (or you can refrigerate it to get rid of a little bit of the fizz from the fermentation)! It is COMING to Disney with us :goodvibes I actually have it with me at work today to use as a salad dressing. :goodvibes
