Food Allergies

Thank you very much for the info posted here. I am newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease (a month before our next trip). I had no idea how to go about following my diet in WDW, so I emailed Brenda with the info I found here and she has been wonderful. I am all set with the chefs for my ADRs and she and the MK executive chef were kind enough to send a list of ingredients for some of the quick service locations.

BTW-for gluten free people like myself, they advised they now have gluten free hotdog and hamburger rolls (EnerG brand) at cosmic rays, so I can get a burger!!!

Thank you all again. I was not sure about posting here, as I wasn't sure this was the place for me, since I am not truly disabled and saw someone else get a not so nice reply when asking about TMJ.

You have been very helpful to me. Now if I could only figure out how to make corn spaghetti noodles taste decent, I will be all set. :)

My son has multiple food allergies (egg, nuts and soy are 3 of the 15) and we have done several successful WDW trips.

I highly reccomend sit down meals. All the chefs have been truly amazing! We have had special batches of fries made for my son in canola rather than the soybean oil that they use EVERYWHERE! Egg free pancakes at all the breakfasts were just perfect. Lots of special attention for my little guy.

Counter service is harder, but doable. Do ask for the binder and plan for a little extra time to flip through it. Brenda is awesome and gave us great information...contact her for sure!

I do bring a lot with me because our allergy list is so long, but honestly there is no place on earth besides WDW that we can eat out without worries.

Have fun!

Last of all, please never rely on information posted on these boards or from a prior trip. Always ask for the updated lists.

Excellent advice - things do change a lot!

I always ask about fried foods now - twice I reacted after eating a 'veggie' taco salad and with the help of a persistent chef finally figured out that the taco shell is fried with chicken fingers.

I was also disturbed to find out at DL last week that the Blue Bayou veggie meal is actually cooked on the same grill as the meats, and then baked with pork chops. They will change out the grill on request only, but that shows that you do need to take the time to ask.

This is all so great. I have a peanut and tree nut allergy son, and I have always called Disney to speak with the chefs and always talked to them at the resturants. But it is good to know I can call and get info on the CS meals too, now. My mother has a gluten allergy and she still doesn't accept it and has a hard time finding something to eat. I have told her about calling before the trip or speaking with them when she gets there and still has a hard time doing it. She just doesn't think there is anything for her to eat. I am going to show her this thread so she can see there is food for her there, no matter where she is at.

Thanks so much for the great information! I have contacted Brenda and she assured me that all would be ready for him!

I LOVE pop with my food allergies!!!

Ask for Chef Michael,
Chef Kristen or Mitch They are ALL amazing and will make some FANTASTIC meals that are safe! There are a few new chefs there I am not as fond of, but those three absolutely rock! Deb is also great, just not as creative!

Recently got back from AKL My 13 yo ds has many allergies - milk, milk products, peanuts, shrimp being the worse and we were very happy about the food and service he received in many of the restaurants.
At Liberty Tree Taverns had been emailed by the chef the week we were there but he came out and made a wonderful plate for him. Even mashed potatoes made with turkey stock and an Itzkadoozy for desert.
At Teppanyaki in Epcot had his plate prepared seperately so he had no cross contamination (was a problem once at different hibachi restaurant) and even found out one of the sauces he can't have(never knew before)
At Boma chef talked us through the whole buffet and made him some couscous with nothing in it.
We even found out that CS would make him a pizza with no cheese where pizza was on the menu. and there is a chef in charge of allergy questions that they got for us several times. He never ate so much out with No reactions.
:cool1:
LOved it never an issue - if only every other place would take a lesson.

Just a quick suggestion for a kids who will only drink chocolate milk ( I had one until we found out she was allergic to milk ) I got a small tupperware cup and put some nesquick in it. That way I could always mix up some chocolate milk for her if we were out and they didn't have any. It saved a meltdown or two.

Just back from 10 days on the DDP and our DS 15 has multiple food alergies and every place we went sent the chef out to discuss our options with us at each meal.

For many we got the phone numbers when we made the ADRs and called before hand to make the accomodations a day or so before hand.

We even got phone calls before we left home from some of the places asking us what we needed since we had flagged the allergies on the ADR.

Even at POP where we stayed, they are very accomodating for everyone with any and all food allergies!!

That's a good idea. I ALWAYS buy those small bottles of chocolate milk every time I get groceries. Walmart sells a 6 pack. I also save the small bottles that you can buy at McDonald's. I just cut off the lable and pop em on the top rack in the dishwasher and they are great for refills!
