I just learned the hard way that my son is allergic to fish...after a fish dinner at home one night his throat swelled up, his face and lips bloated...yes this was not a fun learning experience. I've made reservations at the various restaurants we will go to during our visit to WDW already, but now I am nervous. These are the places we have resvs for--Ohana, Chef Mickey, Biergarten, 50's Cafe, and Crystal Place. All are either lunch or dinner. Are there any that have lots of fish being served? He can be around fish, just if the food gets cross contaminated somehow (oils, juices). If any one has any advice please share!

There is a phone number you can call to discuss food allergies. I wish I still had it, but they like you to call around 10 days prior to your trip. I would think skipping a buffet would be a good idea just because you never know if a guest will mix up a tong or scoop or something. At a sit down restaurant they can really help you.

**My son is allergic to turkey..strange I know....we were at 'Ohana and the girl came by with a skewer and asked the kids if they'd like chicken. I said- oh good it's chicken, I thought it was supposed to be turkey. She says - Oh yeah it is turkey, I just say chicken so kids will eat it. :confused3

Do you have an epi pen? If not you should get one prescribed and be sure to have it with you.

I have allergies to Shell fish and mushrooms ... and fully enjoyed my last stay

First thing you should do is call the dining # and have them add the allergy to your ADR's (You can do this when booking online ADR's to)

This will alert the Chef's/Servers to allergies and the Chef will come out and explain your options. Even at buffets the Chef's walked me dish by dish and told me what was safe .... even if the restaurant wasn't serving shellfish/mushrooms they came out to make sure I was OK.

My only concern was when going to buffets and if someone mixed the serving utensils. I was relieved to see that they kept the meats & seafood separate.

Disney does an awesome job making sure there is no cross contamination.

Send an email to WDW.Special.Diets@disney.com saying that you have a food allergy in your party and they will email you a form to fill out with your ADR's to send back to them. I also would call the regular dining phone number and have them make a note of it on your ADR's in the computer. When you check in at the restaurant, you should also tell the hostess about the food allergy just to have all the bases covered.

My DD is allergic to eggs, we went through this last time and will be doing it again soon.

I do not have allergic reactions / anaphylactic shock, but I, DS and DD do have food sensitivities (Wheat, Dairy and some others). When you get there, be sure to tell the host/hostess and server. I think every place I requested, the Chef came out to speak with me. WDW does an excellent job to accommodate food issues and even make special meals for you (Gluten Free, Dairy Free deserts, dinner rolls, watch cross contamination) and will point out on the buffet what has what.
