Just wondering if anyone has traveled to disney that has food allergies. I called Disney regarding our upcoming march vacation and mentioned that I have horrible food allergies and was worried because I didnt know what I would be able to eat. The CSR was wonderful, she told me that when I make my Dining Ressies just tell them of my allergies and they will prepare a special menu just for me. She said the cheif will come out and talk to me and explain the menu and prepare anything I want. Now this sounds just too good to be true, but hay this is disney. The best place on earth! Has anyone experienced this?

When my son was diagnosed with nut, sesame and some more allergies 3 days prior to a Disney trip, my pediatrician told me the one safe place to travel to was Disney! She was so right! We have been twice since then and have had no trouble whatsoever! We had dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe and it was the first time a waitstaff person ever responded appropriately when we mentioned food allergies. She brought the chef out who made a list of the foods and what we were considering ordering, and he came back out and told us what he could make without those ingredients and what he couldn't. I think this is pretty standard treatment at the table service places. I would recommend that if you have time you contact the restaurants ahead of time so that you don't have to wait when you are hungry and wanting to order. Have a great time! :goodvibes

My DW loves going to WDW since she has so many food allergies. The chef always comes out and talks with her and they always are extremely accomodating. She has Celiacs (gluten-free) and is allergic to soy, shellfish, strawberries, watermelon, most vinegars, and is a vegetarian. Most restaurants near our home cannot accomodate her, but Disney can!

We mentioned when we booked our ADR for the Garden Grill about my cheese allergy (migrain trigger) as the food is brought to your table and it's a fairly set menu. The chef came out to talk to me about my alergy and all they did for this meal was put the crutons separate instead of on the salad as they had cheese on them.

Disney were great about such a mild allergy (it's not what I would call for me life threatening just very painful/uncomfortable!) so I'm sure you will be fine.

I have experienced this, Disney (and DCL) is the best. Check out similar stories over on the disABILITIES forum here at the DIS.

My sister has celiac disease and went with us to WDW last December. We would tell our waiters that she had an allergy issue and the chef would quickly appear to speak with her table side. She was thrilled with the fact that the chefs knew what celiac disease was (no wheat or gluten) and that they could be soooo accommodating! She gave WDW's restaurants a thumbs up. Counter service places have ingredient lists if you ask the CM.

Happy Eating!

We travelled to WDW with my brother-in-law's family(wife, 2 DDs), who are vegan, and they had no problems. The chefs were very helpful at breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, and dinners at Norway and the Yacht Club Galley. They did fix some of their meals in their room (we had a DVC 2BDRM), but were able to even find food at most of the quick service locations. They were overall impressed - they didn't think they'd be able to find any food and had packed enough for the whole week!

Disney goes above and beyond to accomodate everyone. It's one reason we keep going back!

We've travelled to DW many many times with our 9yo ds who has allergies to tree nuts, coconut and palm oil and Disney goes above and beyond to make sure he has safe food to eat - the chef always comes out to discuss his options and make recommendations for us. A few of the restaurants have even made him a 'special' desert!

It isn't too go to be true! They are WONDERFUL!!!!!!! My dd(90 has Celiac and EVERY place including counter service came out to talk to us. They all were wonderful! She had so much good food to eat ad DH and I sat at almost every meal commenting on how nice it was not to have to worry about her.
She didn't ever get sick!
the only place that a chef didn't come out and talk to us was Chef De France. The waitress told us what he could make for her. We were a bit upset because every other chef had come out so the precedence was already set. The food was fabulous and she was safe so no harm done at all but like I said it was the whole precedence thing.

When I saw my guide this weekend she asked how our trip was and I told her about Chef De France and she was also surprised since she also has Celiac. We all agreed the important thing is she didn't get sick!

So go enjoy and relax!

YES WE HAVE. All three of our kids have a peanut allergy and my one son also has a tree nut allergy. SO we do have the chef come out. They are wonderful too. They will make special stuff so not to cross contaminate, if it is a buffet they will walk around with you to tell you what is safe or what to avoid. WE have been to WDW 14 times and have done extremely well. Even the cm's at the vendor carts have little booklets to look up their items to see if they are safe. Also, they even had allergy free cookies at the Christmas party this yeare. Disney is great with food allergies. Have fun.

YEP us too. :thumbsup2

I have some significant and unique food allergies. Not the normal kind. Disney is the perfect place to go. I have so much trouble and risk eating out at home. Just don’t be afraid to let the staff know and work with them. You will have such a nice trip. The cast members have never made me feel bad about having to deal with my allergies. GO and Have fun. You will leave thinking how nice it would be if you could have this kind of caring service at home!!

My DH is lactose intolerant and Disney is the one place that he does not have to worry about what he is eating. They are so accomodating when it comes to preparing the food special for him. And he loves that they always have his ice cream as well!

mind are different too - and Disney does okay - but since all chefs use Pepper - it is hard for them not to use it.

one reason why love DVC - can cook what I can eat and not have to wait for an hour or more.

pepper
rye (migraine)
oats
most vegetables (exception - lettuce, green beans, corn, other forms of lettuce)
all shell fish
all fish (except - flounder, white fish, etc - if it doesn't have a real flavor then I can eat it)
Bananas
pork

Pepper is the main problem - it makes me sick.... like food poison.

disney can do it - but it takes them longer. Understand to prevent cross polluted - they have to clean everything. since they were just a few people with pepper allergy and chef put pepper in everything - this is a big problem.

still I hate to wait an hour or more.... so that is one reason why I love DVC - can actually cook my own meals. with me - saves time and money. can understand why some of you prefer to let Disney cook your meals.

If you come to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, in post #3, you will find a section with resources for special diets/food allergies. There is some contact information and some links to past threads that may be helpful.

The disABILITIES FAQs thread is near the top of the disABILITIES Board, or you can use the link in my signature to get there.

That's great news.... do you know if the ingredients are listed anywhere online?? We leave Saturday and are doing the party on Sunday and it would be great to know if I need to take cookies for ds or if they will have something other then apples!

Let me see if I can do a search for them. The chef at Artist Palette also gave my daughter those to try too. I would recognize them if I see them on line. Let me check.
