Food allergies

Hi,

We are going to Disneyland this summer with my food allergic daughter. Our last two trips to Disney World were terrific in terms of allergies. I got in touch with Brenda Bennett at DW who sent us tons of information on special food items, where they are available and other helpful information for food allergic guests. Does anyone know who I can in touch with at Disneyland for similar information? Would appreciate a phone number or email address beyond just the dining reservation number. Thanks.

My son has several food allergies and I had a harder time at Disneyland. I couldn't track down anyone that could help me ahead of time, they just told me to ask for leads and chefs at the restaurants. The chef at Goofy's was very accomodating and made my son his own special meal, but I had a really hard time at counter service restaurants. No one seemed to know for sure what foods were safe. He has milk, egg, and nut allergies and the girl at the pretzel cart checked her ingredient box for me and found those to be safe, so my little guy had a lot of pretzels for meals.... I packed fruit and veggie cups to bring with us and kept him on his formula until after our trip. How old is your daughter? What are her allergies?

I'm not sure who you can call, but I know you can ask at City Hall for a list of safe foods available at counter service restaurants.

I second Goofys. We had an amazing chef there, but I can't remember his name. He was just fantastic, he got me a special dessert from out the back as none were safe, offered to cook anything, came out several times to check if everything was ok and if we needed anything.

Rainforest Cafe were EXCELLENT too, the manager looked after us both times we went, making sure all the food we ordered was safe to eat.

Storytellers were ok too, the chef came out and said what was ok and what wasn't.

You really just have to speak to each restaurant when you get there and they will look after you. WDW is an extreme place when it comes to handling food allergies. I have travelled all over the world and there is NOWHERE like WDW when it comes to handling allergies. At DL you just have to do what you do in everyday life, read labels, ask what is safe. You won't experience WDW allergy handling anywhere else sadly.
PS. Don't to got Disneyland Paris with a food allergy (peanut is the worst). It is a nightmare for eating!!!!!!

What else did you find that your son was able to have? I have a 10yo DS who is also allergic to dairy, eggs, and nuts.

mathmom32- He was only 14 months, so it wasn't as difficult as it would be with an older child, but I did give him hotdogs without buns (I was told the buns had milk and eggs), burgers without buns (no one knew if the hamburger buns were safe or not). I find Mexican food the most accomodating as you can do just a flour tortilla and beans and veggies if needed. The pretzels and frozen lemonade made good treats. Oh and we thought about later, that we could have done a plain grilled chicken breast too. We drove so we brought our own bread, our local grocery store has milk free/egg free bakery bread for $1.00!!! So grateful for that. I also took whole wheat crackers for him to eat with the plain meat to help fill him up. Plus the fruit and veggie cups. Good luck! I would guess most of the table service restaurants will be helpful. McDonald's hamburger buns are milk and egg free so that might be useful if you want to go across the street.

The list someone else talked about is only for gluten free, as far as I know.

Very disappointing to hear as we'll be at DLR in July with soy-allergic dd15. WDW is the only place where she and I aren't stressed about food, and we were hoping that DLR would be the same. It's much more difficult to make changes/substitutions with a teenager than a toddler...

I really wouldn't worry, honestly , I have a life threatening allergy to peanuts and many tree nuts (the peanut allergy is airbourne too so just steam off a satay meal nearby is enough to give me an anaphylactic reaction). Disneyland does still take allergies seriously, they just don't have somebody specific to call beforehand and besides WDW I have never come across anywhere else in the WORLD that does that. People just get spoilt by WDW's incredible services for people with allergies, but this is not normal and it does not exist anywhere like it does at WDW.

At Disneyland the chef will come out and see you at TS restaurants, they will make special things for you that are not on a buffet or menu to accommodate you, they will help you to avoid your allergen. I didn't have any more trouble eating at DL than at WDW, I just didn't have the preplanning, it was done whilst there, but it was still addressed at each place we ate at and taken seriously.

You will still have a stress free holiday as they will assist you with your allergy, just not in a preplanning way like at WDW. You will just have to wait until you are at the restaurant or shop to find out what you can and can not eat and once you find what is ok, then you know what to look for.
