My son was diagnosed in November with a seasame seed and cashew allergy. Does anyone know how to find out about restaurants and food serveed at DL or DCA? We've never had to worry about this in past trips.

Thanks for anyone's help. Carla

I have a DD with food allergies (egg, peanut, almond) so I understand. I know I was given teh number of the head chef of DL. I called, left a message, and he personally called me back to discuss my DD's situation. I cannot remember how I got the number, so I would call the Disney Dining number and ask how to speak to someone about food allergies and ingredient lists.

You can also, in any food area, ask to speak to a Lead. That person will put you in contact with the chef who can answer any questions.

We had breakfast at the Minnie and Friends breakfast in DL and the chef made her toast (not on the menu) since she couldn't have any of the other offerings.

We had lunch at Ariel's Grotto and I found out that they do not make the food there. It is made at DLH and brought over, so they couldn't alter any recipes. They did, however, have ingredients lists and were able to find a safe food for her.

Disney is very accomodating and understanding about food allergies.

Have a great trip.

evilqueen71, I have a related question rather than anything helpful myself, so I hope you will indulge me. :)

My DH is on a very low fat diet for medical reasons. Someone advised that we call Disney Dining to find out what foods in the park he would be able to eat, or alternatively, what they could prepare for him to accomodate his diet.

camouseketeer, when you spoke with the chef at DD, was this the sort of thing you discussed? DH didn't want me to call, I think mainly because he didn't want to be tied to a set time and place for eating, and also he doesn't like a big fuss.

We'll be staying at the DLH in September, and likely eating the majority of our meals in the park or hotels, so I think it would be worth it to call and see what kind of help they could offer.

I always had my food allergy noted at the time I made a Priority Seating. When I arrived I told the waitress again and at seated places I was always informed what I couldn't have. At a buffet the chef came out and walked me down the line telling me which items were safe and which were not.

Yes, thanks for asking the question, and thanks for the helpful information. I will ask Disney Dining for help when I'm ready to make the PSs. :)

Alex2kMommy,

I talked to the head chef about what foods had eggs in them. He examined ingredients lists and let me know what my DD could and could not eat at counter service areas. I did not inquire about every food in every restaurant.

When you talk to DD try to find out if the food is prepared onsite (e.g. it's not in Ariel's Grotto, but it is at the Minnie and Friends breakfast). That will give you info about whether or not changes to ingredients can be made or whether or not your DH will just have to find foods from the existing menu that he can eat.

Good luck!

At the buffet where the chef walked me down the tables he offered to cook me ANYTHING I wanted. There was still plenty for me so I didn't have him prepare anything special. But, very nice that Disney was willing! :thumbsup2

camouseketeer, thank you so much. I'm surprised that they would have information on even the counter service restaurants, that's great! There are certain foods we'd like to ask about, so that will be very helpful. DH is reluctant to ask for any special help, but it will make me feel better if we try to stick as close to the usual dietary restrictions as possible, even if we are on vacation. It's hard to stick to the plan without knowing what's in things, and our inclination would probably be to NOT eat things that would have been fine had we known.

my3kids, this is really nice to know. I'm not sure DH would ask them to make anything special either, so I'm hoping there will be enough items to eat that it's not necessary. (We will definitely be doing a couple character meals, and most of them are buffet.)

We are still somewhat new to this dietary restriction, and still discovering fun things that are fine to have. Like brownies! And sherbet! :sunny:

I just wanted to let you all know that i called DD yesterday and they were so helpful. I made reservations for breakfast at Paradise Pier and GC and was given a number to Chef Bill (714) 239-5610 and i was told to leave my name and number and the dates we will be there and he will call back and let me know about what to eat and not to eat. Also Chef Chris takes care of Disneyland (714) 781-3569. As usual Disney was so helpful. Hope this helps all of you.

Carla, just to make sure I understand: Call Chef Chris about the restaurants in Disneyland, and call Chef Bill about the Disney hotel restaurants? Thanks for posting the numbers, I'm going to save them in my calendar! :)

That's the way I'm understanding it. I was given the numbers when I booked the priorty seatings for the PP and GCH. I left a message yesterday and have not received a call back yet. The one chef said he would not be in until today. Hopefully I will hear something and I will post when I do.

Just wanted to let everyone know I spoke to Chef Bill yesterday and he informed me that when you check into the resturant ask to see the chef on duty and they will walk you through the buffet line (we are going for the breakfasts at PP and GCH) and show you what is safe and what it not. He was no nice and said they take food allergies very serious at Disney and all the chefs have taken classes and are trained in food allergies. Disney is so wonderful. This makes me feel so safe. Just wanted to share this with you guys.

Because I have a tree nut allergy I completely understand your food concerns.
Do you carry an epi-pen and/or Benadryl in case of an accident? You should
talk to your doctor about it. Also, although our trip to DL isn't until Dec we
have been to DW and have found the chefs/restaurant staff to be really
understanding and helpful. I would reiterate several times your concerns and
if you are not comfortable with the way some food looks, take no chances,
it's not worth it. It's a drag but you have to be really careful. Sorry! Don't let it damper your trip though. gregdan

Yes we do carry and epi-pen but I don't ever want to have to use it. I'm quite positive about our trip. This is the first time we've traveled since finding out about my sons allergies. I know Disney will take good care of us.
